Thank you to Heartwood Resort for hosting our wedding reception this past November! If you are looking for a venue in the Northwest area, I can't recommend Heartwood enough! Heartwood is a hidden gem, tucked away in the woods which allows for a quiet, private and intimate experience. The building itself is beautiful, a true testimony to an elegant, up north dining/lodging/celebrating experience located on a private lake, surrounded by woods...total cabin vibe! The staff at Heartwood are phenomenal! Thank you to the chefs and bartenders for providing the amazing food, drinks and service all night long! Thank you to the set up/clean up and overall cleaning crew for keeping the venue, hotel rooms and cabins spotless all weekend! And a big thank you to Heather, the event coordinator at Heartwood who helped plan our special night for the past 11 months. We did not have a wedding planner but Heather made us feel like we did. She was always available for communication, brought our vision and itinerary to life and emphasized all of our ideas. Heather was flexible and eager to assist from the little details to last minute changes - she was there for us. We felt so supported throughout the whole process and very confident that all would go well because of Heather....and it did. The night was perfect and we wouldn't have changed a thing! Thank you to Heather and Heartwood staff for all of your hard work and understanding how special this day was to us! Please consider Heartwood to host your next event or even take a vacation getaway there and enjoy all the amenities they have to offer in the Northwoods! Enjoy! - Maddie and Joe Chucka

Our son and fiancee had their wedding and reception at Heartwood in October and we were completely happy with every aspect of our experience. From planning to day of execution of the event, the staff (Judy, Heather, Jenna and Chef Steve) couldn't have been any more supportive. 90% of our guests stayed at Heartwood which was super convenient. Some rented houses, cabins or had rooms at the lodge, all were super happy with their accommodations. Made it so easy to have everything from the Groom's Dinner, wedding and reception all in one place! The dinner at the reception was fantastic. All our guests complimented us on the quality of the food. Thanks Chef Steve. We had a buffet with chicken and fish, vegetarian option too.Everything was outstanding.Only limitation for guests was that there was no on premise restaurant available due to remodel. However, all of our guests were completely fine with bringing in food to cook in their rooms or to make the short trip to Spooner or Danbury for meals not associated with the wedding. Thanks again Heather, Judy, Chef Steve and Jesse, for making our families' big day so special and hassle free!

We could not have chosen a better wedding venue than Heartwood. Every aspect was top notch, and our guests were all impressed! The energy projected by Heather and the entire staff was uplifting, they went out of their way to make our wedding a show stopping event, catering to us like VIP’s. Facilities and grounds are clean, well-manicured, and updated. Chef Steve’s food was incredible and we received many rave reviews from our guests. It was a lovely wedding and a lovely time for all! After the event we sat at the fire pit with friends and family, before retreating to our Jacuzzi suite. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, and updated, with an amazing large private balcony. It was a 5-star experience!

My husband and I recently had our wedding at Heartwood and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The food was outstanding (all of our guests were impressed) and the staff were beyond wonderful! Shout out to Heather and Jenna for making everything run smoothly and look beautiful despite the weather being disrespectful to our schedule. They really helped ease all my bridal worries! Highly would recommend them for any special event!

Nice little weekend with my son. I have been here about 8 years ago and not much has changed. Some of that it good but the Cottage still has what seems to be the same beds and furniture. The porch hasn't been cleaned in a while. Everything needs a little update and attention to detail. Food offerings are sad that they can't figure out a little something, luckily the cottage has a full kitchen. This still a cool resort but needs a little love.

This was a perfect location for our family reunion, halfway between Minneapolis and Superior. This was also our first time at Heartwood. First, the staff are very nice and happy to help out or accommodate you so we appreciated that. The large house we rented was quite dirty around the edges, had old, 80s artwork which was the same painting throughout the space, and was very cold and echoed a lot. The BBQ grill was so dirty we couldn't use it. It needs a good cleaning and update. It was not as well stocked with the number of towels and trash bags we needed for a group of ten. We did have fun with lots of things to do: beach, river tubing and outdoor games. With a refresh, this could be a go-to vacation spot.

We held our family reunion at Heartwood Resort and had a wonderful experience. They provided a variety of housing options, including a large house, cottages, and lodge rooms, which worked very well for our situation. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was, without exception, friendly and welcoming. Judith, the Event Manager, was a joy to work with and helped my mother plan her 90th birthday party. Stephanie at the front desk went above and beyond more than once and was particularly kind to my elderly mother. There are many activities on site such as hiking, kayaking, swimming, etc. Our young adults raved that they had not spent so much quality time together in years. We will certainly return to Heartwood Resort in the future!

We used Heartwood for a multi-state conference. They hosted us for almost a week. They were FANTASTIC. In addition to the beautiful grounds, clean rooms, and amazing food, the staff was beyond attentive and helpful. Our group (100+) utilized their lodge rooms, cottages, duplexes, and the houses - basically all of their lodging types. This conference moves around the country and is held every other year. Many conference attendees said this was the best one they had ever attended due to the location, the food (often conferences have sub par food, but not this one! Many hats off to the chef!) and they had many, many compliments to Heartwood staff especially. We took walks on the trails and many attendees got to do a little wildlife watching between sessions on the 700+ acre property. The loons were calling on the lake as well, which was just perfect. We couldn’t have chosen a better location and the attentiveness, helpfulness, and friendliness of the staff just put this event over the top. They went so far above and beyond for our group and our conference ran smoothly and successfully because of them. Thank you Heartwood!

MOTHER’S DAY 2023The artificial flowers were too long for the cemetery vase, and the Mother’s Day balloon’s head blew away, leaving me with the stick. Things were anything but perfect—my head ached, and my body stiffly crept along, like an armored knight walking in lock-step. For my own emotional health, I decided I needed to make Mother’s Day reservations for myself. I would conquer the balloon and flowers for my mother later.“Hello, Heartwood? I would like to make reservations for your Mother’s Day Brunch for 9:00 a.m.”“How many will be in your party?”“Just me. My husband passed away in January.”We went on, the two of us, talking pleasantries a bit more, stranger to stranger. I promised I would be there at 9:00 and hung up.The next morning, I contemplated wearing my normal garb—jeans and a sweatshirt—but decided to treat myself to nice pants and a top. When I arrived, I was greeted by the young woman who recognized my name.“We talked last night. You are our guest today. Your meal is on us,” Stephanie said.I was dumbfounded and realized that this stranger saw within me something I didn’t realize I had revealed—that I needed to be pampered, that I was vulnerable, that I was tired, that I was worried, that I hurt. I had never alluded to any of that over the phone, but she knew. The staff regularly checked on me, the owner especially making certain I was fine, and I was. The brunch was amazing, filled with luscious entrees, a far cry from the normal Northwoods pizza-hamburger venues. I was also able to enjoy watching the young parents dressed in jeans and sweatshirts with their children, lining up for their eggs and shrimp and everything delightful.I am home now and soon I will be watching a movie—probably a western—that my husband would have liked. I will remember him telling me all about the lives of the actors, how this movie compared to another, how the plots developed. I will remember my folks and wish they were again enjoying the rustic comforts of the cabin. I will remember my caring son and daughter who will call later to see what mischief I have been into. And I will remember the strangers who crossed my path today to help point me forward into a journey of hope.

Location was great, rooms were good, clean and well equipped. We came for the New Years Eve event and thought the buffet had plenty of delicious looking choices but the food was barely warm and there was a long wait in line. Dessert buffet was wonderful but ran out of the choices fast. Also not enough seating for the musical part of the evening by a long way. Overall it was a bit disappointing.

Beach and water was dirty no options for food they dont have complimentary breakfast for paying hotel guests and not even options to purchase anywhere onsite OR nearby. Guest service was not helpful at all and food for the wedding we went to was bad, meat was overcooked and fatty the au jus was pure fat too and the potatoes were hard and seasoned but very plain bland tasting. Not worth the price whatsoever.

I was traveling with a group of 13 people on snowmobiles. Mark the owner greeted us at the main lodge. We stayed in 7 rooms that were very clean and tidy with a common area to gather. There are local establishments that have food and entertainment if desired. The trails are located very close to this property. I highly recommend especially for larger groups snowmobiling.

We had a work Christmas party here. The food was amazing, featuring a sushi station, prime rib station, and a taco station for our main meal. The hors d’oeuvres were fabulous to start, and the bar service was excellent. The flow of the evening went so well, you could tell that catering and events are common here. The rooms were decent, nothing too fancy, but clean and comfortable. I was happy to have both a microwave and mini fridge. The beds were very comfortable with soft sheets. I was impressed with the structure of the buildings and the layout of the resort. A great place!

My son and I used this resort as a base for ATV and fishing excursions over three days last week. We walked the extensive cross country ski trails for miles in the mornings. The property is big...700 acres. The trails are wide and groomed, and the foliage was just about peak color. Plan to eat elsewhere or bring your own food to prepare as we did (grilles are also available). There is no longer a restaurant on site. Thoroughly enjoyable stay!

Attended a retreat with a large group (over 60? attendees?). The rooms were clean, the food was good, and the staff were terrific. We appreciate all the terrific, hard work from Marlin, Maritza, Pam, Hannah, Jenna, Tony, Marky, Scott, and all the rest of the crew! Thank you for a all you did to make our weekend gathering so enjoyable!

My husband had his bachelor party at Heartwood back in 2020. The amount this place has changed since then is disappointing. No workers seemed to understand the processes on how things work. I wanted to speak with someone regarding tubing, but the front desk for Journey's was never open and the lodge front desk people weren't able to answer my questions. You then have to go to Journey's to sign a waiver even though it would be 100 times easier if whomever was driving just had us sign. Also worker at Journey's told us to go to a different pick up place so we ended up being late for our tubing time. The driver for tubing was confused why we brought our own cooler tube as he said no one ever does this. It didn't say anywhere on the website that we couldn't bring one and my husband brought one a couple years ago with no complaints. (Not really sure why I would pay them if I already had my own) The driver also said that this place is mismanaged and that the event that happened over labor day weekend was rigged so the owner could win. The duplex cabin we stayed in was nice. They say "Be Bear Aware" yet never came to get our trash. Wasn't such a terrible experience that I'd never go again, but a little disappointed as they treated my husband and his friends so differently.

A friend of mine and I reserved a room for New Year’s weekend. We had a couple hiccups with the heating system after checking into our room. The front desk staff went above and beyond to try and rectify the problem which was resolved the next day. We are very appreciative of all their efforts and we enjoyed our stay.A noteworthy tidbit to be aware of: There is no restaurant onsite. You need to travel at least 20 miles for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Attended a wedding at Heartwood Resort, renting a duplex for 2 nights for our party of 7 plus 2 dogs. The duplex was dirty and dusty, needed a good cleaning, and the door between the 2 units was unlocked. All bed linens were folded at the foot of the bed, so we had to make the beds before retiring for the night. The resort’s restaurant was closed so we had to travel 20 miles for dinner after checking in. After driving 550 miles, this was the last thing we wanted to do. The entire complex is poorly lit, and lakefront views from the duplexes is obscured by overgrown brush that you have to navigate when you park your vehicle. I will say that with better management the place has great potential.

My son and I enjoyed a great stay at Heartwood. The room in the Bald Eagle Lodge was big and had 2 queen beds. The addition of a microwave, stove top, and sink makes for some flexible options come meal or snack time. The property was well maintained with views of the lake, reliable WiFi, and friendly staff. I was able to ski on the many trails around the resort. These wooded trails are groomed for skate and classic and have a retro, old school feel as they wind through birch forests and plains. The on-site restaurant, The Pine Lodge, offered classic favorites of decent quality.

We spent two nights at the Heartwood in the Bald Eagle Lodge. We were not impressed. The Lodge needs a bit of a facelift. The carpeting should be removed or at least cleaned. The stains in the bathrooms need to be attended to.On the other hand, the grounds are terrific. There are walking trails, kayaks, hills for winter sledding, tennis courts, and the area around the resort is amazing with lakes, waterfalls,

Nice scenery, lake looked nice, bunch of sunnies right off the dock. If you come in from the north off 77, it's a gravel road for a stretch, if you come in from the south it's a sketchy sand road with side by sides going well over the posted 10 mph. Room was ok. Pro tip, if you're on a lower level room, lock the patio door. Had a random lady just walk right in as we were getting ready for a wedding.

We have been staying here for the last 3 American Birkenbeiner and we love it. It is really hard to find lodging in Hayward for the event and it can be very expensive. This location is affordable and doesn’t require a three night minimum stay. It’s about 1 hour drive away from the drop off for skiers but they offer a shuttle and early light continental breakfast. There are dinner options on site, too.

Overall a decent place to stay. Wish we would of used the outdoors more. We were visiting family in the area so gone most the day.If you plan on staying here, get a room with a stove. That would of been great for cooking breakfast. Other than the restaurant that's only opened for limited hours nothing really close by to eat and the snack store doesn't have much. Great place for hiking and ATV trails. Great atmosphere outdoors. Plenty of fire pits. Althogh they do not service your rooms daily. You just need to go to check in and ask for towels if you need them.

We booked the Aspen Trail Duplex for a weekend stay for the UTV Festival & Concerts. Events were fantastic, we had a great family weekend. Duplex was treacherously uncleanly. From bedrooms to bathrooms (which were super disgusting) in fact the back of the toilet area as well as the sides hadn’t been cleaned in so long, it was caked in black mold. Wash cloths and towels had stains and a musty smell to them and the rack that they were placed on was completely dirty. I made myself dinner in the kitchen and thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye by the stove and sure enough…it was a CockRoach. Aside from nothing being clean, that’s a deal breaker and I would not come back to this resort. Service was terrible at the Restaurant and buffet was not worth $22/person. I personally cleaned my duplex with Lysol spray and disinfectant which took about 3 hours and there’s no supplies offered to you here besides a beat up broom and finicky lighter but they sure do have quite the cleaning inspection list. Put more effort into eye to detail, you never know if the person staying in your resort Is a Cleaner or inspector!

We stayed a week from June 6th to June 12th, 2021 and could not have been happier. Mark took great care of us. My oldest daughter tripped in a flip flop and Mark, the owner, called the local clinic for us ahead of time to let them know we were coming. Great staff and positive attitudes. The views were gorgeous and the wildlife was amazing. The room was clean and spacious. We utilized almost everything they had there for free, such as the basketballs, mountain bikes, paddle boards, and boats. I did wish the beach area was a bit more groomed for seaweed but hey its a lake! The food at the Pine Lodge Restaurant was great and the waitress was really friendly as well. We will be back to this little gem hidden away.*Side note - watch for deer when going into town. We counted TEN round trip.

We had a wonderful time at Heartwood! We recently bought land in Minong and over the next year will be building a place to stay on our property. We will stay often while we get our spot set up. It’s only 10 minutes from Heartwood. It’s beyond exciting to have a place like this for all the activities and also place for family / friends to stay with us. Bob was kind and delivered when wonderful service. All the staff was friendly! Thank you Alana

Stayed during the winter at the end of February, would love to see the area during fall or even spring. But with all the snow, access to this resort was done very well. The rooms were very clean. The lodges common areas were also very clean. The bar and restaurant had a good selection of food that was delicious. Mark was very helpful, and was willing to go out of his way to help and make sure my visit was great. Will definitely be a customer again.
