It was such a wonderful surprise it was to find this quality of a used bookshop in Washburn, Wisconsin. We stopped on a whim, as we always do when we see a used bookshop, on our way to Bayfield. After an hour and $75 later, as well as all our compliments to the owners, we left already planning our next return (which ended up being two days later, before we headed back home). It's rare to find a shop this large, well-organized, tidy, uncrowded, and well-stocked. Powell's in Chicago had been top of our list, but this surpassed the selection there, and with cheaper prices. We're poetry folks, so spent most of our time scouring the poetry selection, but we easily could have spent several more hours there. It also has one of the most extensive Native American sections of any shop I've encountered. Note: There are some new books in the mix, so those are priced accordingly. As other reviewers noted, the Google business listing should be updated to reflect this isn't a coffeeshop, just one of the most well-curated book shops in the Midwest (if not the country). Again, we found the prices very reasonable for the selection and condition of the books. We can't wait to return.

This is not just a bookstore, it is a book adventure!!!Multiple rooms on multiple levels, books arranged neatly and by genre. So many genres to browse. Little steps and chairs to reach treasures or rest and browse. Also, they are dog welcoming. Howard ate a few biscuits while I browsed books for nearly an hour. I could have stayed longer, but it was closing time. What a gem!

Only go here if you love books. They really know what they have on their shelves (down to the last dent and tear for their more "collectable" items). Lovely selection, and ok pricing. You'll certainly find something in your area of interest!

If you like used bookstores I highly recommend this place. They have a huge selection of used books that are quite well organized, with plenty of space to move around (and breath). They also have a large selection of obscure and out of print books as well as a few well selected new books. And the people who work there are quite helpful. They also have a large portion of their collection computerized so if you know exactly what you're looking for they should be able to check if they have it.

*This review is being written during the COVID-19 pandemic*I love old bookstores so it's easy to give five stars! But I was also impressed by the fact that the owners were both wearing masks!The store is clean and the owners are friendly and they have a wonderful selection. Plus that old book smell permeates through the entire store and it's nice and quiet. I'd live there if I could!

A true hidden gem. We have been stopping here for years and every visit is a joy. Today we showed up as they were closing during to us misreading the online hours posted. Without hesitation they ushered us in happily and let us browse. Truly great business!!! Books of all types and great customer service.

For a book lover this is the best place on earth. Full of interesting books and owned and run by two wonderful and very knowledgeable people. I love to browse in the stacks. Every time I have been looking for something, it appears in Richard's collections almost like magic!

Chequamegon Books has a truly impressive collection of used books. Great selection of nature writing, with books you won't find anywhere else. And a much better selection of academic books (so much Habermas) than you'll find at most bookstores, including the big brands.Only downside: the store no longer serves coffee, so grab a cup at CoCo's before heading in.

One of the most carefully selected bookstores for breadth and depth on topics. The local interest topics related to the area is unparalleled, and the sections are uniformly excellent. Impressive in ways other used bookstores can't touch. This is a destination bookstore.
