I just had a conversation with a current Humane Officer at Portage Co. Humane Society. As a former Humane Officer with Portage Co. back when Humane Societies from around the state wanted to be like us, as Humane Officers, it's sad to me on how far this shelter and it's policies have fallen.

Before I could take the kitten home that I planned to adopt, they made me spend time with it in a private area to make sure we got a long. My experience was 100% awesome, and yes we got along, and he came home with me. He is doing great and getting along with his big sisters after one week.

Portage Humane Society !!! , One of the best Humane Society I have seen. Clean , friendly and plenty of helpful and courteous staff!!This is ''ash'' or ''mashy, mash''. Hand raised by one of the staff as a baby and that makes a huge difference.Look forward to seeing him every day when I come home from work.He waits by the window and starts running back and forth when I pull up. To give this Human Society any less then 5 star is disrespectful.

We found some kittens and with the help of the Sheriff we met with this amazing lady ( she had cowboy boots on the first the girls noticed before even given her the kittens) she was very sweet, and so was the gentleman with her, I think he was the owner, manager but very sweet nice people. Also explained why they have by appointment, so you can have that time to your self play interact with the pet or pets of your choice. So you can have 💯 % all your time and attention in your perfect pet.

Our cat "Chuck Norris", ended up in the "cat clink". Within 24 hours of me posting him on the lamb we had people telling us that Chuck (appropriately named Edmundo...I'm Puerto Rican) was behind kitty bars. After posting bail the next day we had Chuck home safe and sound with EXCELLENT care!

I guess I'd prefer seeing all the dogs like in days gone by. You don't get the connection from seeing pictures. The staff was very professional and responsible to the animals!

We are so happy with our Duckie. She has fit perfectly in to our family from the start. I was worried that it would take time for her and my dog to get along. They were snuggling the first night!! She sleeps with us, and is very social. I love her so much!!

We have surrendered a few kittens found in our area that had been abandoned and in need of immediate medical attention. The first case was at night and a member of the staff came to take the kitten, which likely saved it's life. Their adoptable animals are well cared for and clearly given the love and care they need. I love that they provide such an important service to the community and protect the lives of the critters they receive. Anyone who can donate money, resources, or their time - this is a worthy cause. Always consider adoption over buying from a store or breeder - typically these animals will be loving and loyal as they appreciate the second chance they have been given. Thank you PCHSWI for everything you do!

Open 24 hours a day is a joke, I have called upwards of 20 times around noon and again upwards of 20 times since 5 to 6, How are you ever gonna be able to make an appointment or anything. Highly unprofessional please update your Google information and Hire better staff for the love of the animals.

The cages are very nice, they are two wide for the adult cats that I saw. They take very good care of the animals they have and the staff is very friendly and easy to talk with.I am adopting 2 adults from them. If you are looking for a companion check out their animals. They include more than one picture and a nice bio on the animals.

WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE!I live in south eastern Wisconsin, so it was a 2.5 hour drive, but oh my god that doesn’t matter when the result was so much better!We adopted the very young 3 year old Owen (cat). He has been nothing but the biggest cuddler and sweetheart!The people at this humane society were so incredibly sweet and kind, I told them about my very high standards in a cat and they directed me to our family’s new best friend!Their facilities were extremely clean and all the other cats looked so happy and healthy!

This Humane Society at Portage County was very very clean and very professional. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They gave us a tour told us about the dogs and their personalities. they helped us decide which way we should go with a dog by telling us about each dog's personality and not labeling any certain breed. I respect that very much because all dogs do have very different personalities, mostly happy! The next time I want to adopt another dog I will definitely be back to the Portage County Humane Society!

We went in too meet a cat , who a stray , the people working there were very nice , we filled out an application and where accepted very quickly. We got to play with our potentially adoption kitty for a very long time. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable. So yes you should go here to adopt a pet.

Staff is excellent. Facility is well thought out for the care of the animals. Adoption is affordable and easy. I have adopted 3 cats here. My daughter just adopted her first cat here as well. I live in Wis. Rapids, my daughter now in Plover. We wouldn't go anywhere else. I love this shelter for how the staff cares for the animals, as well as their clients. But mostly...their animals. ;) ❤I want to add...when my daughter came to adopt her first cat, she knew which cat she hoped to adopt. The one lady, whose name I forget yet I love working with; asked what qualities she hoped to have in a cat. My daughter told her. The lady told her that she wouldn't want this cat, then, and why. We appreciated the honesty. For several reasons he would have been a very poor fit. She walked cage to cage and help ensure a proper fit for my daughter. My daughter found an underweight girl in need of love, a bath, lol! A few good meals!! You should see Azula now...just beautiful! Anyway. I love the staff here. They really take time and they truly care.

Adopted our cat from here in Aug 2015. Fairly sure they lied about his age- said he was 7-8 while our vet said he was closer to 15. They didn't fill us in on any of his medical info... had to thoroughly read his records for info and discovered problems after we had adopted him. We loved our little buddy, but recently had to put him down. Based on how all of this turned out, I would recommend going elsewhere.

We have gotten all our pets from the Humane Society of Portage County. We tell them what kind of dog or cat we are looking and they have always introduced us to the perfect pet. All of our pets have been great animals and have become part of the family! I highly recommend getting all your animals from the humane society.

I walked in one day to volunteer. I hadn't been there for weeks. I got to the dogs and there was no food, two different piles of vomit, and a lot of feces. The cat cages weren't much better. I told an employee at the desk. He took a look, and didn't do anything right away. He sat back down and SCOLDED ME for looking at something "I shouldn't see."

Dog in pen, with sign “doesn’t like to be left alone”... and he was all alone. Workers were rude and wouldn’t let us pet the kitties even though we weren’t looking to adopt. Kitties and dogs need love and they should be grateful to people who just want to come in and give some love.

Amazing. If you adopt a cat or dog everything is prepared including: vaccinations, chip, and spade,/neutering. Now your new family member is ready to go home! Please always consider adopting from the Humane Society as they are a nonprofit and no kill shelter! They also offer low cost spade n neutering clinics, and have many fundraising events thru-out the year. I'm sure they, like many businesses, have been financially effected by the Covid.
