Only used the pet washing station so can't comment on the rest of the store. The pet shower is great. They provide you with free towels and your choice of pet shampoo (with or without conditioner) to use. They have a separate entrance for the dog washing section but you need to pay at the counter first ($16 per pet) and they could unlock it for you so that you are not walking your pet through the entire store first. There would be too many toys and treat distractions to the pet washing area along the way. My only complaint was that the hook on the wall to tether your dog to was too low and close to the front. Otherwise it is a nice facility for dog washing.

We adopted our 10 week old Golden Retriever, Rusty (Buns), from this Animart. They take the time to go over everything and anything about your new furry friend. They are a little expensive, but I think well worth it.

First time in yesterday. Person at register saw us but didn't greet us. She did track us down a bit later to ask if we needed anything which was helpful. There were 2 employees I saw, both young girls. Other than that interaction and asking if I want paper or plastic they mainly chatted and we just went around them when needed. The Positives: Overall store was clean. The Pup cookies were so cute!! The store looked like it had alot of variety at first glance. The Rest: I was there to buy a few different small bags of cat food as my cats are so picky. The selection is very disappointing. I recognized a couple brands but the rest I didn't know and every single bag was expensive. I can't afford $26 for a small bag of cat food. Tried to find wet cat food and nothing. Cat toys were $6.99 and up. Cat treats were $4.49 and up when I can get same brand for $1.79 elsewhere. Lots of empty space where more variety (at some lower price points) could be stocked. I really want to shop local and phase out Amazon or driving to a bigger city. The animals.... sigh. Several bird cages, all empty but 1 had parakeets. There was a cat for adoption ($350) in a tiny tank. The poor cat had some scratchers in it and soft bedding. No food, water, or litter box that I could see. How many hours are they kept in those ?!?!Fish and small furries - several empty, very dirty tanks. Several tanks by sink were very dirty. A Guinea pig needs a bigger enclosure than that. It was terrified having humans come up to it and didn't have an adequate place to hide. The dogs - right away I was disappointed. For some reason I thought animart sold rescues. Nope, designer breeder dogs for $3500. Please don't do a response where you talk about your local select breeders like they're family etc. Keeping it local is great, but not when it's at the literal expense of others LIVES (all these animals who are euthanized because they can't find a home). Also no need to post that one article where Animart helped some rescues once. One good deed doesn't outweigh a continued bad one.In conclusion- It's almost 2024. Let's phase out breeder usage and start making long lasting local impact by doing rescue sales only and adoptathons. Be mindful that while Waunakee is a rich city, lots of people also live here who aren't rich and can't afford $26 for a bag of cat food. Have lower priced options and then collect data on sales. You will find by keeping shelves FULLY stocked, animals better cared for (the girls could have been working on this instead of standing and chatting so much), more variety of items, and having at least 1 older staff member on site, you will see the negative reviews decline and see more profit for your store. And yes, I know the response will be generic and the "we agree to disagree", but I hope you take this to heart. We can all do better as humans, businesses etc. People keep telling you the same things. LISTEN.

I love this location in waunakee, always knowledgeable and friendly, Shaina is great about finding the fish I want and is quick to get them! The store manager is really friendly as well and she knows me by name. The bigger store has lots to choose from but doesn't have the same close feel. Totes recommend this store!

We were in a few times to pick up emergency supplies but will make a point of not coming back in the future. Their stock of basic cat supplies has been limited more than once, with more empty shelves than not for entire sections of canned food, and aloof staff (when a small store like this is virtually empty and you still feel like you're chasing an employee down to be able to ask a basic question, that's remarkably poor service).Much more concerning, the animals that they have on site are in smaller enclosures than similar businesses, and the accomodations for everything except their designer puppies is visibly dirty. They have had more than one cat remain on site for multiple months unadopted, which considering the insane prices they ask for an adoption relative to any other local humane societies or other adoption foundations, is not surprising. They really are not equipped to be handling these animals.Either way, Mounds is an infinitely better (if somewhat more out of the way) alternative to every pet supply need, and the local humane society is where people should be going to adopt cats. As far as the business itself goes, even with these issues aside, they really manage their shop floor poorly and have lost us as returning customers.

This was one of the best retail experiences that I've had in recent history.I called ahead asking for inventory for budgies, Dena, the individual who answered the phone was super friendly and helpful.Based on that interaction, I headed into the store. Dena and staff had already prepared for my arrival, were so incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and personable. They took their time educating me on all things related to being a new bird owner, I rolled out of there feeling very confident in my abilities to provide my new feathered friend a safe and healthy home.I've been to every "chain" retail pet store in the Madison area, this felt like a neighborhood pet shop with great customer service and attention to detail.

Visited this animart location for the first time yesterday. The experience was unlike the madison and beaver dam store, I was not greeted, the animals were also kept in terrible condition, and had a poor experience with an employee. The hamster and gerbil “kit” in particular was horrendous and much too small and boring for those animals. One baby Guinea pig also looked like it could use medical attention as it’s eye was gooped shut. When I was checking out one employee asked another if she would do a hamster adoption and her response was “hell no” and went on register instead. Do not recommend this location to anyone, spend your time elsewhere.

A smaller version of the one by the mall, has a great selection of dog food and can always order special fish if they don't have something in stock. Very helpful and friendly management!

Highly recommend this pet store! Every time I call to pre-order my cats prescription food they are super cheerful and very helpful. All the employees that I’ve interacted with seem very happy to be there and are always willing to go the extra step!

Very poor marine setup. No room for employee to easily net fish. Way to much liverock in retail tanks. Employee had zero experience with marine fish and unsuccessfully tried to net 3 fish for me. Just as I was about to say forget it, as the fish were getting stressed she caught 1. Won't be back

This was my first time in the store while visiting family and needing to pick up some food for my rescue dog last minute. The store was clean and had good selection of food options.BUT I was extremely disappointed to see what appear to be bread dogs for adoption in the store. They had a pug puppy, bernadoodle and two beagle x rat terrier puppies for sale, many for over $1000. Right now shelters are euthanizing perfectly healthy and friendly dogs because of overcrowding. Shame on Animart for supporting breeders instead of attempting to place rescue pets in loving homes at their stores. I won't be supporting this business again, as they support breeders instead of rescues.

Went in to buy some blood worms for my fish.... first of all the smell when walking through the doors was awful.Mold in multiple fish tanks.Saw an employee recommend a 10 gal aquarium for multiple goldfish. One goldfish needs a minimum of 50 gal.If your going to carry and sell live animals you should really take better care of them.

Please Read! Please do not ever adopt from here. My puppy has a significant health issue. Animart did not disclose that a dog they had previously sold to a customer ( same breeder, same set of parents) had been returned to them for the same health issues as my dog. Animart allowed me to purchase the $2000 puppy anyway. It's one thing to buy an animal knowing that there could be issues; it's a different story when the Pet store has it on pretty solid intel that a customer's dog may very well have problems. It's unethical and irresponsible, among many other adjectives I could use. The breeder's last name is Bontrager, from Wisconsin. I reached out to managers at Animart before my dog turned a year old. She's 11 months now. ( Animart supposedly provides a one-year health guarantee. But that piece of paper means nothing.) Please reach out to me if you want more info, and please consider going elsewhere to adopt a dog; Animart cannot be trusted. I will now be paying at least 10,000 if I want to help my baby. I tried to resolve issues with Animart before posting this review

Waunakee Store had an awful sales person. She was extremely rude when I had asked if they got cats at this location, as if it was the most annoying question. Then proceeded to check me out and threw the money down on the counter at me. I personally love animart, this was my first visit to the waunakee location and I will not be coming back.

Super friendly, very clean, animals looked to be healthy (which can't be said for all pet stores), the only downside is it's tough for them to compete with online prices in some things. Brick and mortar pet stores have always had that struggle, even in the days of mail order.

Good selection of pet supplies for a smaller store, but still everything you need. Staff members are nice and can answer all the questions you have. This store was definitely needed here in Waunakee since there wasn't many pet stores near by

Those poor rats being kept in aquariums instead of cages made me EXTREMELY upset. Great way for you all to be selling rats with lung infections and other problems. Please fix this issue before you end up with a lot of unhappy customers...

We were so excited to see Animart open at this location! I went in with my 9 year old son to buy some new fish - and the Manager, Dena, spent an hour with him - speaking directly to him, answering many, many questions - some relevant - some irrelevant. She treated him like he was the most important person. She coached him and helped him make decisions and was patient, knowledgable and just outstanding. Animart is extremely fortunate to have someone like Dena who runs the store like an owner. The entire staff has been pleasant, friendly and fun and we are so happy to have a local petstore right here in town. So far we have been treated like special, hometown customers. Thanks Dena - for making a difference in the life of a 9 year old boy by treating him with respect and patience.

adopt, don’t shop. millions of puppies are looking for their homes in shelters. please don’t spend thousands of dollars on “designer dogs” from shady businesses such as this. there’s an overpopulation crisis and all they care about is profit.
