This store has completely went down hill from when they opened. It’s the closest grocery store but I will NOT be coming back until Management changes. Rude customer service that don’t want to be bothered even the Manager has a horrible Attitude, he is extremely rude and knows he can do whatever he wants, and if you have a problem he would rather wait for you to leave than come and talk to you. The cashiers are the nicest employees in the store. VERY disappointing because the store itself is amazing, always stocked and clean it’s just the management with bad attitudes.

Stay away from the bakery. Tried the morning buns and they tasted very wrong. I wasn't expecting the best morning bun ever, but this tasted like bad/expired ingredients were used. The donuts are usually disappointing. Often the shelves are empty or there's only a couple choices and nothing is labeled so if you don't want a surprise filling, best to just not bother. I tried a cake donut the one day they randomly had them, and again just tasted off. I never buy the muffins because the first ingredient in all of them is sugar.

Metro Market is a standard grocery with a really nice fresh made section. Highly recommend if you are looking for premade heat and serve food for quick easy meals you give this place a try. They prepare new meals daily and have a large selection from ribs, to fish, to meatloaf, to wings...pasta...so much more.

Produce is rarely restocked on time after shelves get emptied and the customer service is horrible. The staff looks like they're not even interested in doing their job. Recently, they got rid of hand baskets which is a huge inconvenience if you're only shopping for around 5-10 items.

Metro used to be my bakery go to…. I don’t know if they changed vendors or if production costs have increased exponentially but the donuts are awful, on the best day. You get 2 options, vanilla hockey puck or chocolate. So overly fried and tasteless I should be paid to take them away. I used to love the selection and the great care taken in making them, now it’s literally 2 options, long John/ring hockey puck or a greasy heavy handed frosted maybe cinnamon donut. Boooo! Metro please find a new vendor for your baked goods.

It's an ok store. I seems fancier than Pick n Save due to the extra hot food choices and such. But wow, the aisles are skinny! It's hard enough getting 2 cart widths through at it is, but now they started adding extra displays in the aisles so you're only going to fit one cart down each aisle. The sales are also confusing. Sometimes you have to buy in exact multiples of 5, sometimes it's just a MINIMUM of 5; sometimes with a digital coupon and sometimes just the loyalty card. Oof! I like sales but it's just way too complex! Why can't you keep it simple and just let each item have it's own sale price like Aldi? No minimums, no loyalty card, no digital app, etc.

I really like this place. Everything is a decent price. I called today because I was missing 13 dollars worth of items and they gave me 25 off for the inconvenience. All the employees I have interacted with here are super nice. I like alot better than piggly wiggly.

I use to love this store but it has reallygone downhill. I decided to try it one more time today. Shelves in bakery and meat were as bare as they were last time. All bread items in the bakery were completely over baked. Buns are not supposed to be dark brown! I had trouble getting into my digital coupons and the girl in customer service that was called over to help was unfriendly and rude, long hair and glasses. Customer Service means to help customers. Sorry that I inconvenienced you! I hope the managers read these reviews and bring the store back to what it once was!

It’s been over a year, and I am always disappointed when I go. Shelves are always bare — the popular veggies are always gone, and the quality isn’t great. Even worse, they never have staff employed at the checkout stations. You are stuck in the self-checkouts because there are never staff to assist when the self-checkout machines freeze up. I always hope it gets better, but it hasn’t.

Great store. Good produce, good bakery. Great cheese market. Small enough it doesn't take an hour to get the milk...

This place has continually gone downhill since opening. Three remodels have done nothing but make it worse as the selection of items has actually decreased, and it's constantly out of stock on the items they do stock. Currently, half the self checkouts are closed (not broken, just closed), and only one cashier. The picture is the line I'm currently standing in to wait for self-checkout.

One of the best grocery shopping experience I've had. Great selection for just about everything, high quality products, and great, friendly service. Oh, and they have a cocktail bar to make your shopping experience extra special!

Has very good deli, also large liquor and wine selection. Great salad bar and hot food service. Coffee barista and Italian desserts are excellent.

Employees don't ever answer the phone and when they do they hang up, and even hang up when they don't have an answer instead of being helpful and finding it out. Super rude

I get all my groceries here. Its a good enough place to go. I'd complain about the prices but that is an issue everywhere right now. If I'm going to pay high prices anyway then it might as well be here.

I'm okay with most of the shopping and selection, but the digital coupon thing they've been pushing more and more is one of the most infuriating shopping experiences on memory.I'm already on their loyalty card, so when I see a sale item I assume I'm good to go, but SOMETIMES there's little fine print that I have to log into their wifi because there's no phone service in the building, open their app, and scan some digital coupon to actually get the deal.If you miss that fine print, you won't discover it until you're already paying because the register doesn't apply discounts until then, and nowhere does it say the price without the deal. Hope you're good at guessing! If you're in a hurry shopping, you just can't TRUST any of the sales, and it feels like a giant gotcha when your options are to wait in line for 10 mins at customer service to return your item, or just accept that they got you good for a few bucks.

THE SUSHI IS DELICIOUS. My boyfriend and I absolutely love sushi but can’t afford to get it from restaurants all the time. We get it from metro every Monday as they have a deal …$5 rolls. They are so good. The Basic rolls but regardless they are delicious. So shout out to the sushi guy there. He’s always so nice and says hi and asks if we ever need help with anything. Highly recommend!!!

This place has been steadily going downhill since Kroger took over. The bar, fun events, fresh selections have nearly disappeared. Today I grabbed an onion and was surprised to find it wet from rotting on the underside. This happened to a garlic last week too but found out after I peeled it at home. Shame to see a great place suck now.

Shop at the Metro Market if you want to serve as one of their employees. There will only be one active cashier even during the busiest of times. Long waits, no staff. Who wants to work after work for a business that does not hire employees to work. Screw this place.

EDIT: See updates at the bottom of this review for my current thoughts (they have changed). I also attached pictures of the typical produce quality at Metro Market (which is not great).I love this store. It's not perfect, but there is so much to like about it. People kept telling me, "Try Woodman's! So much cheaper!" ... well, I gave Woodman's a shot, and I can tell you that the Metro Market shopping experience blows it out of the water. This store is clean, modern, and spacious. Things are laid out very logically and easy to find. It does tend to be staffed by high-school aged kids, but they have all been professional in my experience.Where I think Metro Market could improve is training of their staff. Twice now, I've found defective products on the shelves. One had a broken seal and was full of visible mold. How did the person stocking shelves not notice this?Other than that, I do find the quality of the produce to be subpar. Things like bell peppers are almost always soft and wrinkly. For the prices they charge (and the image of quality they try to project).. Metro Market really needs to step up their produce quality.Overall though, this is my favorite place to buy groceries in Madison. Yes, it's more expensive... but I think it deserves credit for what it has to offer.Edit 12/3I'm dropping my review to 3 stars because of the consistently poor quality of produce at Metro Market. Yesterday I picked up a yellow onion and navel orange. The onion was bad (stringy? Not sure how to describe) and the orange had black rot inside of it. I've also had multiple times where I purchased a Mexican Coke and they tasted "off", or purchased mixed greens that were already rotten/slimy. I don't know what's up with Metro Market, but I've had more issues with quality control at this store than any other grocery store I've been to.Additionally, this store is frequently out of stock of something I'm looking for. I shop here primarily for convenience now. I love the cleanliness and spaciousness inside the store, but I'm seriously considering getting fresh produce elsewhere. Metro Market needs to step up the quality.Edit 02/3Metro Market is "rearranging" things for seemingly no reason. Looks like they're trying to cram more shelves near the dairy aisles, making it feel more claustrophobic. The "Taste of the World" section is being taken over by .. Packers t-shirts and other stuff no one wants to buy at a grocery store?I was really disappointed to find that they aren't selling the local Wisconsin eggs from New Century Farm anymore. I want more local items, not less! Unfortunately, the Kroger-ification of this store is really removing everything that made it special, and I feel like it's rapidly becoming "just another grocery store".Maybe I'm a tough critic, but I feel like I'll start shopping elsewhere. Though I do really like the gas savings program they recently implemented/started advertising.Edit 02/07The Taste of the Worlds section has now been completely removed. Metro Market moved almost every product to a different aisle - very few things are in the same place they were. They kept the shelves between the meat and dairy sections, which makes the area feel very claustrophobic.I'm very disappointed with these recent changes. I spoke with an employee who told me that Kroger is trying to make Metro Market have a similar layout to Copps and Pick n' Save - to make Metro Market "more friendly to customers". If you ask me, this is the wrong approach.Maybe I will warm up to the changes over time, but given that I've had consistently poor experiences with produce quality, consistently poor experiences with product availability (products I want being sold out), these changes are close to being enough to push me to shop elsewhere.

I want to give a shout out to Phil and James for the great service I received while having to pick up my orders due to my hip surgery. The orders were filled with care. I am very thankful for this service!

This store has steadily gone further and further downhill since the Kroger takeover. Fewer cashiers and fewer self checkouts open leading to increasingly long lines, items consistently (almost every trip) ringing up higher than the marked price, deli closes at seemingly random times each day resulting in wasted trips. I never thought I’d say this, but I miss Roundy’s.

The bakery is virtually nonexistent. Shelves were empty this morning. The few items I have purchased recently were stale and tasteless. Quality of this store has gone way down since joining Kroger.

Click list has given me expired stuff, wrong stuff, missing stuff. They never have items in stock, especially soda. Replacements are terrible. If there's a deal for four sodas for a certain amount of money, they won't have three out of the four and then you don't get the deal. Happens all the time. They didn't have any of the soda that I wanted and when I called to cancel the guy was super rude. I used to order curbside all the time, never again.

Good market. Fruits and vegetables are fresh. They make quite a few things inside store and all are great like chocolates, freshly squeezed orange juice, cakes, muffins, breads, smoothies and coffee. They also have great selection of seafood and cheese. They will grill fish etc for you and there is a little dining area for eating. Their flower section is pretty good too. Do sign up for their reward system, little bit of work but do get you some discounts. in house which is great

I called the bakery for 12 cupcakes. No decorations, just plain whipped topping. Not even a color and was told “no, we need a 48 hour notice “, now mind you, I have bought cupcakes from Metro Market cupcakes for every birthday and special occasion since they opened and the only time I needed to give an advance notice was for cupcake cakes (where they’re designed like something). I will never shop the store again for anything in the future.

Stopped in today for weekly grocery run and there’s one checkout lane open and of course therefore a line backed up halfway down the isle. Eventually what I assume is a manager steps out all huffy and irritated that apparently people are shopping at his store today and somewhat rudely directs me to a closed express checkout lane to cash out my 80 dollars worth of food. Cashier said two words throughout the whole process and kinda just looked down the whole time, usually the workers here are pretty friendly so something seems off about that. Normally I wouldn’t care but as a manager you can step in and start doing something to help when it gets busy rather than stand there and watch your understaffed store take fire. Want more employees? Pay them better. You can afford it with these prices you charge. Also noticed quite a bit of employees just standing around up front just kinda looking lost. This guy shouldn’t be running shifts…wish I would have looked at his name tag. On my way out I saw him standing around with a clipboard chatting with another manager. Too many chiefs not enough Indians perhaps.
