Been with MT Zion and started my dogs allergy care with Dr. Mark Nelson. He was so kind, spent time with my dog and was so nurturing before taking any samples of his skin, or giving him any shots. Always did it while I was in the room. One appointment I walk into Dr. Kristin Nelson. Who was immediately standoffish with my dog. She didn’t pet him, didn’t soothe him in anyway, and I felt immediately not right. My dog is sensitive and worrisome. Upon asking for my original doctor she was rude and offended although I asked so nicely and was clearly scared to even ask about my original vet. The thing is my dogs allergies have been so complicated and he and myself felt more comfortable with the same doctor working on his case. I can tell when my dog isn’t comfortable. That being said, after this incident, I was only met with Quicken appointments, shorter conversations and less of a personal relationship. I have been told different things over the phone, but none of them seem to be on record- which also baffles me. The last time my dog received care they did everything out of the room and I could hear my dog screaming down the hallway and although they reassured me everything was fine they have never done this before. The last straw was a month ago I was told I could ask for a refill before January before taking my dog in for another exam and he is due for an exam in January but then also an August because the timing of the shots stood in line up. (Never happened before… double the appointments in a year?) then when I called back to make the order that conversation wasn’t in any notes or on any record so I was told to bring my dog in right then and there for a check up before getting a refill on a prescription that’s not even a year old. Cash grab. Never again will I bring my dog here or recommend this place. Clearly having only 2 doctors working there and then being married or related is a huge conflict of interest. Unprofessional- and I hold a strong dislike to Dr Kristin who I think is the reason my relationship with my vet care changed.

My baby was wiped out after his yearly well puppy visit and vaccines and labs and nail clipping. They did a good job as usual. He doesn't enjoy going lol it is necessary tho! We been here for many years. No complaints. Awesome med tech and nice reception staff

High vet turnover means you tend to get someone who's either incompetent or who tries to severely price gouge. Or they make you feel stupid for having a concern about your pet.Incompetent vet dismissed what I now understand are obviously significant symptoms which lead to delayed diagnosis... which lead to death. Another vet repeatedly price gouged "to rule out other possible illnesses" knowing the dog was terminally ill. And the process of having the dog put down didn't go well either. This wasn't a very old dog and a simple blood test would have lead to a diagnosis early enough to treat the illness. Maybe partly my fault for not insisting on a blood test, but I mistakenly trusted the incompetent vet's opinion.Much happier at another vet clinic now for my other animals. Don't make the mistake I did of trusting Mt Zion, because that can lead to premature death more than it would at another clinic.

I've been taking my dogs to this vet for years. I trusted them with keeping my dogs healthy just to get let down over and over. Two of my dogs have bad skin allergy issues. Both cases they just send the dog home with steroids or other drugs that never solve the issue. After bringing one of my dogs in for a severe reaction he was having, they gave him an injection and said "it might work." After paying a hefty bill and going home, I watched him get worse and worse. They offered the option of a skin biopsy and that was it. I then took him to another vet in Janesville and got the help we needed. They drew blood and within two weeks, we had answers as to his condition. No painful biopsy, no steroids, no random injections that might work, and no more flare ups. Now he's a happy and healthy dog.

I originally brought my dog in to Mt. Zion because she was having issues with regurgitation, walking, jumping and was generally lethargic. I had been working with Dr. Kristin Nelson for a few weeks, and she was able to conduct a series of tests to identify the condition as myaesthenia gravis - we had my dog on antibiotics while I waited over two weeks to receive the prescription from the pharmacy - meanwhile, my dog's condition continued to slowly worsen. Worried that my dog had started to get to the point that she would need immediate care, I called and tried to speak with Dr. Kristin Nelson. Since her schedule was full that day, and due to the fact that she would be out the next week on vacation, asked if it would be possible for me to bring my dog in at the end of the day after her last scheduled appointment for 10-15 minutes, and was told this was not possible. I called multiple times during the day, stressing the necessity that I speak with Dr. Nelson ASAP, as she understood my dog's condition intimately (as we had been working on this for the past several weeks now) - I got the feeling that the receptionist found me difficult to deal with, and told me that if I were that worried about my dog, I should take her to the emergency clinic. Following this, my dog's care was switched over to Dr. Mark Nelson, (which I did not realize until the next time I came in for a vet appointment). We continued antibiotics and her new medication, and her condition did not seem to improve. I set up appointments every other week with Dr. Mark Nelson, and I would call him every Friday to provide him updates. Throughout this time, her condition did not seem to notably improve - a sentiment I continued to stress during bi-weekly appointments and phone calls. Last Friday I called Dr. Mark Nelson, and described a list of my dog's current conditions which, at this point, included: extreme lethargy, not eating/drinking, dehydration, shortness of breath, regurgitation, etc. He seemed unconcerned, and told me to continue on the current medication (which at this point did not include antibiotics, since we had run out earlier that week), and monitor her until her upcoming appointment the following Friday. Later that evening, I was concerned to the point where I took my dog to the emergency clinic in Madison - she was put on oxygen, and we ended up having to put her down the next morning...During the period of 'care' provided by Mt. Zion animal clinic, there were multiple occasions where I had to request additional antibiotics when my dog ran out, and neither Dr. were willing to stay past their last appointment time of the day, even for 10-15 mins, considering the nature of the circumstances, or as a personal favor - Keep in mind that I spent upwards of $2k over this period of 6-8 weeks - this is in addition to the 1.5k I ended up spending for urgent care visit (as her condition had been allowed to progress to the point where this was necessary, over the prior 6-8 weeks). It was also up to me to proactively call each Friday to try and follow-up/request the vet call me back to provide updates, otherwise they would not contact me to check-in.Given my experience, I would suggest that the clinic take on less patients so that they are able to provide better individual care/ attention to the animals they provide services for, and re-evaluate the true reason why they entered into this field in the first place.I will never go to Mt. Zion animal clinic again, and sincerely and genuinely wish that I had originally taken my dog to another care provider -

Unfortunately, some time, the front personnel can project a negative outlook of the business. The question is, why? Can we be nice to each other?Rude and careless attitude reflects negatively on business and all people working there.

Please dont advertise that you see ferrets, have your exotics vet give me examples and testimony in person that he sees ferrets, then refuse to book us in because our ferret's issue is "not routine." Its a bump on his tail for crying out loud. We are just looking for a basic look over amd xray to see if its broken or something else ... and you even list surgery on your webiste under exotics as a service that you provide! So do you only see healthy ferrets? Because thats what it sounds like.

Friendly staff and they were on time. They were upfront about potential charges ahead of time to make sure you can make your decision. Handled my dog with care. They were up front with potential issues with my pet. Tried to give you ideas as to what could be wrong. Didn't have to spend much time there which my dog appreciated!

Refused to give me my dogs medical records. I called and tried to have my dog put into my name and they refused to do so. Very rude every time I call them. Very frustrating when all I am trying to do is make sure that my dog is updated on all of his shots.

Absolutely wonderful. We started going here after our previous vet got way too expensive. I've been very happy with everyone there; they have taken time to answer our questions and are very thorough. When we had to say goodbye to our 22-year-old cat, they were incredibly compassionate and made a difficult situation bearable. We won't go anywhere else!

So this week I had to make the decision to put my 13 year old black lab down. This was my first time having to decide whether or not it was time to let a pet go. I thank everyone at Mt Zion, from reception, to the tech, to the Dr for being amazing, and helping me to make the best choice for Jagger and for being so amazing during the entire process. I am grateful I was able to be there, and that they were so supportive. I would recommend them for all your pet's needs!!!

For many years I have rated them 5 stars but in the past year or so things have started to drastically change. Other than Dr Nelson and his wife my dogs have never been able keep the same doctor for longer than two visits so there is never consistent treatment. But my biggest issues is the astronomical prices they are now charging!! $18 for a dog nail trim!?!? $49 for a follow up visit!?! I will be looking for a new vet soon. I hate to leave because the staff is so nice and know my animals but I no longer can afford these prices.

This is the best vet clinic I have ever taken my pets to. They are clean, professional and very good with animals. They never try to up sell me un-needed services and always try to help me treat my dog with the most cost effective way available but the most effective way. They have always taken care of our dogs. I highly recommend them.

Seriously amazing vets. Brought my bunny Captain here. He was very sick with either Pastuerella or E. Cuniculli. The Dr gave me treatment for both at an affordable price compared to most exotic vets I’ve been to. Unfortunately, my bun wasn’t strong enough to fight this off, but this team made me feel so loved in this very hard moment. It definitely shows how much they cared about my Captain and I. Thank you guys so much for doing everything you could and going above and beyond to help me and my baby.

I have been a taking my pets here since I moved to Janesville in 2010. I used another vet service once, but came back because of the superior care. I have been thru good times and bad... They have always treated my pets with dignity and respect. I have had to make tough decisions on three occasions; all options were explained and then they helped me decide what was "right". They are a wee bit more expensive then some other clinics, but by not doing unneeded work, not only have I benefited but so have my babies. Can be difficult to get an appointment at times (a good sign?).

Very knowledgeable and professional. They gave background on any issues found with my dogs and gave realistic timelines of when things should be done. During covid-19 they will come out to your car to get your pet & bring them back out when they're done. I highly recommend Mt Zion Small Animal Clinic to any friends or family who are looking for a vet

We had very good experiences every time we took our pets here. We recently had to put our dog down and the staff was extremely understanding and compassionate. They really made the process less painful with how they treated us and their kind words. I would highly recommend them!

Love this vet clinic. They were great with my first dog and now I'm back after 4 dog-free years. They are still amazing and overly patient with my timid rescue dog. My first would try to jump out of the car before I could hook her on the leash and I'm hoping this new one will get braver and be the same.
