Found just what I needed! As the winter retail season is ending, the store was marking down items to make way for spring fashions. The prices were bargain basement costs for new clothing. An employee by the name of Penny searched the store for me and provided several options for me to select. Great customer service and good quality clothes!

This is the original JCPenney store, who knew? Really fun to run across this store traveling through rural Wyoming. The store is an operating JCPenney store with clothing and accessories for all ages, and has retained the original architectural details, woodwork, counters, display cases, dressing rooms/mirrors staircase, tin ceiling, light fixtures and other memorabilia. There's even the original pulley system they used to transport cash between the lower and upper level of the store. It's a mix of museum and modern day shopping. I purchased a nice casual blouse and took many photos. Definitely worth a visit!

Small but really nice store. Looks like it came out of the early 1900s. Lots of old machines on display. Very nice staff. We even found some good bargains. First ever JC Penney store. It is worth stopping in if you are anywhere close on your travels. There were some articles on saying that the store was going to be sold in 2020. Looks like it is still there. 🙂

The first J.C. Penny's in Kemmer Wyoming. A lot of history in this building. Still an ongoing business. Sales associates will give a tour of buildings and history lessons. Very knowledgeable. Great place to visit.

A very historical JC Penney store! This is the "Mother Store"...the first of the chain. The surrounding area is designated as the J. C. Penney Historic District, which was declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1978 for Penney's role in creating one of the first national department store chains. There are lots of interesting things to see inside the building, in addition to an actual working store. The staff are friendly and amazing. A must visit if you're in the area!

Nice bit of nostalgia if you or your parents ever shopped at a JC Penny store. Original store and JC Penny residence are located within one block of each other in town. Store is equipped with vintage counters, displays and changing rooms. They actually have a lot of bargains and a selection for women, men and kids. Staff is very friendly and informative.

We've been to Kremmerer before but haven't walked around. The history was charming. The JC Penny store is reminiscent of our hometown JCP store of day gone by. Prices and sales were great. Nelson's Furniture and Appliance is a super duper store as well.

Passed through by chance on the way to Yellowstone. All three of the female staff there were incredibly helpful & friendly. Unfortunately I only caught Sidney's name & not the other 2 women. Love seeing a piece of history still being utilized. Cute store with a really good women's clearance section by the way.

I absolutely LOVE that the JCP Mother store is still in business, and the history involved here is just wonderful! Stopping in and shopping here is truly a humbling experience. I also recommend seeing Mr. Penny's home (now a small museum)! It is located around the corner.

Very clean and well maintained for the original store. A lot to choose from if you are not tall. Seasonally correct with merchandise, some cute clothes and very nice and helpful staff.

This is the first J.C. Penney. It still functions as a store, but also is a museum. Worth visiting if in the area.

I shopped at the Kemmerer Store Moncay, October 10, 2022 and found the sales clerk, Penny to be a great help, she was a delight and knew the store's products well, I purchased two items and they were a good value.

Great clearance section! This is the JCPenney Mother Store! Ask where JCPenney lived and they'll direct you to his house. This store has plenty of antiques and treasures. Ask the teller how they used to make change. Great stop for awesome deals with a splash of history and nostalgia.

This is the very first JC Penney. Outside there’s a cool sign showing how long this store has been there. Inside is a regular JC Penney, though they only have clothes. There’s some interesting information about the history of the store. The staff inside are friendly too. Fun little stop to check out.

It's a nice store in Kemmerer for being the mother store but bigger stores have more variety it's nice to shop as a tourist in this JCPenney's and they have good clothes and you can usually find what you want just not a wide variety like I said not a big store but good clothes.

Very polite and helpful staff. The store is a great place to shop. It is attractive and well organized. But the people that work there are the best!Our Mother Store is very nice. An asset to our little Kemmerer community. Be sure to see when you come to Kemmerer WY.

Looks like they remodeled the store. I was there long ago and it was still old-fashioned and had that yesteryear ambience, which is why I went inside. You walked back in time when you entered the store. Sadly, JCPenney is done as a retailer. Hopefully the Mother Store can continue as a museum and landmark.

The original "Mother Store" of JCPenney. What a pleasant visit and shopping experience. The cashier provided some history and told us of the house a block away that was the home of JC Penney that has been restored and is now a historical site. We enjoyed the house tour provided by the host. Highly recommend!

The emploies are great! Very helpfull in finding the sizes and cloths you love! I tell all my friends to come to kemerrerer wyo. Specifically to come shopping there! This is a great place to shop! And also the original store in the United States!
