We found our dream kitty! She has really helped our older cat's depression over the loss of his sister of 6 years. The staff were prompt to reply & very helpful. Our kitten was scheduled to be spayed a week after we brought her home, and they provided transportation to the vet and follow up instructions for her surgery, as well as 2 days of pain meds. Couldn't be happier!

Took over almost 3 months to get my girl scheduled for spaying. When I dropped her off, they just grabbed her and said pick up between 4 and 6 tonight; no explanations, etc. and closed the door. Picked her up at 4, I asked for care instructions and was told there wasn't any. I had to call the Vet office when I got home to get information, they told me I should have received written instructions, which I did not.

The staff take excellent care of the animals. They are always looking for ways to enrich animal lives until a forever home is found. No animal has a "time limit" there....they keep all animals until a good home is found.

In my opinion, they had no idea what they were talking the about. We adopted a feline and she sprays. Are main concerns were only of that. My son, and my better half fell in love with her. And due to their lack of concern, and knowledge. They are now heart broken, that we have to get rid of her.

I always feel sad going into the shelter. But even though I was returning Lilly, I felt bad for it. She was a really good girl. She saved her humans life. He just couldn't care for her properly.

I’ve adopted two dogs from this shelter—they care so much for each and every pet. The first dog we adopted from them—a yellow lab—they’d had in their care for six whole months. They never gave up on him, and I’m so grateful to them. Amazing, compassionate shelter—support them if you can 💖

This animal shelter went above and beyond! My brother-in-law loves his dog, friend, and companion. They were in a car accident which required him to be transported to the hospital. This shelter housed the dog for over a week. When the two were finally reunited they had provided a new collar and 25lb bag of food. They did not ask for a penny. They provided excellent care and helped to reunite these two. Thank you for your excellent service!

We adopted our sweet rescue pitty from this place. I know the people who found her, and followed her progress. When she became available for adoption, I called immediately. They were very accommodating, and helped us make sure she was a good fit for our family. The place is clean, the animals are well-cared for, and they even gave me a veteran's discount on the adoption fee!

We are delighted to have adopted Porcha (now Holly) from OAHS yesterday 2/8/21. Carrie was of great help to us in making us feel comfortable with Porcha. Her interaction with Porcha was very sweet and caring. She was eager to answer our questions and make positive suggestions. Holly is home with us now and is is slowly becoming comfortable in her new surroundings. We are pleased with the whole experience at OAHS. Thank you, Diane Auger

I can't advise against adopting a pet through Oconto Area Humane Society enough. We called three times before making the hour and a half drive up to adopt a dog they insisted just needed time to adjust to being around cats and loved other dogs. The same night that we brought he attacked our other dog. He bit her neck and shook her until she went limp; fortunately she was not seriously harmed. We had to make another 3-hour round trip drive to return him the next day and the people at the shelter acted like this was a huge inconvenience for them. I called to talk to the manager who insisted that the dog should never have been adopted out because he had already been returned for trying to kill someone's cats. The fact that this was supposed to be in his record but they still adopted him out to us, a family with two cats and a smaller dog, leads me to believe that there is either a serious lack of communication between the staff of the shelter or that they deliberately adopt out animals to unfit homes in order to keep half of the adoption fee. All of the staff members were incredibly rude during this ordeal and the way that we were treated was completely unprofessional. I would never go through this Humane Society again and would strongly advise others to use caution if they decide to.
