Normally have never had any issues with this place, other than high prices but it’s whatever. I went to do a UPS drop off and they don’t take QR codes, which isn’t that big of deal, it’s inconvenient but not why I’m leaving this review. The guy at the customer service desk was extremely condescending and rude. I told him I had a QR code and he goes “I’m sure you do but we don’t take them.” And points to the memo. Extremely rude tone. Like I said, never had an issue but if he’s gunna be working customer service, he needs to learn how to not be condescending.

It's great to have a store close that has people that know the stuff they sell or ask someone who does. Prices a little higher but worth it when I needed a second gallon or how do I fix ???? Beats driving to Madison and back. They even carried my heavy things to my car!

Would rather drive to Baraboo for anything they sell here. Prices are much higher at doitcenter than anywhere else for the same item.

They are very helpful here. A bit over priced tho and you really need to check the date on shelf sensitive material. We bought a gallon of pressure sensitive glue to keep our LVP flooring down but it exprired in 2019 and won't dry out and is becoming a huge mess in our house.

Just had some very detailed questions not many people were able to answer, Then Noah from Portage Lumber-Do it best picked up the phone, and When asked a question, He simply said “I don’t know, But I am going to find out!” The professionalism, Kindness and attention to detail Noah showed to Me as a contractor was Second to None, and for That, Portage Lumber- Do It Best will be receiving My business. We went in to Portage Do-It Center and they were open (9-5 on a Sunday!!) and the staff was SOOOOO helpful!! My friend and I went into buy stain for a deck and we were completely at a lost! Well, Donna in the paint/stain area went above and beyond to help us!! She had amazing recommendations and tips to help us get the job done! We are currently staining and the quality and color of the stain is amazing!! We went to check out and Kay at the front counter was so pleasant, saved us 10% at checking out which was about $18 AND walked us out to fill our car!! Great staff and product, thank you all so much!!

I’ve shopped at this store off and on for the last 10 years and their customer service is ALWAYS top notch, which is something to be very proud of!! Will you pay a little more? Maybe (not always) but you will never be left aimlessly walking around the store trying to figure things out for yourself. In a world where customer service is one of the only things you have control over and often what keeps people coming back, these people have it figured out!! Thank you!

1. Happier now. Not sure what changed. The wood quality and price is BETTER than the competition. Inventory is better. Some prices seem much more in line. I am trying to support you. Your lumber and loading staff have been excellent. Outstanding service. Polite. Respectful. I moved you up to 5 Stars with recent experience. Keep up the good work.2. Previous experience From really high prices to trying to return items. Today. I honestly lost my receipt. From a week ago. They keep an electronic record. Just like Menards. Nope. Big freaking deal. Why did I return it? Well. I found more wrong. Needed a lot more parts that you did not stock. I bought a flu pipe for $12 at Do it. Menards was under $5.00. I needed 4 pipes plus a bunch of extra parts. My savings was likely $75.00! At Menards. Sorry! I try to support local business. High temp sealer. $13. Menard's. $7.

Crazy expensive!!!!! It's bad when I drive all the way to Home Depot because ( 2) 1/2" copper pipes would cost $24 more here. I understand it's a small town hardware store but 100% higher? No way!!!!! I want to shop here but also don't want to feel molested when I leave. Closed at 3pm on a Saturday? That's helpful. Bung!!

I am a frequent customer and certainly spend a bit of money here for my hobby farm projects. I find that most of the employees are very friendly and helpful as are the guys in the yard and Rich at the rental desk. The price is significantly more than Menards, but that is too be expected. You are getting better products and better service here at Portage Lumber.

Recently, I purchased a Milwaukee jobsite Bluetooth speaker. It failed to stay powered on after 8 days. I called in talked to Craig and I will be exchanging for another tomorrow morning. The great part is Craig called me back an hour later informing me he set the exchanged speaker at the back desk because he is not working tomorrow. Now that’s great service.

Such great improvements to this store. Not just a lumber yard anymore. They have got everything now. Great new lawn and garden area too. Love all the new hardware thwy brought in on this last remodeling.

I've used the services of Portage Lumber for 30 years. They are a good basic hardware store/lumber yard. They're as good as any big box store, (Home Depot, Menards,Lowes) without the big selection. I my case they are closer than any of the others, so for most of my needs in the areas they supply, they are my first choice. I like their salespeople especially Joel Kasten.

Great neighborhood lumber yard. Not the selection of building/plumbing/electrical supplies as some of the bigger box stores, but I've never left without what I needed to get the job done. Nice folks.

Sad customer service. Called one day about renting a tool they said they can't rent because of covid. Stopped a week later was told the rental guy quit so they can't rent out anything. Really no one else woring in the store knows how to do it. Then stopped to get some tubing of course they didn't have it. Asked about the department again and now this time they said they can't rent out because of covid. Lets get your story right. How do uou stay openrental

Went to rent electric snake didnt have all tools had 2 use a butter knife 2 push in pins to attatch the snake line, spent over 300$ on parts and rental forgot to return toolbox until next morning. My wife took it in carrying my 1 yr old daughter, guy who works the rental counter proceeds to curae my wife out and threatens to charge 50 more dollars, very friendly customer service
