As a fellow bird store owner, I was pretty disappointed to see these sweeties in such tiny, rusty cages. No toys, very little food, dirty water dishes. One bird to each tiny cage so they don't even have each other for company. I was even more disappointed to learn that many of them have lived their entire lives here, some as long as since 2017. I stopped in when I was out of town to grab some bird food for my own birds and I almost left right then. Food bins full of webbing from moths so I tried the bags. Prices were really crazy so I passed on those as well. Thought I would visit the birds, and when I'm telling you that I left this store in tears, I'm not exaggerating. The prices on the birds are so over the top they'll never sell them. As a result these poor things sit in these tiny cages and get no human interaction. My heart broke. Petworld you need to do better! You are why pet stores get a bad rap! Come on!

If you’re looking for variety in pet supplies, this is the place! I’m primarily an aquarist when it comes to pets, and they stock a lot of equipment from various brands. I haven’t bought a ton of fish here, but the ones that I have, are doing well! My daughters like coming to see the big tortoise they let tour the store for exercise. Nice variety of birds too! Not always the cleanest store, but it’s a pet store with that said.

For being labeled a "Warehouse" I was shocked with how little product they carried across the board. I specifically will speak on products for felines as I did not explore other animal supplies as diligently.I went in looking for their selection of litter mats (wanted one of those dual layer mats) and they only carried one litter mat which was one of those 8in circle mats you can get anywhere- even non-pet stores. The space is huge but they do not take advantage of the whole space. Everything on the shelves is very spread out because of the lack of product variety; this includes: food, toys, treats, and litter. In addition to the lack of product, everything is extremely overpriced! The prices are much higher than any other pet store (chain or local) in the area. These prices do not reflect the quality either- there was less variety of cat litter and food than Woodman's or other pet stores. If you're looking for more natural, speciality or refridgerator food, they did not appear to have a good selection at all.The small animal section was really sad. They had a very poor variety of cages. If you are shopping for a healthy sized cage for one or multiple rats, I suggest looking online because their selection was extremely limited. The live animal section was troubling as the cages were small rectangular fish tanks with very little objects for stimulation. The reptile/fish section looked okay but the koi pool was a small black pool with a hose in the middle with at least 10 large koi fish banging into each other because there was not enough room. The bird section by the register was also problematic. They had too many parakeets shoved into cages meant for one or two birds. In addition, the prices of the birds are far above other stores and so these birds never get bought and stay in this environment. The only redeeming quality of this store are the employees who are super friendly.

I have stopped in to Pet World over the years and never once have I ever had anything positive to say about the way the animals are cared for.Stopped by today and was again shocked by the poor conditions. They have way too many birds that are all extremely overpriced. Cape parrot was $7,000 and the sign said it was born at Pet World in 2014 and been there it's whole life. What an awful life that poor bird has had so far and the price is going to make it even harder for it to find a proper home. The entire small animal department smelled dirty. The rat cages were absolutely filthy and they had a poor diet with basically no enrichment. The water bottles were literally growing algae and were dirty. The rabbit cages reeked of urine. There was a chinchilla in a cage that had urine caked on the pans. All of the cages lacked enrichment.I came in right near close and they were "taking care of the animals". The worker had a disgusting jug filled with water and didn't seem to actually be cleaning anything. The tortoise unfortunately found its way to Pet World after their original tortoise died. The enclosure was severely lacking in enrichment and bedding depth. There was no water in sight and the food looked like fruity bird food. No greens or anything.

Good service good and old fashions. The waitress was keeping everything filled and prompt. One of those places where anything you order will be great! 🍸🍹🥃🍷🥗🍜🍝🥩🍗

Nice selection of cat, dog, fish, bird, reptile supplies. Friendly and reasonably knowledgeable staff. You can order some fish and aquatic plants through them. Overall a great pet store in the Madison area.

First time visiting one of these stores. Very impressed. If they don’t have it, you probably don’t need it. Clean and well organized.

I thought the prices were high for anyone who owns pets. Staff was friendly though. You need to make the food and such affordable to pet owners.

Went in today to look around and saw bags of dying fish allegedly brought in by a customer. They refused to take the dead fish out while acclimating the barely live fish. I questioned staff about it and they couldn’t care less. One was too busy doing paperwork and they were short staffed. I told the manager or who ever he was that I would contact corporate and he told me to go for it he was busy. I cannot support this lack of care for animals.

A little expensive but not too bad. Not alot of natural/heathly choices for snack wise lots of raw hide which isnt good for them. Wasn't impressed by the toy section. Lots of selection of dog/cat food tho. Probably won't ever return here might try petco but everyone has their preferences.

An excellent pet superstore! I was quite impressed. You can get anything for a pet here at a fair price. You can also adopt a few different kinds of pets here. This place is huge. They have everything you can possibly think of.

I think the pictures say it all. This place is DISGUSTING and the animals are in unfit enclosures. Rabbits can't live like that even temporarily and the ferrit cage is unacceptable!! You have enough staff to be cleaning this stuff. If you can't care for the animals then don't sell them. you're apart of the problem.

I bought my sweet girls from Pet World back in August-September 2019. They were both originally considered 'feeder rats' so I was hesitant to adopt them. I'd done a lot of research about healthy, well tempered rats coming from breeders so I knew adopting from the pet store would be taking a risk, but I cannot imagine sweeter pets even coming from a breeder. I have a dumbo rat and fancy rat that are constantly giving kisses and finger hugs. They LOVE people and are so smart and friendly. Both of my girls were exceptionally easy to litter train and teach tricks to. They are so well tempered that pet store employees and vet staff tell me they are the best behaved rats they've met.

Tons of cute birds, fish, and little furry critters. Really clean. Worth going in just to look around and see all the animals.

I adopted a rabbit with fur mites from here without knowing he had them. 2 days from owning him I took him to the vet so they could tell me he’s most definitely had fur mites for a while because his skin was looking terrible. The best they could do was refund me what I payed for the bunny even tho it cost me nearly $300 to get him seen and treated. If you want an unhealthy animal shop here. ( I kept the bunny because I wasn’t returning him to a place like that)

This is animal abuse. Don't shop here unless you want to support the abuse of the animals they sell. I wish i had more pictures but EVERYTHING is always absolutely disgusting, almost none of the animals have proper enclosures, food or entertainment. WHO PUTS RABBITS IN A FISH TANK!?? Sometimes there's multiple to one tank which isn't enough room for even temporary placement. Also the food in the bowl is way too much and not the right food they should be eating, plastic bird toys aren't good for rabbits because they could eat the plastic, the bottom should have a mat or something not slippery, and they just shouldn't be in a fish tank or sold in stores at all. Every time I've gone here the birds are filthy and overcrowded and multiple times haven't had water while i was there. The fish tanks are absolutely disgusting. I stopped shopping here once i saw the abuse because i don't want to support it and everyone else should do the same.

This place is a disgrace to animals! The Tortise that they have is so stressed, a little bit of dirty sand, no water, food, and all he did was pace back and forth. Told cashier, he could of cared less. Actually calling Animal welfare, this place needs to be shut down.

This place is extremely rude. We walked in and asked what's the best container for mice and the front desk lady was yelling at us that we're tying to kill animals. Never coming back here again.

Huge diversity of pets. Seems to have a nice $10 dog washing room complete with all necessary supplies and a large crate. They have lots of fish, lizards, geckos, tortoises and turtles, birds, small mammals, etc. We didn't see dogs or cats, but that wasn't what we were looking for, so they may have had them. They do sell plenty of cat and dog food.

Majority of the fish are riddled with parasites and disease. Camallanus worms galore as seen in this ram.

Very helpful. Knowledgeable staff. The animals look happy and well cared for. We just got a rescue cockatiel, and needed perches, food, and toys.

This Pet World is great they are very helpful and it is so cool to see what animals they have out on each day. For example every time they have birds by the check-out and the last time I was there they had their tortoise walking around the store. It was a really cool experience. I would go here and shop here more often, but they do not have a wide selection of Reptile supplies.

THEY HAVE A TORTOISE WHO GOES ON WALKS AROUND THE STORE but it is a chain pet store so that takes a star off for being immoral.

Decent selection on most products, passed a cute parrot, rabbits and hutch. But, no chameleon, or great selection of dog spray.

This place used to be great, but I won’t shop here anymore. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, but they don’t have enough employees to care for the animals, help customers, run the cash registers, etc. The fish section needs a major upgrade, and there are often sick or dead fish in most of the tanks. I used to drive up from Janesville to stock my fish tanks, but I’ve been disappointed and left without purchasing anything on the last several visits.

I went in to buy two birds and was lied to about the waiver they had me sign, they stated they needed my information in case they needed to call me and made no effort to tell me what the birds' needs were. It turns out one of the birds (hopefully not the other one as well) was terribly ill--it pooped green-- and dropped dead within a few days in an aviary. It had perfect access to food, water and toys. I'm hoping whatever it had wasn't infectious as I have other birds of whom have been perfectly well for years and years under my care. This store will not reimburse me in any way due to it's technicalities. This experience is absolutely horrible.
