I get people in the reviews say a lot of horrible things about this place and the only thing that stood out was the smell. Yes it’s a small area with various different types of animals and reptiles but the lady there does the best she can and is always nice and it’s the closest place to get food for my reptiles. I love the knowledge I have learned coming here about my reptiles that has helped me with my dragon and the owner does her best to keep it clean with the help of others as they can. She cares a great deal for her shop. Instead of people complaining maybe offer to help her, kindness goes a long way. I’m glad this little shop is there for my reptiles needs. And ps it’s not as messy as people claim it to be and with parrots and birds and bunny’s they will throw paper out of their cages. So instead of being mean and assuming things, kindly ask before just saying something mean, ya might learn something new!

We had both of our dogs groomed there, one on 3/15/24 and the other on 3/19/24. I've never been so happy with how my pups looked after a groom. I've been searching for a groomer for a long time (we've been dealing with PetCo). We're so happy to have finally found a fantastic groomer, in Rapids! We will be back without a doubt!

Me and my daughter went in while my girls were getting their nails done next door. I was absolutely amazed how well the animals are taking care of in there. They all have real nice habitats. The owner is super friendly, she was very nice to us while we were looking around. We fell in love with the white bird that came walking up to us and climbed right up to my daughters shoulder. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!

Have had animals especially reptiles my whole life I recently jus ETS out of the army and moved up here and have been looking for a good pet store to go to the name brand ones don't always get there animals from breeders but from farms where animals are mass produced. So when I found an individual owned pet store that sold live feeder mice I was excited. When I went in there I was met with such a good experience the owner is very knowledgeable about all her animals and even helped me to start establishing trust with my adult female veiled I haven't had long animals are good husbandry and healthy. These are the pet stores people should turn to when looking for pets or advice. People were saying it smells well that's normal there are a bunch of animals and when your taking good care of lots of animals between making sure all their needs are met and socializing last thing you care about is making sure it smells like roses. But anyway I had a very good experience the owner and workers I have met are awesome, cool unique animals that are well taken care of. I cannot compliment this place enough plus the fact it's veteran owned jus adds to the respect definitely will be going here for all my pets needs. Thank you again for a great experience. BTW the plastic cup trick is working

I highly recommend Colleen as a groomer. Our Yorkie mix received an excellent haircut and came back calm and smelling good!

I went in to get my beardie a light bulb and chatted with the nice ladies at the front desk about the struggles Im having for my American Staffy with clipping her nails. They reassured me everything was going to be okay and got me in the SAME DAY due to a cancelation!! For the first time ever my dog Amelia had a good experience with a groomer. The lady treated my dog like it was her own. Warmed my heart. I left with tears in my eyes of joy that my girl finally got her nails done and she was WAGGING her tail. Thank you Aquarium Pet Shop and Grooming we can't wait to come back! I'll definitely be telling my friends about you guys.

Maybe I was one only the lucky ones that came to the store. Was very shocked after reading some of the other more negative reviews. I came to the store this past March in search of a chameleon. Also took a gander around the whole shop and all the animals looked fairly happy. The person working was very helpful and talked with me for well over a half hour on care and the well being of the chameleon I was inquiring about. There was dust on some of the higher up stuff but I fairly expect that with tending to all the animals needs as well as each person that comes into the store. I've had my chameleon for over 6 months, she is healthy and very happy!!

We took our two pups to see Colleen to be groomed. Colleen was very kind, efficient and did an excellent job getting our dogs bathed, trimmed and looking great! She took the time to explain what was done during thier visit. I will 100% be back with our dogs to be groomed.Thank you!

Our little Poppy is not the easiest to groom and this,was our first time at the Aquarium. Colleen did a fantastic job. Best Poppy has ever been groomed.

Colleen is an excellent groomer and I would take my dog to her again to be groomed! She was very patient with my nervous pup and did a great job. He looks fantastic! He has always hated getting his nails clipped but she got the job done with no issues. She definitely has a way with animals! Thank you for being so gentle with him.

By all the smaller rodents, this is what the floor looked like everywhere. These poor guinea pigs are in such a small place together and don’t even have a hut or toys. Their food bowl is up high so they have to stand on their legs to eat, which isn’t good for them since they can become paralyzed this way.(they have very sensitive backs which is also why you can’t have them on wheels or in plastic balls, instead they get floor time or can even run around grazing grass) they also need a bigger space, I understand it’s a pet store but even other stores have more space for a baby guinea pig, plus their cage size is more for a single hamster. These are also older guinea pigs (at least a year old), babies aren’t this big. Hopefully these guys will have a way better place to live soon.

We love this store! We stop in occasionally to see Chompers the alligator and were very sad to see he was not allowed in the store any longer. Please bring him back!! Not only is he cool to look at, but he is also a great educational opportunity for my kids and grandchildren. He hasn't done anything wrong to deserve this. BRING BACK CHOMPERS!!Also, all of you saying the owner is rude are completely off base. We have never had any issues and have been going there for years. Support your local small business owners and maybe leave your attitude in the car. Shop owners are people with feelings too!

I buy 4 dozen crickets there once a week or so for years. Zero issues and the crickets stay alive until the geckos get them all. I have never seen a mess there. I have always been treated well. I think you get what you give.

Had my guppies for 3 years I bought 6 more guppies from this place and everything died of disease liver bearer disease I k ow it wasn't my tank or my fish and it started happening when I brought the fish home from this pet store .....this place has lost my business forever please don't buy live fish from her she can't keep them alive and everything dies and it will kill off your entire tank .......I lost over 90 guppies because of this places lack of care and cleanliness so sad so very sad ....I would give less than a star if I could .......I am very pissed about this I had rare guppies in my tank and she won't do a damn thing about it

I’ve been inside The Pet Shop many times over the last 20+ years. Most of the time it was for a new fish or an obscure pet item. I’ve recently had two experience here that have left me feeling amazing and want to review.First, I’m starting my career as a 5/6 grade science teacher. I very much want a classroom pet. One of the owner’s (pretty sure it was Deb) spent over a half hour with me talking about different animals that would make great class pets. I got to meet many animals and am excited to move forward with the process soon.Second. Their current groomer - as of 7/18/2023 - is fantastic. My husky mix girl came away looking and feeling absolutely gorgeous. I had her do a full groom with a flea bath, de-shed, nails, foot pads, peri-area. It was worth every single penny.Super pleased! Will definitely go back to this groomer. Will always support this shop.

Went in there for the first time today hoping to see chompers, I was sad to hear that the city had taken the alligator away. However the store was very nice, the staff was kind, and my mom, nephew and I had a good time while we were there, hopefully chompers is brought back soon.

This place was great! I took my dog in for his nails. I loved to see all the animals they had and how well cared for they are! For a small store, they are impressive! The groomers were extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. I will be back a million times.Second visit just as impressed <3 as a former petco employee... this place cares for the animals so much better and the animals are visibly bred well and healthier than petco!

Owner is very unprofessional. If someone is unhappy about something instead of fixing it, he gets all defensive. People do reviews so you know what to fix to make people wanna come to your store. When you give people “WHATEVER” as replies to people who are upset that’s not very professional at all. I also suggest being more kind to your customers when they come in cause you are rude to people who walk in to your store. I don’t care if they were rude to you first, but as a store owner I don’t think being rude back is very professional on your part.

UNPROFESSIONAL.. lack of information available on puppies available.. unable to see puppies .buy or no looking at what's available. Dirty and everyone knows that you are able to control what reviews get posted lol because fat chance in Any hell u are ravings great reviews with how you treated me like a broke unwanted waste of your time. Shop was definitely mom and pop style, owner was there, I thought it had a funky odor (which I figured out was just reptile odor) but it was very clean. Cockatiels were NOT tamed, or very friendly, and that was why we went. I took a chance taking one out of the and I got a good bite from it. My lady really wanted one, was to be her bird's companion, and my first bird. My lady won't purchase a bird without the ability to handle it, so I took a shot. Otherwise all the animals were well cared for and not too badly priced! May go back again, but for a different sort of critter!!

So very grateful we found this shop! My neighbor recently moved here from down south and a cute little lizard hitched a ride on one of her plants. My daughter took in the lizard but we had no idea what to do for it! We came in to get a few things to care for it and ended up with a fabulous experience. My daughter is on the autism spectrum and has adhd. The wonderful lady there was patient and took the time to answer all her questions and explained so many things! It really turned into the most amazing experience and we will be going back for all our pet needs in the future!

I've lived in Rapids 2 years and always meant to stop in the shop. But Petco was more convenient for shopping days. Well one day my bf and I did stop. We now have gotten 2 tarantulas, a ball python, and literally the best meal and wax worms for feeding. The owner is so sweet and I enjoy her personality. We found one cup of worms that had some already dead and she on her own took them out and replaced them. That's how you keep customers coming back. I also love the choices of product and variety of pet friends. I go back every week now. No pet shop is ever going to be perfect but the animals are happy and cared for. That's the main point. Great small business, I do recommend...

Really cool place, staff is really nice and seem to care about the animals. I do think there are too many animals in that little store and that there are too many pet cage.. and that they shouldn’t be selling exotic reptiles but that’s my own believe on exotics. They have hairless rats and I’m in love. The animals do look well fed and clean but cramped. Wish they had more pet supplies but mainly everything they have is a reptile bird or rodent so that’s pretty much the only supplies they have. Prices seem fine too so I’d stop in if you want some cool things to look at!

I went in to buy food for my chameleon and most of the crickets I bought died by the next morning, the wax and meal worms were also mostly dead. I went in there out of convenience since I live in town but they were rude to me, they would not sell me the food I asked for. I know what the recommended food for my cham and when I told them you are supposed to feed a certain way the owner said " that's what they say". If you are looking to buy any reptiles from them I would NOT recommend it. All of their animals are not being taken care of. Also everything in the store is WAY over priced. If you Want to get a reptile go to Reptile Rapture in Monona wi they are half the cost of this dump and well taken care of. I will gladly drive the 30 minutes to get my crickets from Petco than spend any money in this shop. If you care about animals DO NOTDO business with a place that cares only about making a quick buck.

Stopped in to take a look around a few months ago (Nov/Dec of last year?). There was a good selection of items however, as others here have expressed, the store itself when I visited was very much a mess and smelled of foul odors. My focus was on fish that day and many of the tanks were downright disgusting.It looks like this place has a number of satisfied customers - but for potential new customers, what I saw was a turn off and unfortunately I will continue to drive to Point for my needs.I'll stop back in this summer and if conditions have improved I will update this review - however it seems others have brought this issue up in their reviews and they are met with defensive replies.
