First visit and I found it to be worth the detour from my route. Devils Tower was much larger than it appears on TV or in photos. You can drive close to the tower without paying to go into the park but it may be the only visit I have to this site so I payed the $25 per car to drive in and get up close. Also you can go through the free visitors center with interpretive displays and a small gift shop. You can even stamp your passport with an official stamp. Free binoculars are in site to zoom in on the first National Monument. Look for the Buffalo and Longhorns in the field outside the park entrance.

Devils Tower National Monument is a beautiful location to visit in northeastern Wyoming. It was the first United States national monument. It was established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. In modern times it is best known for its appearance in the Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." It is the site chosen by the aliens to make their official contact with the earthlings and from which point Richard Dreyfuss departs with them to travel to the stars. The prairie dogs were amusing too!

Awesome attraction! It can be seen from miles away. A rock climbers paradise or as a tourist. Several nice trails to chose from. Moderate to strenuous . I took the Trail Loop which is a little over a mile and is paved. You will circle the base of the Tower and wasn't too much of a strenuous hike. There are several resting benches along the way. If you take your binoculars, you should be able to see people repelling down the side. Near the entry gate, there is a Prarie dog pasture just full of the the critters. The entry fee of $25 is paid when you leave. The NP Lifetime Pass is good here. I would recommend you arrive early and avoid the crowds. When I was leaving the park, around 12 pm there were cars lined up for approximately a mile get in.

Pleasantly surprised!! When you see it from a distance, the monument t is so tall that trees around it seem insignificant. It appears as a solitary thing you are going to see... however, there is so much more to see and appreciate!! Wild life, hiking trails, transitioning terrain, the history... all engaging and worth experiencing!! ♡Price for entry: $80Ticket type: Purchased an America the beautiful park pass at yellowstone, have access to all national parks and monuments.

I have been to all 48 contiguous states and haven't seen anything like this tower. Very amazing.. Beautiful landscape. We saw people rock climbing but this requires special registration. Nice hiking trails. Restrooms are very clean!

This is one of the most amazing National Parks we've ever seen. The size and shape of this Monument is off the chart. It's no wonder Steven Spielberg chose this site for his world know move Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Nice grounds, great place to see, visitors center was not open. Clean bathrooms. Be prepared to walk, take a jacket and umbrella. If you plan on eating nearby bring plenty of cash because there is very little around and they are over priced. With the visit, bring your own food. Plenty of wildlife on the premises. Military, disabled, and Veterans have free access thru the National Parks/Monuments passes. Ask at the gate for your free pass!! The National Park Service website will explain.

Great views of a natural wonder here in eastern Wyoming. The visitor center has the usual souvenirs and helpful park rangers. The concrete parking lots fill up early but there are unpacked parking areas next to them. Just be prepared for a walk.

The tower is awesome. We walked the loop around the tower. It was easy and we got to set it from every angle. The walking path was well laid out. The chemical toilet was overpowering. The visitors center was nice. You pay when you leave. Please note they do not accept cash.

We really enjoyed the view! Wow!We had a nice hike, and had decided on the shorter trail only because of the rain. We soaked up nature's beauty, and loved every minute :)

Devil's Tower felt like a sacred place. I'm not sure why I felt the Sacredness so strongly in some areas more than other areas. It's worth visiting even if you have no plans to climbing up it. I didn't climb it.The 1.3 mile Tower Trail is paved and an easy hike for most people I think.I was disappointed that I wasn't physically up to hiking the unpaved 2.9 mile Red Beds Trail nor the other three trails. Hopefully, if your reading this, you'll hike the other 4 trails and have a wonderfully memorable experience.

Even if you don't pay to get in to the rock, at least stop by the gift shop. And take some stunning photos while you're there.

probably the best place to start your visit to devils tower. has a small informative exhibit area where rangers are stationed to answer questions and help you plan out your visit. also you’ll find a small but well stocked gift shop with all the usual national parks souvenirs— post cards, ornaments, books, etc.only issue is there is NOT a ton of parking. we visited labor day weekend and showed up about 15 min before they opened and got two of the last parking spots. there are hiking trails that lead back up to the visitor center from other areas of the park but they are a significant distance (about a mile plus of walking)

Drove in went to the amazing Devil's tower that was awesome too. I didn't know it was the first National Monument. We enjoyed are stay there and walk of the view. You have to see it in person to feel what we felt. Words can't describe God's creation.

We arrived after the visitors center was closed so I can't rate that but there was another set of restrooms open an they were warm an clean an the soap an toilet paper was stocked. The tower itself was worth visiting. We did the tower loop trail an it was a paved 1.3 mile hike.

They have a beautiful store and what a landmark Devil's Tower is! That place is incredible and we highly recommend the 1.3 mile hike around the base of it. That's where I took all my photos below.

Great place to bring the family for a unique experience. You can walk the 1.3 mile trail at your own pace and see a lot of different views and wild life. There is camping available as well.

Stopped here on the way down to South Dakota back in July. This place was interesting and we arrived early in the morning around 9 am and it was already very crowded. The walk around the base was interesting and had quite a bit of information to read along the way. Most people blew right by the signage but it definitely adds to the experience.I took one star off for three major reasons. One this is a sacred location for many local Indigenous tribes and the name Devils Tower ought to be changed. The name comes from when white settlers originally arrived and saw Native spiritual ceremonies and practices and said it looks like they are worshipping the Devil and hence it was named Devils Tower. Many Indigenous tribes call this Bear Lodge or Bear Butte. Two, since this is a place of spiritual significance for many Native peoples, there are offerings and prayers tied around the base of Bear Lodge in the trees and other natural settings. You are not supposed to touch them or take pictures and there were a few relatively small signage’s that announced that at the beginning but we saw people take photos and touch them which was upsetting to see. This place wouldn’t have such significance if it weren’t for the Native Peoples finding it so important and it being a place of spiritual significance for them. Finally, it was crowded! I know that’s not super controllable but the visitors center and the gift shop were extremely small and super overcrowded. To even really look at anything in the gift shop you had to be in line and weave through there two aisles until you reached the counter to pay. We went early and I suggest you do too because I can’t even imagine how much more crowded it gets!We walked around the base counter clockwise because one of the signs on the way up said that’s how the local Lakota tribe walks around for reasons I honestly can’t remember now but we wanted to show respect and honor and that was how we felt we could.Change the name!
