I stopped at the ACE on Cottage Grove Road to get a piece of glass for a shadow box. The box itself was broken and had been glued and stapled many times. The manager took it upon himself to create a brand new display case. He did this out of the kindness of his heart. I can’t thank him enough. This box has a special meaning for me and my family. It was my Dads medals from the time he was in the Navy aboard the USS Indianapolis.

This store is very convenient for me and I was happy when we got our hardware store back. For the most part I still feel that way. However the customer service (weekends ) at the check out would almost be enough for me not to return. You should always be made to feel like your business is appreciated. When you are not greeted, thanked or spoken to at all you sure don’t feel that way. We’ve been small business owners and we’ve always stressed being friendly to customers. I realize some of these clerks are pretty young and new at customer service but it’s such a little thing to say “hi, are ya doing, thanks for coming in”. They are often the only encounter a customer has with the business. I write this because as an owner I’d want to know that I had some improving to do.

Wonderful selection of tools and house supplies. Very wheelchair friendly, for my power wheelchair. The staff are amazing, answering all my questions, and helping my wife when a medical crisis occurred on-site.

I needed a receipt from a year-and-a-half ago because the original was too blurry for the manufacturer to honor our warranty. Called this morning and encountered very helpful and persistent staff that were able to get me what I needed after some thoughtful troubleshooting.Thanks Ace!

The staff here are exceptional. I like hardware stores, but I genuinely appreciate and enjoy errands at this Ace because the employees are great. They have a lovely selection. I can't believe this store is closing; a huge loss for our neighborhood and it seems unjust; everyone who works there is doing such great work - they should be rewarded for their work rather than laid off.

Will not spend another dime at this location. Customer service on nights and weekends is poor at best. Last 5 times there I was not asked if I was a Rewards member. Just returned from this location, had an employee lock the door as I approached and just pointed to the hours decal on the door. I figured I must have missed the closing time by 10 or so minutes. Nope, look at my watch 8:01.

The staff at this location nails-it, every time. On most visits, I can't make it through the store without being asked, "can I help you find something", at least twice. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful people!On the weekends, they tend to be busy -- so you may have to wait a few minutes for help. But, it's worth the wait.

I go here all the time. It's up the street from my house. I've always had a good experience except this one time which is why they lost 2 stars from me. So, the story is, I went in looking for a specific power tool. They had one left but it was the demonstration /floor model that everyone had been poking and playing with. The manager was the one helping me and was going to box up the demo model to sell me. I asked if there was a discount because it was the floor model and he said "no." I've never had that before at any store, ever. Even once at farm and fleet they had something where the box was damaged and they offered me 15% off, I didn't even have to ask. Anyway, the manager refused and was super rude about it. So, I went to a different store and bought an unmolested item at the same price he was trying to sell me a demo model for. Anyway, everyone who works there is really nice and friendly and helpful, except that manager. That manager guy is a jagoff.

I always enjoy my visits here. Employees are very knowledgeable. I ALWAYS get a Sprecher's rootbeer when I stop. In the summer a few times I stopped just for the Sprecher Rootbeer.

Everyone here is helpful and knowledgeable, with great problem-solving abilities. One guy even helped demonstrate to my wife how to use her new fishing pole by tying some nuts and washers to the end of the line and casting in the parking lot. They're great to have in the neighborhood.

Really nice hanging baskets, quite large and healthy. Buy them at Ace every spring. Nice limited variety of perennials , annuals and herbs. Many other gardening supplies available.Friendly and helpful employees.

Fine place to go if you don't mind spending 15-20% extra for the convenience of avoiding a big box. They usually have what I need, but it's hit or miss as to whether I pony up the $. Nice size store with easy parking and a good selection.

Had a bad experience with either their worst or most over achieving employee Nathan today when renting an overpriced carpet cleaner. I understand there was a miniscule amount of grit and a couple hairs, but learn customer service bud.He is the reason I am bothering to review this place, which is over priced, out of date, and no where near as helpful as Northside True Value. It's convenient to my house, but will probably avoid even more now.

I have been to this Ace a before so I went back to purchase paint on Sat. 6/21/13 (early afternoon) as they carry a brand I like. At first the salesman was nice but something changed his attitude. He mixed the paint for me, opened the can and before I could say anything, he rather snidely said, "It will darken when it dries." I knew that & had not said anything to warrant him saying that. In the past, they put a stroke of the paint on the stir stick & let it dry, for a color check by the way. That was always appreciated. Then when he handed me the can (a quart only), before I even had a grip on it, he let go so it fell to the floor with the lid slightly ajar. Rather than apologize he seemed to act like it was my fault. He picked it up, pounded the lid back on securely and looked agitated. I even had to ask for a towel to wipe my hand of the spilled paint. The customer service from this man was poor.

It's a shame they are closing the store, they had a good mix of product at reasonable prices and had excellent service. Everything is 22% off with other items 50% or more. Starting to get a little picked over but still plenty of deals to be had with patio sets, grill accessories, lawn and garden tools and hardware.
