It was my first time flying fishing and I had Ryan McMullen as my guide for 3 days. It was more than amazing. Ryan’s helpful and expert instruction throughout our float made the experience more than enjoyable. We brought close to 30 fish to the boat (leaving another 30 swimming). Ryan was supportive and constantly optimistic which created a fun atmosphere. Thinking about another trip in October. I’m hooked (pun intended). I would highly recommend booking a trip out of the Reef Fly Shop. Best, Joe

Without a doubt beat place to fish with the BEST guides in Wyoming! And the best place to stay in the Alcova area. Very first time my wife and I ever Fly fished, was taken out with Jalen the first day. He taught us how to fly fish. He was patient, great instructor and we caught some great fish! Next day went with Dragon, went to the Miracle Mile, wow, another great day of fishing!! Would HIGHLY recommend!!! Thanks guys!! Vicky was awesome too!!

Vicki at the fly shop made our fishing trip over Thanksgiving week amazing. We stayed a few nights in one of the cottages, it was super tidy and cozy when we arrived. We called ahead to ask for the hot flies and nesasary accessories. She had our flies and supplies waiting on the table when we got there so we could fish right away.We had an amazing time with family and friends, staying warm after a day on the water, instead of trout bumming it in November, felt like we were spoiled.Thanks to Vicki for all the advice and logistical support. Best shop dog too, I'd never met a dog that could deliver cold snacks across a river before.Quite a memorable and successful fishing trip. We'll be back for sure!!

The cottages are very well furnished and easy to use if you are going with a guide or fishing on your own. We got guided by Mason and Eric who were very friendly and knowledgeable. They put us on fish effectively and let us do more than nymphing. Overall a great trip!

Booked a fishing trip with the Reef/North Platte Lodge for two days. If I could give ten stars I would. The fishing was exceptional, the service and friendliness of all the staff was just terrific! However, what made this two-day float all the more amazing was our guide, Mason. I have had several fishing guides over the years but Mason is by far the best. He works so hard to please his customers. He's always working to find the right depth, speed, and helping you become a better fisherman. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience with the Reef shop and staff. That's why they truly are the best on the river!

Booked two full days with these guys and stayed in their cabins. Our guide was Josh Stevens and he was great. It seemed like he knew every crack, dropoff and shelf in the river. Our crew probably put 70 fish in the boat and missed at least that many. It was on fire thanks to Josh. We asked other guests how they did and the numbers weren't even close to ours. The whole vibe of the shop, the cabins, river, and the bar right across the street is just cool.

My buddy and I had a great experience staying here! Fly shop staff were super friendly and helpful, particularly a young guy named Clark who is just starting out in the guide game. Also, the shop dog Boots was a delight. Our cabin was clean, the beds were comfortable, the AC worked great. Just overall a very enjoyable experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for a great place to relax after a hard day fishing

We fish with Grey Reef every year and have never been disappointed. This year I fished with Josh Stevens for 4 days and had a great time. Josh is a knowledgeable guide who not only knows the river but knows fly fishing as well we caught browns, rainbows and cutbows. All between 18" and 22". I've been fly fishing for 60 years and Josh even was able to help me improve my casting as well as a couple of tips to help my presentation.We stay at the cottages near the shop and they were good but could use a bit of maintenance. I understand that trying to keep the cottages well stocked is difficult with all the use they see but that's something the cleaners need to do. The cottages are clean and the beds are comfortable so now issues there.We'll return as long as 4 old guys can. Great guides and a fantastic fishery.

Did 2 day trip here in October a couple years ago. Great guides. Managed to get us on a ton of rainbow trout before a snowstorm blew through. Nice cabins. Would come here again if I'm back in WY.

I've fished with this outfitter a few times now and will definitely be coming back. We fished with Josh this spring and he was a great guide. He put us on a ton of fish and was a great guy to spend a couple days with on the water. I would definitely recommend using this company if you're heading to the North Platte.

Great customer service! The fly shop is well stocked and the staff is very helpful. Drifted the Reef with Adam and had a great time. Stayed at the campground and talked with Matt, Trevor and Adam, what a great time! First rate guides and staff, will be back next year!Stayed again this year. Had a great time again, the shop and the staff are first class. They gave all the info for fishing the Reef and Fremont Canyon and helped us with the fly selections. Drifted the Reef with Jack as our guide, got us into fish even with less than stellar conditions. Jack was excellent, helping us with our casting etc. Another fantastic trip on the Reef!!!!!

My sons and I went to fish the North Platte today and we were short some equipment and flys. We stopped by The Reef fly shop and were greeted like family. They had everything we needed and provided wonderful customer service. The large shops in the cities could learn a lot about customer service from these guys!! Well done!

Great experience. Our group stayed for several days and can't wait to go back. Everyone at the shop went out of there way to make sure we had what we needed including fishing info. Had a great time meeting and getting to know them. A few suggestions from the guys working helped big time. It was obvious they spend a lot of time fishing the area. The cabins were extremely nice, clean, and staff was accommodating. Some of the better fly shop gear as well. The Reef Shop location is fantastic as well, couldn't have been any easier to find and then to get on and off the water each day. Looking forward to saying and fishing again soon.

My son and I had an amazing experience. Lots of Rainbows 15 to 20 inches. Even landed a cutthroat. Josh did an awesome job as our guide. My son and I are novice Fly fisherman, but Josh made us even look good. Well, he made us feel good about our fishing anyway and made us successful! He was very attentive and always a yes whenever we needed something. I would highly recommend this trip and Josh as well!

Doing a guided float trip has been on the bucket list for years, especially a trip on the North Platte. The opportunity finally came around when a group of my close friends booked a 1/2 day float. I was fortunate enough to get a spot with guide Josh Stevens. Josh was able to quickly get us adjusted to making long drifts, proper hook sets, and getting us on fish. We had an incredible experience and for my first float trip the bar was set high! We shared some great laughs and made a hand full of lifetime memories. Can't wait for the next float trip!!!!

I first visited the North Platte in January 2014 for a one day float. I had such a great experience with the shop and my guide (Lee) that I brought my annual fly fishing guys getaway back in August 2014 and again in August 2015. Our guides Lee and Adam did a fantastic job with our group of four during our two days on the North Platte. I definitely recommend the shop, the cottages, and the guide service. My brothers and I brought my father here for his 70th birthday. We stayed for two nights in the really nice cottages behind the shop and got a float trip in for one day. Trevor, Huff, and Patrick were our guides on the river that day and they took 6 beginner fisherman and had them catching beautiful rainbow trout within minutes. They made everything easy and fun. My hats off to them! I strongly recommend The Reef Fly Shop/North Platte Lodge for some of the best fly fishing in North America.

A few weeks ago I rented a float through the The Reef Fly Shop. Eric, the manager, went above and beyond. After a full day of working, he took the time to practice casting with me for a good thirty minutes next to the shop. I've been fly fishing for 5+ years, and had multiple guides/lessons. This was by far the most helpful casting lesson I've ever experienced. Highly recommend The Reef Fly Shop/their guides/rentals!

Really great day with Josh on a float trip - he was knowledgeable, fun and easy to get along with. We had a fisherman with us that it was his first time and he still can't stop talking about all the fish Josh got us on. Afterwards, the guys at the shop showed us some local areas and which flies to use. Would highly recommend the shop and Josh to anyone stopping through this area!

Great place for picking up bobbers and barbed perdigons. Thier minnow and worm selection was weak but I bought some imitation worm flies made out of rubber... I'm pretty sure Berkley or Gary yamakatishito tied them.

First off, y'all rock. My buddies and I were out there a couple years ago and y'all were extremely helpful in putting us on some awesome fish.These guys really know their stuff and are extremely helpful. We were just going to fish the reef until one of the shop employees told us about Fremont Canyon. Most fun I have ever had fishing! We're hoping to get a November trip this year!!

My experience at The Reef Fly Shop was horrible. I was meeting a group of fisherman to fish gray reef for the weekend. We stopped at the shop at 230 to check into the cabin and the so called "Shop manager" was a real jerk. He would not allow us to drop our stuff off until 3 pm sharp even though the cabin was ready and unlocked. He acted like we were bothering him and we were the only people in the shop, he even went as far as to tell us that Streamer fishing was on fire. When we met up with the other 8 people for the evening float they said they had stopped in and the same person told them that streamers were not working. The next day we floated down the river and pulled over on a piece of public land to wait for the other boats, one of the guides from the shop apparently didn't like that since he was anchored in the middle of the river. He literally took the time to rig up a rod and proceeded to snap it over our heads and then yell at us in front of his clients before leaving. One good thing was the cabins were super nice, even though they make you sign a page and a half sheet listing several things that you will be charged a $50 fee for. It makes you not want to touch anything. The staff (That we met) is obviously of low integrity, they lie, will barely say a word to you and have a habit of yelling at people. It is a shame, because of these individuals I can only imagine how much revenue the owners are losing. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE. There are several other places and they are all equally as nice to stay at.

I’ve been stewing on this for a few weeks. My husband (who won’t say anything as he’s far too nice) went on a guided trip a few weeks ago and came home very unsatisfied. His guide (a woman, he believes her name is Breezy but is unsure) was very unprofessional. He didn’t appreciate (nor do I) the inappropriate flirting while he was trying to enjoy the beautiful Wyoming weather on his one day off. Not only was it inappropriate, he said she changed her entire demeanor when he turned her advances down, letting her know he was married. Basically making snotty comments about his wife, and then giving him the silent treatment. Any other profession, may not be okay, but at least it’s not a profession where you are quite literally guided. We won’t recommend to anyone.
