the volunteers here are horrible at customer service and extremely rude. I adopted a cat a few months ago with what seemed to be an amputated leg, that has not healed since I got him late december. I’ve brought him to the vet and just called to schedule another appointment and they suggested to try calling the humane society since this was a problem before I adopted him to see if they had anyway to help or any appointments/ services they could offer. so I called the humane society and the woman who had answered asked how she could direct my call. I was extremely thankful she seemed nice because the last time I called with a simple question, the woman who answered was so frustratingly rude to me that I hung up and cried.I told her about how I adopted a cat a few months ago who has been having health problems from his leg since adopting him that weren’t fully disclosed to me prior to adopting him and was wondering if I could set up an appointment with them to look at him. Immediately she says “what do you mean appointment??” in the rudest tone I’ve ever been spoken to. So I tried to explain that my vet recommended that I called them to see if I could set something up, and the whole time she was just cutting me off to argue with me then proceeded to ask for my number and his name to look him up and attempt to prove me wrong. She even told me they would never sell an animal with a wound that wasn’t fully healed. She kept saying to feel free to return him and that they don’t do refunds. I was so frustrated because I called asking for HELP, not any money back or returning him or anything.I understand they might not have any services or appointments to help and I could have just been mistaken, but a simple “I’m so sorry, but unfortunately we don’t provide anything that would help.” and I would have said “that’s okay! thanks anyway.” This conversation could have lasted about 2 minutes, rather than the 11 minutes I had to sit there and basically be attacked just for simply asking for help.I will never come to this humane society ever again, and definitely will not be supporting them in any other ways or recommending to anyone. It was just so unnecessary and frustrating and this should not have been the second time this has happened out of the two times I’ve called months apart. The photo I added is a picture of my cats leg, the day after I adopted him for $200.

If you are looking for that place, where to find a pet or to have your pet serviced, look no further… You have come to the right place, the staff here are very professional, with love and passion in playing the role of your career. In the same way, the volunteer staff are excellent. I tell you that I came to this place and I was delighted to see the service they provide. And even more so when I walk down the hall seeing the pets for adoption, well cared for, just like being at home. It is also worth noting the hygiene of the place, and the attention they provide. And I could give you free food for the member of my house, so you have no excuse to leave him without eating.Come and take a walk around here.

Dog classes here are high quality. We took my pup here for puppy enrichment and we went back for a dog manners class. The class was an approachable refresher on her manners and practicing calmness in exciting places. Excellent for new dogs in training and those who would benefit from simple tasks and less distractions. Our instructor is knowledgeable and has valid dog training certification. I tried other dog training places such as Central Bark and Happy Tails Pet Training, which I also enjoyed, however this place seems like the best basic manners course - first teaching you how to get your dogs attention and then training the humans on how to train their pups in a positive and understanding way.Pups showed improvement during the class and the instructor made it easy to follow her information while doing tasks. They even emailed what we learned, so it was easy to refresh.

We had the best experience while at the Milwaukee campus last night. Last night our new furbaby came home. Gideon (now Cash) was adopted by our family. He is such a gentle giant. Made himself right at home! Very well behaved and so loving! He already responds to his new name, knows commands such as speak, sit, down and shake. He is responsive to our daughter and showing to be a protector of his humans. His temperament is perfect for our hone. At 5 years old he is playful and again GENTLE.The staff at the Milwaukee campus were super friendly and attentive to our family dynamic.Welcome hone Cash, you are already so loved!

Really poor adoption process. They don’t allow you to make an appointment so you end up wasting a lot of time only for the animals that you were interested in to be gone by the time you are called. Elmbrook Humane Society does a better job and is respectful of your time. I recommend going there.

Hate it takes 45 minutes plus to do anything here. Should not take over an hour just for the lady to grab the dogs file and show me her. I've adopted 2 cats and a dog here. The staff really has NO IDEA what they are talking about. Plus the dog I've adopted I had to spend over 1000$ on medical bills. She has an on going UTI which the humane society never once treated. Who ever is in charge really needs to learn to take better care of their animals.

Kay, my adoption counselor, was very helpful. They were super eager to introduce me to dogs I was interested in. They were so knowledgeable and friendly. I had an immediate bond with Roxy and I’m so glad I got to take her home!! She’s snuggled up by my legs as I write this :) Great service, glad this pup could find her forever home with me ❤️

Very poor administration. Lack of organization and structure make the adoption process drawn out and unpredictable. The waitlist is largely meaningless and not respected. Further, there is no ability to make an appointment so if you are driving from any distance you will likely end up waiting for a long time and gambling that the animal you’d like to adopt will still be available by the time you are called. We had a much better experience at Elmbrook Humane Society, which appears to be run much better, and would encourage you to go there instead. Elmbrook is also no-kill.Before arriving, I signed up on their wait list, which they encourage; I received a text that I was up and had 5 mins, walked in the door, and was told they gave my spot away because I didn’t show up on time. I showed them the text message that I just received only a couple minutes before and they had no response. They put me back on the list and I waited over 45 mins before being called. People walking all over, no structure, largely a random process.

Nothing better than donating a few hundred bucks then having to wait 90 minutes when you decide to adopt your own animal. 0/10 would not recommend. Adoption coaches here aren’t even that helpful. Go to Elmbrook instead

Beautiful shelter and amazing staff! About two weeks ago my fiancé and I were lucky to take “dream” (now mama) home! We absolutely adore her and cannot wait to give her the life she deserves.💖 I believe Alexander helped us while we were at the shelter and he was awesome!

This place is horrible to keep pets. They euthanized a cat that meant so much to my sister. The poor kitty couldn’t even adjust to her new environment so they euthanized the poor thing after TWO DAYS! 48 hours! Do not bring your pets here this is not a haven or safe place for cats.

They where very kind and understanding when I unfortunately had to surrender my dog. But the best part was that they allowed me to get my dog back for no fee after I decided I wanted her back! Thank you guys so much!

I adopted my very first cat Renee aka (little bitty kitty) last month it was the weekend and they were really under staff and I waited a really long time but it was totally worth it everyone there including my counselor Callie that helped me adopt Renee was very very nice and was able to answer all my questions so I'm very happy.(I love my new kitty so much she has changed my life for the better I can't imagine not having her in my life.)

So I went there intending to buy a kitten, I found one that just was so perfect that I instantly said I want her. Come to find out after quite a bit she can't go home yet because she has/had an upper respiratory issue....I was sad and bummed out so I went to look at the other ones. I found yet another cutie that looked like he just needed love and attention so I picked him out but I asked right away to make sure there was nothing keeping him from going out by himself since he was with another kitten, I was told no. So I bought the kitten did the papers and as soon as I came back in I was pulled aside (at this point I was already there for about 3 hours) and told that I cannot take him home because he has to go home with the other kitten....super depressed and very upset. So I finally came upon this laid back kitten or as I was soon to find out this crazy spam attack of a cat! Super duper happy and thrilled. She cost less than the other kitty so I just used that money towards the Fromm they have and donations. Although I was there for 4-4 1/2 hours I couldn't of been happier from the outcome nor could I ever doubt the amazing staff they have on hand. I'm a handful at times especially when I get upset but the ladies and gentlemen that helped me were a blessing. The guy that took care of me at the end was so helpful and very educated since he's been working there for 16 years! The other lady that helped me initially was named Sue and although she didn't have information for me those times for the kittens I'm very happy she was so sweet and helpful as well. Thank you all for being such selfless human beings and being a voice for those that have none!

Yesterday my bf and I adopted a beautiful German shepherd named Nemo! Our process was so great! Rebecca played a huge role in making sure all our needs and questions were met! We had the best experience with her and I definitely recommend her if you need any help adopting in the future!

Me and my family got a new puppy and 3 days later she’s so sick she needs all types of medication and fluids honestly they should be responsible for at least a week after a animal is adopted out and ends up sick like this I feel it’s irresponsible to adopt a animal out while this sick I would never adopt from here again thank god our new baby is getting the care she deserves from us and will be much better while in our care

Went in thinking we would just take a look, and ended up leaving with our forever pet. Chuck helped us through the process of finding a dog that fit both mine and my partner’s wants, and after missing out on a puppy we had wanted to look at we were directed to Mavis. She was extremely scared and anxious, but after we gave her a chance she really showed us how much love she had. The people here do an amazing job, and have really changed our lives.

Go get a kitty, doggo, bunny, or a variety of other adorable creatures or multiples, or mixed pairs. The cats have their own hotel, how fancy is that?! The staff were great! Enthusiastic greeters and kind, knowledgeable adoption counselors. They helped us find our perfect little kitty man!

THESE GUYS ARE CAT MURDERERS!!! MY FRIEND HAD TO SURRENDER ONE OF THEIR CATS AND THE MOMENT THEY GAVE THEIR CAT TO THE SHELTER, THEY DIDN’T EVEN GIVE THE CAT A FULL WEEK TO ADJUST TO THE PLACE. INSTEAD THEY EUTHANIZED HER AFTER 2 DAYS OF ATTEMPTING TO TAKE CARE OF HER!!! THESE GUYS CANNOT TAKE CARE OF ANIMALS AND I WOULDN’T EVEN BE SURPRISED IF THEY SPAT ON YOUR PET!!!

Thank you for allowing us to meet Taco, Andrea. He is perfect for our family and is completely spoiled by all of us. The kids adore him and he loves them back!My only issue is I called 48hrs after adopting to inform them of kennel cough and they were quick to say we signed him over to you now. I was told to just let them know to prevent an outbreak. Sadly once the dog is gone he is over with. However Taco is worth is all!

Staff was informative and understanding of our requirements for adoption. The dog we originally were there to see unfortunately turned out to be aggressive towards cats. That's one a staff member mentioned a puppy that was brought in earlier that week that was not yet listed online. I'm glad they did show us because that dog became part of our family. It's been two years since this experience and I wanted to thank the Humane Society of MKE and its caring staff for allowing us to take in this sweet boy.

I went to the wildlife area and the girls were beyond helpful! They helped me and my elderly friend get set up to get rid of a racoon in his house that his disgruntled tenants let get inside his home. They explained the process wonderfully and we were able to get the trap set up and extract the racoon from his place with the bait they provided. Also, not charged for using the trap because it was under 7 days. They only charge if you keep the trap.

I adopted Patches in 2009 when she was 5. She just recently passed away at over 18 years old. We spent the most amazing 13 years together thanks to the Milwaukee Humane Society. Thank you for bringing us together!

After waiting 3 hours to the pit I really wanted to adopt but being older I had to make sure I could walk him answer no could he meet my other dog no she said he was aggressive with food I noticed she showed fear giving the dog a hotdog then me and my granddaughter gave him some hotdogs no problem good boy. All older pits are in the back how is this helping people adopt after 10 minutes were done but said my granddaughter wanted to see the kitten we would have to sighn up all over and wait 3 hours. I feel like alot of dogs could find good homes but they sure didn’t help me or the poor pit. He would be in my house now

All in all, the process was fairly easy. The staff was friendly and the animals were clearly treated well. Adopting a rescue dog is fulfilling and more often than not there’s the surprise bonus of the animal already being housebroken.

There should be a no star option. I have been adopting at the humane society of Wisconsin for over 10 years. Recently my dog got out and I was contacted by the Washington county humane society that they had him this was around 6pm. In order to get him back I needed a license (I was never informed of needing a dog license in my last 2 adoptions, that would have been nice) which I could get when I got there no big deal and proof of rabies vaccine. My vet was already closed for the day and I did not have a copy of his vaccinations on hand. The humane society closed at 7pm anyways so there was no way they were going to let me have him back. He’s 2 years old and completely blind. The woman on the phone seemed surprised to find out he was blind that shockingly low level of observation by their staff is a whole other issue in itself. I had no choice but to except my disabled puppy would be kept there over night until I could meet their demands the next day. At 8am the next morning I informed them that I had the rabies info at which point they told me I would be able to pick him up at my earliest convenience after paying a boarding fee, a license fee, (which was fine I was happy to get one) and an inoculation fee because since they kept him they had to “try” to protect him from contracting a disease there from the other dogs. Of course they didn’t have a rabies vaccine on hand which would have allowed me to just have him get an earlier dose and take him home that day. They didn’t even ask if I had other dogs at home or advise me on whether or not they could be at risk from whatever they vaccinated him against, without even telling me they would do before hand, this was after they had already given the vaccines to my dog. At the end of this experience his ransom ended up costing more than the original cost of adopting him in the 1st place.

Loved the lady that helped us adopt two Guinea pig for my nephews. She was very patient and answered all of their questions. She showed them how to hold and take care of their new fur babies.

I have never had a bad experience here. In my line of work I come across ALOT of animals in need and in danger. They havent always been able to take them but they have ALWAYS explained and walked me thru what to do. Nothing but the best here....
