Despite cooler, wetter weather than expected in August, Micah and Gil put us on fish (lots of fish) and shared their expertise and positive energy to make sure we had a great experience and caught lots of those fish. A great trip in an amazingly beautiful place. I highly recommend this outfitter for a great Wind River fishing experience.

We had a super day on the water with Gil. My grandson Blake was only into his 3rd day fly fishing. Gil was terrific coaching Blake, and Blake scored the biggest cutty of the day: 19”. We caught a bunch of fish, several over 17”, and we had a great time. This was our second time out with WRFF, and I can’t say enough for the professionalism, kindness, and enthusiasm of all the staff.

Wonderful fishing experience in a super friendly, super cool western Wyoming town. Wind River Flyfitter set us up with an outstanding guide, Julian, who showed us some truly memorable places to wade fish for native cutthroats in the Wind River tributaries. Julian was very knowledgeable and just a great person to fish with; he had an excellent feel for providing the right level of help as a guide without having me feel like he was excessively "hovering" over me. I would highly recommend a guided trip with Julian to anyone planning to fish the Wind River drainage.

Wind River Flyfitters made our trip phenomenal! We stayed near Dubois for 2 weeks and did 4 all day hike-in trips with Bill and Gavin. They were amazing guides for our family—They helped my husband when he needed it but also let him fish independently while they helped me and our daughters fish—they were genuinely excited every time we hooked a fish and took real joy and pride as they watched us learn and progress over our time with them. They taught the girls about the hatches, different flies, and how to spot fish. We had the best time with them and feel like we have made friends for life! Eric and Asher were so welcoming in the shop and helped my husband with fishing tips for fishing in the area on his own. I cannot say enough good things about them! We are already planning trips for next summer.

These guys are the best fly shop around! This was me and my two friends' annual fishing/hiking trip. On our first fly fishing trip to Wyoming, we were enthusiastically welcomed by Micah and Gavin as we entered the fly shop to begin our guided trip. After a scenic drive to the headwaters of the East Fork, Gavin directed us to multiple fishing holes as we waded up the river and all caught multiple fish. We learned much from Gavin as we bombarded him with questions about fly selection and casting techniques. We even shared life lessons and advice amongst the group. On our way out, Gavin had to gently convince a stubborn cow to move off the trail. Everything about this guided trip was amazing. We all left with a renewed confidence and a greatly increased fly-fishing IQ. We highly recommend Wind River Flyfitter for your next guided trip! You won't be disappointed.

This is a top-notch outfit. Micah Furman & his guides are knowledgeable and friendly. They know the waters around Dubois and are fly fishing experts. Micah was terrific and extremely patient as a guide. His all-inclusive Golden Trout package was excellent. He takes care of his clients and he’s a true professional.

Can not say enough positive things about Wind River Flyfitter. The guides Julien and Gill are both exceptional and their passion for fly fishing and the outdoors is evident and contagious. Micah, one of the owners, goes above and beyond to make sure everything goes as well as it possibly could. Needless to say, the fishing was great and a great time was had by all. I must preface this review by admitting that I am not a spring chicken, now retired, but a fly fisher for 50+ years…. Bad casting habits, yep! Set in my ways, yep! When my wife suggested I hire a guide for our trip to Dubois, I wasn’t sure, I’d never used a guide before… I wasn’t convinced, so maybe…well, okay, yes.Gil arrived and met us at the 3 Spear Ranch restaurant, Gil is with the Wind River Flyfitter guide service suggested by the ranch, where we were staying. After coffee, we headed to the private trout lakes on the 3 Spear Ranch.Gil was super attentive, he brought flies he’d tied the previous night, based upon the day before’s rate of success. He suggested that I could use a few of my favourite rods… FYI, he has an uncanny ability to read the water well. ( yes, I’m jealous) Suggesting a variety of dries, nymphs, scuds etc. I caught more fish that morning, than in the past five years! I also learned to look at the water differently, with new eyes, and a newer understanding. Thanks Gil!So, armed with some new ”to me” personal rods, a 1950’s 7ft Orvis Battenkill cane 5wt rod, to a R.L Winston Air-2, Gil assured me the fishing experience of a lifetime. We caught 20+ fish, 6” fun yet scrappy ‘bows, to a few 19’’ submarines… the even bigger ones broke off! (Serious).Moral of the story, I thought I knew it all, 50+ years fishing, yet Gil helped me “unlearn” some bad casting habits, opened my eyes to being more proactive to different fly combinations, and new techniques. Humbling, yet I’m very grateful for his insight.If, like me, you’ve never tried a guide before, just do it!!! Gil’s tutelage pushed me to try new approaches, different ways of looking at the water, trying new flies, and we caught many fine fish. It was a morning equivalent to a “400” level fly fishing master class, well worth it. These memories will last a lifetime.Attached is one photo, we were honestly too busy to take any more! Highly recommend these guys! We cannot say enough about this organization. We fished with them last week after having a horrible experience fishing down in Jackson Hole. We went in to check on our reservation the day before and were greeted by Asher. He was friendly and professional, and gave us some info about the area and the guide we would have. We met the owners outside and they were also super welcoming and friendly. Go Noles! We wanted to be sure we had an experienced guide and they assured us we would. They did not lie! Gil was outstanding! Super friendly, down to earth, and equally as important, knowledgeable about the area, the terrain, the water, the flies to use. We could not have asked for a better guide. He put us onto so many fish we had to stop counting how many we caught. Plus tons that got away until I learned how to set the hook faster. He knows how to give helpful tips without being bossy. It was such a great experience.

If you are looking for a true fly fishing experience this is the place. Our Guide was personable and knowledgeable, but most importantly passionate about what he’s doing. This has been a dream to fly fish out here and wind river made it possible. The experience was worth it alone and all the fish we caught were just a bonus! Cant say enough good things about these guys. I've fished all over the world and I'd rate my guide and experience an 11 out of 10. Tough conditions with high water and wind but my guide Gil got me on the trout in no time. We went out and achieved despite it all! The scenery and fishing was top notch. Having never gone fly fishing before we were a challenge for any company. But Wind River Flyfitters offers free lessons and experienced, patient guides. We had a wonderful time in beautiful areas and I caught the most beautiful Cutthroat. I’m sure we could have kept fishing, but I really wanted to check one off of my bucket list… They did that for me.This company and their team are professional, courteous, experienced and genuinely incredibly nice. They remembered our names from the first time we met. And went above and beyond to make our experience sensational!I highly recommend this company and the Wind River cabin we stayed in. Our guide Mitchell was loaded with years of experience and even more patience. He put our six year old on lots of fish and lots of smiles, while also teaching mom and dad a few new tricks. I stopped in during a family vacation to get some info and flies to get away for a few hours. It ended up being one my my greatest days on the river I’ve ever had. I caught my biggest fish, and had an absolute blast. It was a refreshing change from all the size 22 stuff we do in Colorado. I would highly recommend Wind River Flyfittters.

This was our third year with Micha on the streams around Dubois. It seems to get better every year. Fly fishing is about more than just catching fish. Micha and his guides provide everything you would ever want for a Wyoming fly fishing adventure. Fantastic scenery, beautiful streams and pools, great guides who are patient and always provide new hints, tips and techniques. And we must not forget we catch fish. Large fish. Beautiful Yellowstone Cutthroats and others.Impossible to have a better fishing experience.

THIS IS GOING TO BE LONG, BUT WORTH THE READ. My husband and I had the pleasure of discovering and visiting Dubois, WY because of Micah at Wind River Flyfitter. I contacted several companies in a few different states. Micah was the only call back I received. Micah was personable, intuitive, a very good listener and a better communicator. We chose the Golden Trout Package. It is their all inclusive package. SO WORTH IT!!!!We went from September 21-24. It was so much fun.We stayed at Black Bear Inn, which is across the street from the Wind River Flyfitter and part of the package, I would have stayed there regardless. It is an older motel, but clean, warm and absolutely cozy, also, it literally backs up to a creek, exactly as Micah said, when I said I might want to grab a coffee, and fish in my pajamas right outside my room, because I could have if I had wanted to. We felt so welcomed and so well taken care of and I found myself smiling at the whimsical beauty of our room and the grounds every time we went to or from. The owner made it her mission to make sure we had everything we needed and could always be found with a smile and a kindness. The HUGE black bear sculpture is super fun.And while we didn’t need it, I’m pretty sure the Black Bear Inn is the only place in a pretty big radius that has a charging station for EVs.Micah and Julien had us suited up and practicing casting behind their shop and then in that creek before we had even unpacked. It was awesome.Micah was our personal guide for our entire trip, but we met all of the guides.Every single one of them was positive, friendly, knowledgeable, responsible and funny.Blue, Julien’s dog, was a special treat, I was missing my own black labs and he was there to accept all of my scratchies, lovies and baby talk like a true gentledog.Every day spent in Dubois was spectacular. Dubois is beautiful, the leaves were starting to turn, setting the hills glowing, picturesque, rich in history, with good people, amazing local artists, and plenty of dining experiences.Over the few days we were there, Micah led us to three of the fifty-five places fishing spots he knows of, each one more breathtaking than the last, he successfully and safely tracked a moose mother and her calf, (we got pics and video) we saw a bald eagle, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, he gave us the most interesting lessons in geography, altitude, meteorology, local history, he could identify animal tracks and on top of just being an absolutely most patient and trustworthy person in general, he is the Fish Whisperer with an eagle eye. We caught fish in the rain, the wind and when the clouds moved and the sun broke through, Micah literally watched the sun on the water and as he announced that the mayflies would be hatching….”NOW”…I kid you not, a flurry of freshly hatched mayflies rose off the water. It was magical.Also, it must be said, I am 55, female and a complete newbie to fly fishing, my husband is a little older and has experience, Micah challenged us, physically, but also made sure that we were comfortable. He was there to help us, mainly me, not only with learning how to cast, but EVERYTHING.I felt like a queen, he tied my flies, he carried my pole, he guided me over slippery rocks, he backpacked an extra jacket for me, just in case, he even made me special sandwiches without cheese on gluten free bread that I know he bought especially for me. (I have allergies)So ladies if you are on the fence about going fly fishing for the first time, THIS IS THE PLACE.You will have a blast, you will meet cool, interesting people, immerse yourself in nature, spend time in a small, clean, lovely artsy town with good food and get a 360 degree view of mountains and sky.Thank you, Micah, Asher and all the other guides, for making a new experience the best possible, in the most beautiful, peaceful place possible. Thank you for your kindness, generosity and for sharing your love and passion for fly fishing and Dubois with us. You all have given us the best memories.

We requested to target the biggest Cutthroat in the land, and they did not disappoint! Dino Cutts all day long! Perfect for all still levels. We had a couple first time fly fishermen and they were able to successfully catch fish after a couple short lessons. Free casting lessons the night before if you want some extra time. Highly recommended!

Epic trip. Did the 3-day all inclusive package and covered 40+ miles of distance with Micah. This area of WY is pristine wilderness and couldn’t ask for a better guide. Been fly fishing for 7 years and this trip never stopped with unreal views and some great native fish.

What a fantastic experience my wife and I had with Eric at Wind River Flyfitter on Sept 28th, 2020. Eric taught my wife how to cast the night before and showed her how to use these skills the next day on the stream. I got a chance to catch my first Yellowstone Cutthroat trout, including one of 17 inches! I have been fishing for many years and truly learned a lot from Eric. We both had a fantastic time and look forward to coming again!!!
