I bought a new coaster coaster bike there ~ the kind we learned on 68 years ago; No gears or hand breaks, and nobody buys that kind any more.He tracked one down and it was there a few days after I made my down payment! And it's perfect; I love it ~And I have bought other items there as well...scarves, hats, gloves, and socks -- they might seem overpriced at first, but look for the sales! And they are open on Sundays ~Highly recommended! 5 Stars!!

Didn't have what we were looking for. Walked around no one asked if they could help. Went upstairs and finally an associate asked if we needed help. They do have lots of stuff. Just nothing for hockey.

To Pedal Across Wisconsin (PAW) my good friend (and participant in More than 25 state rides) Jim Rosenberger and I rented bikes at Mel’s Trading Post. We completed this beautiful ride in Wisconsin with the correct equipment thanks to Mel’s. Craig and Mike moved my pedals on and off AND they had Crank Bros. Cleats to replace my worn hardware. Call them, talk, you will be relieved.P. S. Does Mitch look like his dad?Thank you all!

Going to Mel's has been a tradition for over 20 years when visiting Mom and Dad. Great informative and very friendly staff. Recently purchased back country cross country skis for busting through deep snow and skiing on the lakes. They hooked me up with just what I was looking for at internet competitive pricing. Mel's is an icon of Rhinelander. They have anything you want or need for your outdoor pursuits. Kayaks and skis upstairs. Shotguns and bikes on the main level. And more bikes in the basement. The staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly! And they're pet friendly!

We had a great experience here. Couldn't find any Nordic skis that we wanted at the shops in the town we're in so we drove a couple hours out here on a phone call and a dream.Brian was fantastic. He got my partner and I outfitted with complete ski packages, which were exactly what we were looking for. Everyone else we talked to here was super friendly and made shopping (something I usually dislike) a thoroughly pleasant experience. 10/10 would consider driving a few hours out here again.

Bought an excellent kayak at Mel's this weekend and had superb service in choosing it. I was very impressed with the well thought out safety measures in the store. It was so nice to shop without the anxiety of worrying about unnecessary exposure. Great experience all the way around!

Don't let the front fool yah, this sporting good store is a top tier type of store, quality matters here. Guns, fishing, kayaking, boating, biking and so much more is located here. As a trek guide I visit here quite often for new spelling and sometimes repairs/advice on equipment.

They helped me restore a favorite fishing pole back to working order. Reel was too old/small to use the winding machine so they hand-wound some new line for me. Couldn't believe it when they only charged me $1.80. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fantastic place.

Stopped in to kill some time and ended up buying an FN 57. Bought a new gun cheaper than any other store I could get it at. The staff was very friendly and courteous. They had everything from sports equipment to camping gear. A true hidden gem I would definitely recommend this place if your a local or just passing through

I use to love to shop at this store, until they decided to cater to Chicago yuppies instead of Northern Wisconsin sportsman. $600.00 for a jacket made in China they must have rocks in their head.

I have been a customer here for years. I bought my first good backpack from these guys back in 2005. since then I have bought a couple of bicycles, camping gear, and fishing supplies from here. My most recent major purchase was a bicycle for my wife. Absolutely fantastic experience. Mitch, the owner, was very accommodating and helpful with fitting the bike. Their prices are on par with or just below REI, and the service is way better.

Didn't buy anything on this visit but a previous visit I got a pretty cool sweatshirt on sale, that I still love.Every time I come here I wanna buy a new bike. They have a great selection. Rhinelander needs more shops like this.Sadly everyone orders online, which I'm also guilty of.

I love this local gem! I'm not really outdoorsy but when I need good walking shoes or boots for my kids or like anything with outdoors use, I come here. The staff is really the best and beyond helpful here. I look forward to coming and checking out what they have, all quality items.

They got me ready for ski season! The staff set me up with a new cross country package and modified my old skis to be compatible with the new boots while I was getting fitted. Now all I need is for it to start snowing!

Quick service. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. They actually care about their customers and make sure you are taken care of. Everything Mel's sells is high quality merchandise. They stand behind what they sell. They have a great selection of bikes and disc golf stuff, as well as other sporting goods. Their camping merch is the best! I will go here any day for all of my outdoor sporting needs or outerwear before I go to a big box store. They have competative prices and always have great sales. This is one heck of a gem to have in Rhinelander. Mel's rocks!

Mel's is a gem of the northwoods. A fantastic sporting goods store in the middle of sportsman's country. They support hunting (both gun and archery) skiing (both cross country and downhill) cycling (both mountain biking and road cycling) canoeing, kayaking, camping, snowshoeing. They also have a nice selection of outdoor apparel and shoes. For most of these activites, they have a nice selection of new gear and equipment, but I often buy used equipment here. They do offer support, such as bicycle repair, ski waxing and tuning, etc. The prices here are fair. Unless you find a sale, they're likely to be comparable to or higher than websites and discount stores. But I consider that a reasonable price to pay for 360-day/year sales and service by knowledgeable people in a small town. I believe that their cross-country ski sales and service are particular well-acclaimed. I have heard that people travel many miles to purchase cross-country skis here.
