I adopted a nine month old cat from the shelter in 2022. I could not be more impressed with the facility and the staff not to mention my adorable cat, Lois. The facility is like no other I’ve ever seen. The cats are socialized and not caged. It’s obvious how well cared for they are. I’m truly appreciative that I found and adopted through the Ocooch Mountain Humane Society. I highly recommend others do the same!

I’ve worked with several shelters for years with volunteering, fostering, and adopting and I’ve never had a more frustrating experience than with this shelter. I inquired about a cat who had been there for 7 years and I was denied because “the staff felt uncomfortable about the car ride home as she may not do well”, even with all my experience dealing with feral cats. This was after days of reaching out via email, phone, Facebook, and only receiving one phone call back where they said “our shelter manager will have to call you back.” They never did. I would message them on Facebook and they would read it but not reply, so I would have to message multiple times for maybe a response back. I cannot imagine how busy they must be, but how are these cats supposed to find loving homes if a potential adopter has to pry responses out of them and then be denied for an absurd reason such as the possibility of her being uncomfortable in the car? I spoke with someone else and they also said they went with another shelter due to the lack of responses from this organization. So unfortunate for these cats.

I’ll change my review when I actually get a call back.I’ve been trying to get ahold of this facility for 4 days now because I’m dead set on one kitty in particular but I’m not able to adopt her if I’m never able to set up an appointment.I love what they do for the furry babies but the whole point of what they do is to find a forever home for these animals. It’s a hinderance to this facility as well as the furry friends they care for.Update: after 4 days I get a reply but the kitty I want is already being adopted out

We had a great experience here...Bonnie is so kind and any staff person we saw was very friendly...it is so clean and a beautiful facility...we were given a nice gift basket and a kitty quilt all donated by others...we now have a beautiful kitty who we love dearly...

Great people running a great shelter. Top notch 100% volunteer organization that is funded 100% by donors. They truly care about the animals AND have the best Chicago hot dog house in miles!
