My great grandmother cleaned cottages here 100 years ago! Needless to say, we have been dining here as a family for a very, verrrrry long time. The lodge is nothing short of amazing and is like stepping back in time to what the north woods was and should be. The food is amazing and some of the best in the north woods. Service is great and the ambiance perfect. Covid has caused a shortage of workers and has effected most restaurants in the area. Even so, we continue to enjoy Voss’s. It is one of the few family owned GEMS that remain in the northwoods. I feel a few of the reviews here are off target. During the decades we have enjoyed Voss’s we have never experienced anything but great service and food.

We had not been to manitowish for 20 plus years, this was one of the only places that had stayed the same. Ruthie and her son were a joy to speak with. She had so many great stories of history. Had a great week.

We ate here on a Sunday evening with friends. We had reservations. When we arrived, we were ignored by the hostess. I heard her complaining to people in the waiting area. She finally acknowledged us and seated us. Our waiter was attentive. It did feel like it took a long time to get our food though. I got the feeling that the wait staff were working short. Food was well prepared and delicious.

What a 💎. Stopped for dinner but unfortunately they only had the bar open (covid unemployment at its worst, lack of staff) We sat at the bar for a drink and the bartender was friendly and informative of the area. The place has great history and located in a beautiful spot. I highly recommend and hopeful one day we get to eat dinner.

If I could have left 0 starts I would have. Been coming up north 1 week every year for 45 years. The lady running this place is very rude and not customer friendly. They WON'T take reservations a year in advance. We came there willing to spend $5,000. ( HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PLAN A VACATION IF YOU DONT TAKE RESERVATIONS)?? I wouldn't give this place a penny and would never recommend this place to anyone.Look around for different resort. Trust me there are way better ones that take reservations a year in advance and will treat you nice!

Voss' is a one-of-a-kind place which everyone should experience. It has been owned and operated by the same family for more than 100 years, and offers one of the last opportunities for visitors to experience what the Northwoods was like at the end of the 19th century. Furnished with authentic pieces from the late 1800s and early 1900s (many of which were used in the film Public Enemies with Johnny Depp) and table service is also authentic turn-of-the-20th-Century, Voss' is an authentic back-in-time experience. In the 20s and 30s, resorts like Voss' were patronized by gangsters from Chicago, and in the 40s and 50s, the growing middle class enjoyed the comfort of "housekeeping" cottages. Today only a few of these classic lodges survive, but remain a vital part of the history of Northern Wisconsin. Voss' Birchwood Lodge is nestled on a bay of Spider Lake, and had a key role in the shootout at nearby Little Bohemia Lodge when the FBI tried to capture John Dillinger. Diners enjoy spectacular lake views and sunsets along with excellent cuisine prepared by Chef Chris. It is an experience not to be missed.

My family and I have been coming here for years, the lodge is a step back in time with the best restaurant in town. Lots of history and family owned. Beautiful view, always my favorite place to go for a visit!

The bar overlooks the lake, which is really stunning at sunset, but the drinks weren't great. The bartender was nice but wasn't at the bar for most of the time. A nice location, but the overall experience needs work.

Service was great; the wait staff seemed to find the perfect time to appear and the food was amazing as well. If one nitpick I'd hav to say that the noodles were a bit short on sauce, but the food was still above average.

It's not fancy, but it's not trying to be. It's old, it's quirky, it's weird. But the location if really nice, and the prices can't be beat. If you're adventurous and don't mind an older place, there's a bit of charm to be found.

Never ever ever stay here. Checked in and left. Old dirty looking rooms. Smoke alarms hanging off the walls with wires everywhere. Reminded me of a scary movie!!
