Stopped in for a late lunch and a break from driving coming back from Platteville. I had the "Blue Plate" special, roast beef sandwich and potatoes and gravy and it was outstanding! First of all the roast beef was real not packaged roast beef like I've seen at other restaurants. The potatoes and gravy were very tasty, obviously all home made. My wife had the BLT roll up with sweet potato fries and she loved it. We were too full for pie but the lemon meringue that I saw at the next table looked fabulous. I strongly recommend this most excellent cafe!

This is a great MA and PA Cafe! We had breakfast and had to have fabulous pie to go as we were to full. We always seek local cafes as we do not eat at any fast food places.

The only reason this restaurant is getting two stars is because the food was decent. The waitress we had was by far one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had. She didn’t ask if we wanted anything to drink with our meals, she didn’t bring us silverware, and she forgot part of both of our meals. The fryers were down when we went, which isn’t their fault, but the waitress was completely unwilling to allow us to substitute anything for French fries other than mashed potatoes or a baked potato. But the table across the room was able to substitute American fries, hash browns, or a baked/mashed potato. The service with this particular waitress was so bad that another table of people walked out before even getting their food. I wish we didn’t spend our money here, and we would have gone somewhere we knew we could have gotten at least decent service.

This is a very clean and friendly family style restaurant with a Norwegian flavor. On Sundays a large tow behind smoker is parked in front of the restaurant and magic happens. My wife had lunch there yesterday, she having a pulled pork sandwich and I had the BBQ ribs. They were excellent. A side of hash browns was perfectly done, but a side of sliced carrots were a bit over done. The soup and salad bar, included in the lunch, was fresh and had lots of variety. We didn't see the regular menu, but all the specials on the Sunday menu will keep us returning. Service was good and prices were very reasonable.

I am a local and the food has been good until the last 2 times I 'very been there with my family. All I could taste was the oil things were fried in and the food was cold like it had been sitting a while. Customers that came in long after us were served their food before us. If we had not asked for a refill on our coffee our waitress would not have given us one. The waitress that waited on us really needs to be more personable with the customers, at least wait on people with a smile instead of making sure we knew she was stressed out. I will never eat there again.

Our food was cold our server was just as cold as the food we got there at 1030am and waited over an hr for our food while people who walked in after us had their food before we did. Then when we let the server know our food was cold did offer to heat it up it would have ruined it even more when we went to pay the bill wasn't asked how our food was or anything. I don't think they cared. Will never come back here again for guest that came 650 miles to visit this was a total disappointment other establishments will get my business. I do.t recommend

Stopped for breakfast this morning. Ordered from the menu a few items from the Breakfast Specialities portion. Under the title of this section of the menu the following is stated: "Substitute pancakes for $2 instead of the muffin/toast."To us, this signifies the muffin or toast come with the items we ordered so the pancake side my husband added to his order should have been $2 and my muffin side (which was burnt to a crisp and unedible by me) should have been no charge. Because I was under the impression it was a no charge side option, I didn't complain about the quality.Buyers beware: This is not the case. Apparently, there are only 2 items under the Breakfast Specialties (not clearly labeled) that this applies to! When I asked the server about this. He showed me the two items. When I further explained that this is completly confusing (a bait and switch) he didn't care. I told him my muffin was burnt and unedible, he took off the $1.29 for that, but not the $4.99 that we were charged for the pancake side that is advertised as $2. He didn't care that their menu stated otherwise like all other menus at other establishments. When he was displeased with my tip, he didn't even say thank you when taking my receipt and walked away without a word.We will not return and will not recommend this establishment. I'd leave a zero star review if it were possible. We alerted the owner of the establishment and received a generic, unconcerned reply.

I always love the food here. Blaine is an amazing owner. He makes sure you get quality service and quality meals. The beautiful changes the family has made to the restaurant I have told to Blaine in person on several occasions. He took me down the hall to show how much Borgens had changed throughout the years. Great place to enjoy breakfast or lunch! The food is great. The staff is friendly. The Norwegian - Scandinavian decor and heritage are a delight! Take in the community offerings on your visit. Save room for pie!!

I ordered off senior menu & it didn't disappoint. Meatballs,mashed potatoes & gravy green beans & coconut cream pie. I would have liked more cream filling & less meringue for my slice of pie. Waitress Bryn was top notch. Thank you for being open during pandemic.

Had the roast beef blue plate. It was amazing. Everything homemade and delicious. Then had lemon meringue pie. The meringue had to be inches high. Service great...friendly, professional, neatly dressed. Clean restaurant. Hand sanitizer on each table. Tables disinfected between use. Overall rating 10 plus but only able to give 5.

We had the shrimp, walleye, and the salmon dinners which were more than what was expected with not knowing the restaurant and quality of food. You will be surprised and delighted by your meal and in addition you get to enjoy a fresh salad. There is also soup with the salad bar, however I did not indulge so can't comment. Good meal, great job Borgens.

Very good food. My husband & I both had the meatballs, very good choice. Good lefse came with the meal. We ordered onion rings for appetizer, they were excellent and so was the chicken wild rice soup.

The eggs benedict were amazing!!! My fiance ordered the ham and cheese omelette, which had fluffy eggs and nicely melted cheese. Sadly was too full to enjoy some pie, but I'll definitely have to return to get a taste!

We were seated and given 1 menu only. When we asked for another one our server said, "Oh, you need another one?", as if it was a strange request for us both to expect our own menu. Place was clean. Food was okay, but nothing special. We wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

We had Borgens cater our wedding and that was the best decision we have ever made! I have ate at Borgens many times and always loved their food. When searching for a caterer, Borgens was always at the top of our list. Their prices were amazing and great to work with. Growing up with Norwegian families, we were so excited to have lefse at our wedding to go with the meatballs, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Everyone raved for weeks after about the honey glazed chicken. We even got to pick up our leftovers the next morning, which was a huge plus because I did not want all the extra food to go to waste and we divided it up among our families.

Very much enjoy going to Borgens. Good food and a nice clean and friendly place. Recently we ordered two large cheese and meat platters and three breakfast quiches for a late night snack at a wedding reception and the morning brunch. HUGE amount of food for very reasonable price. Very nicely presented. The quiches were cut and warm. We served them immediately and they were a big hit. Very tasty and a great way to feed a crowd. Very happy with everything!

Worst French toast ever...if the crust of bread is what they consider an acceptable plate of food they should embarrassed. My husband ordered a short stack of pancakes and when they arrived with the bread crust for French toast...the pancakes had been made quite awhile before they were brought out to our table. The butter provided to us didn't melt between the pancakes when applied because pancakes were cold. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I can only hope the owners don't let the cook at Borgen's anywhere near Old Town or they can lock the doors now

I was there on Monday for lunch. The food was really good, including really excellent lefse, and the wait staff were very pleasant and efficient. But THE NOISE!!! My companion and I had to practically shout at each other in order to have any kind of conversation. It seemed that the conversations of all the other customers were amplified to rock concert level. What on earth is that about? Only reason I didn't give you 5 stars.
