Being new to Madison I was thrilled to find a Fear Free certified vet! I had read about the program years ago and implemented it in a dog business I’d owned, but never found a Fear Free certified vet for my own pets. It was all that I had imagined and more! It’s not just a sticker in the window, it really is a different level of care that is very comforting, and not only for the care of my pets but for me as well. The excellent communication and very detailed reports paired with lower costs than my previous vets has me so impressed every time I go. Also, it’s not just another job for the staff, it’s obvious they’re passionate about what they do and how they do it. I feel so lucky to have Four Lakes as my new Vet, Thank you!

I am a new client, 4 lakes was recommended to me for my cat. I absolutely loved the vet, the vet assistant, and their reception staff. They were all wonderful, great with my nervous animal, and I felt very comfortable speaking with them. They listened throughly to the details I gave and provided solutions or explanations to all the things I brought up. And the pricing was really really good. I actually wish that my doctors were as good at caring for humans as these ladies are at caring for animals. I would give 10 stars out of 5 if I could!

My dog has been going here for seven years for all annual checkups, health concerns, and even two surgeries. Dr. Scarlett has been wonderful, and even though my dog has had a handful of health challenges, the vet's office was one of his favorite places to go...About two years ago, the clinic began to expand, and things have changed. Twice now, we've been scheduled with unfamiliar vets (even when I asked for Dr. Scarlett), and we haven't known who we were seeing until they walked in the door.Most recently, we were seen by newer vet who was visibly more rushed, nervous, and misattuned; they had trouble doing a vaccine after they caused pain on the first attempt, and they weren't able to draw blood because my dog became afraid of the pain. The vet said my dog must have, "made negative associations with the vet," and prescribed sedatives for me to administer before coming back in for a separate blood draw appointment next week with a vet tech.For years, my dog has had zero issues getting through appointments, vaccines, and blood draws. Yesterday, a total stranger prescribed him sedatives. It just doesn't feel right.

I contacted the clinic to see Dr. McClanahan, their behaviorist, for my fearful dog. They got me in quickly and Dr. McClanahan gave us a lot of time and attention during our behavioral consultation. I appreciated how she asked questions and listened to what I said. At the end, she prescribed a medication and told me that I'd have to communicate about how my dog responded so we could make adjustments. I have been communicating with her for several weeks following up and getting advice as we dial in the appropriate treatment. Dr. McClanahan and the entire staff is helpful and prompt in their responses. I'm very grateful to them for helping me make my dog more comfortable. I'm truly grateful that they are continuing to provide support via email as we make adjustments. The initial consultation was expensive, but I think it was worth it for my dog to have the attention and care she needed from a veterinarian with advanced training, and I feel like we are valued at the clinic.

This place is the oasis I've been looking for for my nervous dog. If you have a dog who really struggles or is reactive, just come here instead of vet hopping for years like I did. There is a vet behaviorist completing her residency here. There is no waiting in a waiting room. You can wait in your car and they'll make sure no other clients are there when you come in. No dogs on flexis rushing each other. The staff didn't reach toward my dog or try to lure her toward them with treats or do other "friendly" things that many nervous dogs actually find terrifying. They will actually sedate. We had the least amount of stress at a visit in years because of it. The staff respect your wishes and listen to your concerns.

My mom took my dog in, and the vet would not listen to anything I was saying. Told them my dog was not eating and they just told me to feed him a pill when he was refusing any and all types of food. They put my dog in more visible stress while aspirating his neck without my permission. Also diagnosed my dog with pneumonia using an X-ray when they could’ve just used a stethoscope, and in turn drove up the bill. This vet stressed my dog out so much more than they should have, and now…..the dog is no longer with us.

I called to get my Bulldog seen for an eye infection. Over the weekend his eye became goopy and swelled. I called as soon as 4 Lakes opened on a Monday morning. They said they couldn’t see Doug because he isn’t a patient. I would have to wait a month or take him to the Emergency Vet. I take my other dogs to 4 Lakes. I have 3. I am in the computer system as a client. I just haven’t taken my Bulldog there since I haven’t had him long. So my Bulldog is not a client? I didn’t realize the actual dog is the client snd not the owner of the dog. I don’t understand how a clinic doubles in size but can’t fit in an existing clients dog with an eye infection because he has not been seen by them. This is the second time something like this has happened since the new and bigger clinic.I called Dr. Sondels Veterinarian Clinic right after I hung up the phone. Even though Dr. Sondel had a full schedule Doug was squeezed in for two hours later.

I've been taking my cats here for over 6 years and I recommend them to everyone I know who has pets. Dr. Scarlett is so compassionate and knowledgeable. She really listens to concerns, and takes the time to thoroughly explain and answer questions, both in person and through follow up emails. All of the vet techs are so adept, kind, and gentle with the animals, and everyone really makes you feel like they truly care about every animal they see. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My cat has been fearful of going to the vet's office after he had an emergency situation in 2016. Normally, going to the vet was an ordeal with him hissing at the vet techs.Not at Four Lakes! The staff were so kind to my cat and me, and they treated him with the utmost care and were very gentle with him. Dr. Scarlett was absolutely wonderful and answered my questions and concerns about my cat's health.I would definitely recommend them, and plan on taking my little guy back for his annual appointment next year.

We have really loved our experience at Four Lakes-they were recommended to us by a friend. My dog, Arlo, has quite a bit of anxiety around exams, large noises, etc. At other vets we had been to, I didn't feel they really tried to work with us to help make him comfortable. This has not been the case here, all of the staff has gone above and beyond to help minimize his anxiety at the vet. Each time he comes, I note that he is doing better and better-just with the few extra minutes the staff provides. I love the fact he isn't stressed out in the waiting area, toys are provided in the rooms, all helps for a smooth experience. We never feel rushed during our appointments. The follow up from the veterinary staff has always been very timely and thorough. We are very comfortable with our care here and would recommend to anyone looking for a new vet!

We simply cannot say enough wonderful things about Four Lakes! We brought our puppy home on a Saturday, and as soon as we got her home and had a chance to play with her, we noticed that something was very wrong with her back left foot - she was walking on top of it as it dragged behind her. I emailed Four Lakes with pictures and videos, and Dr. Scarlett responded back almost immediately to reassure us that it wasn't something we needed to rush her into the hospital for and that she could get us in right away as soon as the clinic opened the next week day. Dr. Scarlett spent time researching and reaching out to others in the field to try to solve this mysterious problem. As a teacher, I greatly valued her team approach to helping our puppy get the best possible care as quickly as possible. She referred us to UW Neurology, where the specialists were able to eventually get to the bottom of the problem. During our time waiting for our appointment with Neurology, Dr. Scarlett and all of the staff so sweetly and patiently answered my millions of questions and helped calm my nerves. Our puppy is now walking correctly on her foot and is healthy as can be! This same level of care and kindness hasn't wavered since our first experience with Four Lakes, where Mabel has now been a patient for almost two years. I was very anxious about her getting spayed, and the staff so sweetly called throughout the morning to give me updates on how she was doing, which I can't even begin to express how much that meant to me. We are so very fortunate to have Mabel under the care of Dr. Scarlett and the Four Lakes staff. Every time we enter the clinic, Mabel is greeted by name and loving hugs and pets. We simply couldn't imagine a clinic that feels more like home!

I've been taking my dog Teddy here for over three years. The doctors and techs are all wonderful and always extremely responsive to appointments. I’ve been to a few vet clinics over the years with my felines. Both of my ladies are seniors, and one of my fur babies has CKD. Within the last two years, my Onyx’s values were on a slow decline and her condition was needing heavier management. Previous clinics weren’t as knowledgeable in suggesting alternatives to assisting Onyx with her growing complications until I found Four Lakes. Not only is Dr. McClanahan and her CVT team incredibly competent in providing more thorough care, they are undeniably kind and loving of their fur patients. Onyx’s renal values unexpectedly took a turn for the worst during a health crisis and moved to Stage 4 in October of this year. Dr. McClanahan and her team acted quickly with an aggressive treatment regiment to give Onyx a fighting chance. After a couple of days in clinic and monitored home treatment, Onyx’s values stabilized and they were able to restore her to Stage 2. Post making it through the crisis, Onyx has been doing well with her recommended treatment regimen and happily living her kitty life as normal again. I can’t thank them enough for giving me more time with her and ensuring she has a quality of life that is healthier for her, too. So grateful to have found Four Lakes. I won’t go anywhere else.

The Four Lakes team always make you feel like your pet is their immediate priority. They have performed multiple surgeries on my dogs - each time they provide excellent care and follow up to make sure the pups are on the mend. Dear Dr. Scarlett & Crew:Ann & I moved here in mid-July of 2019 with our loving dog, Servo. We knew she was getting old because we got her from a pound in California in 2009, and they had no idea just how old she was then. However, we were dismayed to find her having so many problems soon after we moved—arthritis, kidney failure, infections, blood issues and more. She is gone now, and we have many memories of happy years.I also have many positive memories of everyone in your office. Each and every person exhibited that very rare quality of professionalism and compassion. If a building could maintain vibrations, then your office would glow like a giant firefly. I have been very impressed at how much you gave us in your understanding and generosity of support. When we would call or email with a concern, Dr. Scarlett responded quickly, with the expert knowledge and politeness that we experienced in person. Every person answering the phone or taking care of curb-side customers has been equally positive and responsible. This week, when we knew that Servo was in too much pain and with multiple chronic problems, and so it was time to release her, the staff was so sensitive that the entire process was one of solemn goodbyes. And it felt genuine. Thank you.

Lori Scarlett and her staff have exceeded our expectations through this first year we've had our puppy. They are readily available (especially via email) for any questions and concerns, and they are extremely helpful and accommodating with their hours/scheduling.Our English Cocker puppy also was spayed at Four Lakes and I was extremely impressed with how well she healed; you barely know she had the surgery because the stitches were done internally, and her skin was sealed with a type of glue. This impressed me because my previous dog had definite scarring and bumps left from after her surgery.Finally - they are very good at following up with scheduling for vaccinations and appointments which is helpful in trying to keep up with everything in life. It has really benefited with her help and made things so much easier.We plan to continue to take our dog to Four Lakes well into her adulthood and appreciate their helpfulness, courtesy and professionalism. Their prices are also very reasonable and competitive compared to other clinics that I have researched/looked into. You'll definitely be happy with your decision to take your pet to Dr. Lori and her staff.

Both my dog and I recommend Four Lakes! Niner enjoys his vet visits and the staff is excellent. Even through humans are unable to go inside (right now because off Covid) for appointments, the doctors get on the phone so you still get the information that you would get if you were inside and have the opportunity to ask any questions. We rescued a yorkie in February of 2020- the previous owner had taken all her dogs to four lakes, so I stuck with them. We have another dog, a teddy bear that is my LIFE. We’ve moved and her vet is quite a drive, especially for a emergency situation. I emailed four lakes Sunday night and Monday morning with a huge concern about my Teddy Bear. I never received a response so I called. First of all, they charge extra for same day appointments when you’re “fit in”, second, I was asked why I didn’t take tootsie to her old vet? We MOVED!!! and... I’d like to have both my dogs at the same vet- I was told to take her to a ER vet today, couldn’t get her in.....??????!!!!!!!!!! I’m in tears I’m so worried about my girl, at work on top of it. I called another vet whom I’ve NEVER seen and was given a 11am slot. With no emergency charge either! No records needed immediately, just to deal with her eyes. Four lakes has lost a customer who’s spent a lot of money in the last 11/2 years. Very unprofessional, very disheartening to say the least.
