Crains kitchen is the cutest hidden gem in Door County! We stopped here for lunch while visiting sister bay and couldn’t be happier with our food and service. The owner was the one who made all of our food and served us, giving us recommendations about the menu. We decided on the BBQ chicken and chicken pot pie sandwiches with the date and goat cheese salad. That plus a bowl of soup and two drinks, our total was less than $30! It was a steal. Great value and great food. Highly recommend!

Wonderful little gem in sister bay. We stumbled upon this place looking for a light lunch. We were greeted by the owner who explained his menu to us and gave a sample of his pozole. I ended up having that (pictured). My wife had the chicken pot pie biscuit. (Pictured)Also ordered a side of gluten free sweet potato biscuits. Excellent.Food is well done and reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place.

We checked google maps in Sister Bay for a breakfast/lunch option after finding out that Al Johnson’s Scandinavian Restaurant had a 90 minute wait…and we found one of our FAVORITE HIDDEN GEMS of our trip to Door County… CRAIN’s KITCHEN ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️… The tiny space is tucked away and recessed between two other businesses halfway up the hill on N Bay Shore Drive, a creation of a guy named Andy (Crain)… who loves to make biscuits from scratch and top them with aromatic homemade creations like the Chicken Pot Pie Biscuit that I devoured with joy. The chicken pot pie filling was concocted of stock made from scratch, so lovely! My dining partner had the Egg Sandwich Biscuit and which he described and “simple and cooked perfectly” and the biscuit was flaky and flavorful. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered a Pulled Pork Biscuit Sandwich, which did not disappoint… the pulled pork nearly melted in our mouths and was accompanied by crunchy cabbage which added to the sensory experience of this delightful meal!Go see this guy, Andy, at CRAIN’s Kitchen, and if he tells you there may be a short wait for fresh biscuits, stay there and wait! You will experience one of your favorite meals in Door County!

We was visiting my nephew in Ellison Bay this past summer and while browsing through Sister Bay I seen this restaurant kind of tucked back and I said let’s go there because there was a breakfast sign out and we hadn’t ate breakfast yet well we went in and the owner had gluten-free biscuits and that’s what I needed was gluten-free. He had bacon egg and cheese biscuit sandwiches and they were delicious and we had my nephew with us and a few others and everyone was very pleased with what they ordered. I cannot wait to go back to door County and go to this restaurant I will eat there every morning that I am there visiting!Dietary restrictions: It’s so awesome the owner has some gluten-free options, I was so excited.

Fantastic little restaurant that more people should visit. We went for breakfast one day and then lunch the next. The owner made our food both times. The biscuits and gravy were great. The veggie biscuit sandwich was fantastic and I loved the spicy Szechuan noodles. It's one of the most affordable food shops in town. The proprietor asked us about our food and genuinely cared. It doesn't look like much when you walk in but we had two very good experiences.Vegetarian options: Very good vegetarian options in our opinion. Simple pricing.

My wife and I were there for lunch. We were convinced by the very high rating that the place was where we wanted to eat.It was a cold winter day and the interior of the restaurant was very cold. We kept our winter coats on the whole time. The interior is cheap and the bathroom was dirty. Metal chairs and a cushioned but still uncomfortable bench for seating. Not well lit.The owner was the only one working. Nice guy but very busy. We were the only ones there. We ordered and then waited and waited for our very easy to prepare food. He seemed to be busy doing everything else except for preparing our food. The big thing at Crains is that they serve a lot of food with or on biscuits. I ordered bbq pork with Cole slaw on biscuits with chips and my wife ordered chicken with cream cheese and cucumber on biscuits with a small cucumber salad. We each were served 2 very small biscuit sandwiches. They were like sliders in size. Mine were okay. My wives were very bland. The cucumber salad was bland.

Just had a delicious soup lunch while waking through Suster Bay! What a cute and perfect addition to the Door County food scene. We enjoyed pozole, tomato soup and the home made biscuits! (Tip: order an extra biscuit; ours were gone in a flash).

Was really looking forward to a smoking hot cup’ a Joe and a biscuit sandwich, but Crain decided he’d take a little vacation, treat himself. Hope it was worth it Crain, I had to settle for an inferior product!Next year when I make my winter pilgrimage to Door County, you better be in operation.

Lovely little hidden gem with a lot of potential. The breakfast sandwich was good, the biscuits were fresh and light, and the food came quickly. I think there is opportunity for the place to be more popular. A few people came and went while we were there, not wanting to sit down, most likely because there was only one comfy/nice area to sit in and the atmosphere was not that welcoming. The tables and chairs were reminiscent of the 60's but were lost in the lack of theme and no emphasis on the home-cooked-meal-esque but modern vibe I think they're going for. The fluorescent lighting was harsh and uncomfortable. It felt almost like an at home BBQ × bakery with the metal coffee pots and cups with plastic cutlery. I think there is too much on the menu and it lacks organization. Midwesterners, as far as I know, like clear cut choices and a clear way to make them. The front counter is lovely and I really like how the kitchen is open and you can see the chef cooking. There is so much potential with this business to be more unique and cute and welcoming by making a few design tweaks here and there. But otherwise, it was delicious and fresh.

We stopped in on a whim and were so pleasantly surprised, we absolutely loved it! The specialty for breakfast is biscuits, with gluten free options. I got the chicken and dumplings biscuits, my husband got the green chili biscuits and our daughter had the egg sandwich biscuit. All of our plates were empty. The store is simple and cute and the staff who I assume is also the owner was so welcoming and wonderful. Highly recommend!!!

I'm not sure how this place is so highly rated. We arrived when the place opened and it was clear the owner wasn't ready to start the day. The coffee maker spilled over and was leaking all over the floor. There were dirty dishes from what looked like the day before. It was self serve coffee, which sputted out grounds along with some bland coffee. One of the 2 biscuit sandwiches we ordered came out cracked on top and shoved together. The cheese shavings in the sandwiches never melted and it's still unclear if real eggs were used. The tater tots were soaking in what tasted like yesterday's grease. $24 later we threw out our food, taking the loss of money versus the loss of a vacation day spent in the toilet after questionable food.

The combination of flavors in my salad and sandwich were masterful. The cornbread croutons were especially unique and amazing. Also, thank you Crane's Kitchen for spreading the delightful combination that is green chili and tater tots. It's hard to find outside of Colorado but so good! Keep up the great work!

Was definitely our best meal while in Door County. He was super friendly and welcoming. I was skeptical as I am more of a burger and brewery guy but I would go here over any other place for lunch. Both chicken sandwiches were excellent and the cucumber salad was amazing! Definitely putting this on our list for go tos every single time!

Okay, I’m going to try to be as honest and kind as possible. It’s very challenging to do both at times. Especially when it can be offensive. How about we start with the hood stuff. Like how it was a super adorable restaurant. Really tiny and quaint. Very quiet too. Making it easy for conversation. That and the owner, (at least I believe he was…as he seemed to do everything there) who seemed to be a very quick cook. The man was taking orders, cooking, and serving every customer single handedly. That’s a lot of jobs in one!Alright…now to the stuff some might take personal and/or offensively. Like how my sweet potato biscuits were completely raw and cold from sitting out.Put it this way, they were wet. Meaning the dough wasn’t even cooked at all inside. I’m pretty sure they were made earlier in the day and just put on plates when people come in. Same with the rest of the food that just sat out in crock pots.I get trying to be good with time. It just really takes away from the experience when the food isn’t cooked all the way and sat out for a bit.On a good note, the outside of the biscuit (the only part that was cooked) was edible. However, if I’m being honest it wasn’t anything that “I personally”would want to eat again.I recommend the cook checking the biscuits after each batch. That and maybe heating them up a touch before serving them. That way they at least have that fresh-like appeal.

We were in DC in the off season and were looking for a place to grab some dinner that wasn't a pub or bar. We were so happy to have found this little place! The food is fresh, delicious, and feels homey and familiar. There are offerings for people of many dietary persuasions and the owner was sure to ask if there were any allergies to be aware of since I ordered the sweet potato biscuits. The portions are just right and the prices are very reasonable. Mr. Crain was lovely and we had a great chat while we waited for and ate our food, even though we arrived close to closing time. I will definitely recommend Crain's Kitchen to my friends and family and will be coming back soon!Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and some vegan options availableDietary restrictions: Gluten free biscuits

A perfect lunch spot. This may have been the best meal we had during our trip, and we ate at a few of the mainstays. I opted to wait a few minutes for the fresh buttermilk biscuits for my pork sandwiches and was not disappointed. The restaurant is tucked back and down off the road and can easily be missed. The owner needs a sign right off Bay Shore Drive so people do not miss out.

I honestly wasn't sure about the gluten free Sweet potato biscuit, but decided to give it a try. It was very light and I honestly didn't really taste the sweet potato. I have to be gluten free due to celiac and they did great with avoiding cross contamination. I really enjoyed the chicken sandwich (wasn't dry without the BBQ). I will definitely go here again next time I'm in the area! There is outdoor seating to bring your dog
