You go through the tunnels in the mountains to get here which is cool. Parking is plentiful and there were free golf cart rides to the dam/visitor center from the parking lot and back. Though it's not terribly far it was nice on a hot day not to walk. Tips are appreciated though not expected. The views of the dam and surrounding areas are spectacular. And the visitor center is very neat with lots of information and videos about the dam and surrounding area, history and such. Also a cute gift shop with lots of unique items. And they have a smooshed penny machine which I love. Very friendly people working/ volunteering. Worth a stop.

As a first-time visitor to the Buffalo Bill Dam and Visitor Center in Cody, Wyoming, I was enthralled by the impressive engineering and captivating history behind this remarkable structure. Spending many hours exploring the facility, I found myself immersed in a world of technical marvels and educational wonders. The Buffalo Bill Dam stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering prowess. Its massive concrete arch structure spans the Shoshone River, harnessing its immense power for irrigation and hydroelectricity. The precision and attention to detail in its construction were evident, showcasing the engineering excellence of its time.Inside the Visitor Center, a wealth of information awaited me. Exhibits delved into the intricate mechanisms of dam operation, hydraulic systems, and the vital role the dam played in transforming the region. Detailed diagrams, models, and interactive displays provided a deep understanding of the engineering principles at play.I was particularly captivated by the historical narratives that unfolded. Learning about the challenges faced during construction, the perseverance of the workers, and the impact of the dam on the local community added a layer of significance to my visit. The panoramic views from the dam were awe-inspiring. The vast reservoir, formed by the dam's construction, stretched before me, glistening in the sunlight. It was a testament to the harmonious integration of human ingenuity with the natural landscape. The Buffalo Bill Dam and Visitor Center offers a captivating blend of technical excellence, historical significance, and natural beauty. It provides a window into the past while showcasing the enduring legacy of visionary engineering. My visit left me with a deep appreciation for the immense achievements of those involved and a renewed wonder for the intersection of human innovation and nature's power.

So glad I live in Cody and get to visit here often. It really is a nice “don’t miss it” place. Be sure to watch the short video about the building of the dam The dam is very full and not much water is being let out to the shoshone river today.

Excellent place! They will come to the parking area and we pick you up in a golf cart and take you to the dam and education center or you can walk on the pavement to the areas. When you are ready to return to the car, you can walk back or ride back in agolf cart. Easy stop for pressed pennies or to get your passport canceled. Very knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Small book store to shop if you would like. You can walk across the dam and get photos of either side. This is a quick 1-2 hour stop to give you a break on the road from Cody, Wyoming heading into the eastern entrance to Yellowstone.

The Buffalo Bill dam is only a short ten minute drive from Cody and is one HECK of a view. Not only are the views of the reservoir of the damn itself just gorgeous, but the sense of vertigo you get from that narrow steep drop on the back side of the dam is half terrifying, in a good way! What a marvel of engineering done decades and decades and decades ago! The visitors center is chock full of great information and fascinating exhibits. From a chief engineer with nothing more than a high school education to the original vision by Buffalo Bill to harness the power of the river, definitely worth a stop!

Interesting historic site that can swiftly be visited on the way from Yellowstone to Cody.Parking lot is a little stretch away from the visitor center. The visitor can opt for walking a few feet or be transported by golf carts. There is no entrance fee. Clean restrooms are available there. In the inside one can learn something about the history of the dam, that enabled a productive agriculture in this arid landscape around 1900. Also, information is available of the wildlife in the region and about dinosaurs having lived there millions of years back. Of course, the dam itself can also be observed, but watch out for your hat, because it's pretty windy on top of the wall.

Gorgeous views!! The photos say more than I could share here! We truly enjoyed this area and just marveled at its beauty! There is a short walk to the visitor center from the parking lot but there are golf cart shuttles (for tips). The area is so picturesque. The visitor center has a great film that shares the history and formation of the dam...great film. We loved the views here.

Everyone rushes to get to Yellowstone but it's worth a quick stop to see the dam and visitors center. Volunteers in golf carts drive you from the parking lot to the center. Interesting to see how Buffalo Bill Cody and his cronies contributed to irrigating miles and miles of land downstream.

Not only was the dam impressive, there was a wonderful lady who took us from the parking lot to the visitor center by buggy. It was a fun ride and we were so grateful! The video inside the visitor center (on your right) was really worth watching. What a struggle building this dam!!

Friendly staff a great view (be sure to crawl through the “restricted access gate” to see the damn from below- as “okayed and suggested” by the visitors center staff)

We were surprised to find as much historical material here about the dam as there is. They also have a gift shop with a stamp for the national park passports. And of course the views are breathtaking - the roar of the dam is near defeating, but there is quite the serenity to it. It is too bad there isn't a place to sit and relax outside or have a picnic lunch. Still very worth the visit!

We very much enjoyed our time visiting the Dam, we came back up here after finishing the Trolley tour. Stay to watch the short video, and look around at the fossils and in the gift shop, lots of great stuff to see. We appreciated the fun golf cart ride to and from the parking lot and the driver was a hoot!

Being from this area, I have such fond memories of field trips to the Buffalo Bill Dam. So visiting from Colorado, I had to take our daughter. Very, very windy, but still so beautiful and enjoyable. The indoor visitor center is interesting to learn more about agriculture in the area with a lot of amazing historic photos. Easy drive from Cody and on your way to Yellowstone, I’d definitely recommend a quick stop.

Really neat little tourist stop. Good for a quick visit. Lots of information and and neat video to watch about the dam. Parking lot is far away but there is a golf cart that makes trips back and forth picking tourists up. Interesting and worth the time for sure!

This is a dam neat place to visit 😉 very beautiful scenery and a nice visitor center with lots of info and historical artifacts. Its a little bit of a walk to get from the parking area over to the dam / visitor center but there is stand with a button you can push over by the parking area you can push and one of the friendly staff will drive over with a golf cart and pick you up.

Beautiful place to visit. There are two very friendly employees that can give you a ride up to the visitor center, and back too if you like. Had stopped on the way to Yellowstone, well worth it. Breezy to all hell, but still awesome

This was our first dam experience. Just wow! The history and details inside the visitors center is great. We happen to snap our pic on the bridge when the wind gusts picked up. Scary feeling but pretty cool. Had to hold on to my cell with a death grip as it felt like I was going to lose it with the wind gusts. Highly recommend. Can't wait to check out the Hoover Dam next week.

I think it would be 5 star for what little we could see but it was closed for the season when we arrived.

Much like the other tourist destinations in northwest Wyoming, this visitor center is clean and staffed by some of the most polite personnel that I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. A cart drives back and forth from the parking lot to the visitor center every 2 to 3 minutes for folks who can't make the short walk. There is a 15 minute video that details the history of the dam and a gift shop within. The view is impressive if a little intimidating.
