On March 28th, I have adopted a dog named Bob, who I later renamed Mozart. The staff was always nice and I know they take great care of their dogs. When I adopted Mozart, he was sick with kennel coughs but the staff made sure that I would leave with a healthy dog. It was a long wait but I was able to bring him home and ever since, he was able to feel comfortable and loved. When I would visit him, he was very much quiet and I could tell he was scared or stressed. But I’m letting everyone know that a dog at the shelter is totally different than the dog you will bring home, just give them love and attention and promise you that you will get the perfect dog. I thought Mozart was quiet but now having him home, he can definitely sing! He is such a wonderful dog and I can not thank the staff enough. He was also able to gain 4 pounds since he was a little skinny when I adopted him. But again, it just shows that these dogs need a little love in order to make them their true best self. The staff is really good with communication and was able to recognize me immediately after my first visit with them. Thanks to the staff and hope all the pets they have go home to lovely families.

The staff are very knowledgeable about the animals and their care. They take all precautions if there is any question of health for any of the animals. The place is always incredibly clean and well staffed. I was so happy to find a forever fur friend here!

Very friendly place with knowledgeable staff. The place was clean and the animals seemed well cared for. This was my first time at their new facility. Y daughter and her family were looking to adopt a cat. I was impressed by their new place on Prairie Ave. The staff, as before, were friendly and informative. They found the perfect cat for her family.

Very nice staff, the facility is super clean as well. Animals seem to be well cared for. We adopted a stray kitten that I found at work and due to my vet not being available to see her for over a week we decided to bring her to the humane society and we put a finders hold on her. We live in IL but I work right down the street from this facility. So glad I found them. Looking forward to working with them on a trap and release program near my work.

Ive had my Southern Wisconsin Humane Society cat for 7 years now, and I have yet to need to utilize the warranty. Just routine vaccinations and oil changes! This appreciation is long overdue, so thanks for the wonderful little companion.

Edit in reply to owner: the staff told me completely different things every time I spoke to them. Other people on here have claimed you guys also do all the surgeries in one go. It's not tragic, you people killed the kittens by having them go into surgery at a young age. I have voice recordings of all the conversations I had with the staff and every single time I was told the kittens were healthy. It's also the fact that I was promised a kitten but you people chose not to give me one because you'd rather make money. Also, luna (not maple bc that's a lame name) came back weighing less. There's no way you people were feeding her because it took us ONE MONTH to get her to a healthy weight and to stop shedding hair. You people need to be investigated. Let's also add how they laughed when I told them my partner had passed.I saved a cat and her kittens, I had them taken into this facility. I put a finder's hold on the mom cat and one of her kitties. They never called me for the kitten and the excuse was that I didn't specify which one I wanted and that most of the litter had died off. Not only that, the mom cat was returned with severe issues, she was peeing out blood and was losing a lot of hair. They tried saying that the bleeding had nothing to do with them but they gave her to me fresh out of surgery and I have a voicemail of them telling me she just had surgery, I also have the paperwork. I also tried returning her bc I'm not able to care for an animal who has issues like that especially since my partner passed away after we put the adoption hold for her so I've been trying to contact them since before Thanksgiving to return her and they just barely got back to me today (January 22nd) and said she couldn't make an appointment for me till March and she didn't even give me a time and date, she just hung up. The lady said she was trying to reach me but she barely tried reaching out to me in the past week. All the employees I spoke to before her gave me completely different information, one of them said I couldn't return the cat till after Dec 17. The lady Reagan also made it apparent to me that the medical, adoption, and herself do NOT have proper contact with each other so they don't share important info with each other. Reagan also tried to tell me that I never told them about the cat's medical issues when I first called to ask about surrendering her so it's not their fault but I have a call recorder and when I asked her if she could at least do something about the employee who gave me misinformation, she said that they don't keep records of their calls, not even call logs. I'm not sure how a place like this is running so unprofessionally when it involves animal's lives and well-being. I've worked/adopted from the humane society before in Milwaukee and the people there LOVED the animals. The cat was also a stray so they should have caught and RELEASED her but, since I showed interest in her, they told me they wouldn't release her and they said I had to pay of I wanted her. All they care about is money. These people at this facility are irresponsible, and do not care about the animals. They only care about adopting them out even if the animals have clear issues. At first, i wanted to blame the obviously untrained employee but, after speaking to Reagan, I see that the problem is with the people who are running this facility. Please, save yourself the stress and go somewhere else unless you want to deal with unsympathetic/unprofessional staff, a pet with medical issues which they will try to blame on you, and completely different information from every single employee you speak to.Edit: I tried to share pics but had to delete them because they wouldn't put my review through. It's probably because the cat looks emaciated in the pictures of when we first got her back from them and in the second pic she looks healthier because we've actually been feeding her. They neglect the animals here.

Took our Calvin here to get him neutered, long acting pain meds, exam, vaccinated, ears cleaned, and a mani/pedi. I think the total cost for everything was $109/$110 and the care he received was amazing so needless to say we’ll be taking the rest of our cats here for their routine exams/vaccinations because the last place I had to take my rescued cats to wanted nearly $300 just for routine tests/an exam. No shots/meds/spay/neuter and that was IF they didn’t find anything wrong on just one cat. They must’ve gave him the good stuff because I’ve literally never seen him this relaxed before, once the initial high wore off. He did get really hyperactive around 9/10pm and started SCREAMING bloody murder because he was higher than giraffe balls. But he’s calmed down significantly now. (Yes he was dressed as a shrimp)So yeah if you need an affordable vet clinic please take your pets here (:

I am a volunteer with HSSW. I really love working with this organization. The new facility is spacious and welcoming, and offers environments for animals that are enriching and supportive. You can have birthday parties there for kids age 6 and older that include a party room and time with an adoptable animal. There are many ways to support HSSW: you can donate your time in a number of volunteer positions, you can donate supplies for the animals, or you can make a money donation to support the mission.

Please support and donate. They do great work under tough circumstances. Have adopted several pets over the years, and all have given me more than I could have ever expected. Thanks to all that work there!

Last August we adopted a poddle chiwawa mix. The employees were friendly they gave my husband and i plenty of time to meet and greet. This shelter we meet in a room so other dogs are not distracted. I would highly recommend this shelter if your looking to get and give a special dog a fur-ever home.

I’d recommend very careful consideration when adopting a dog from this facility. About 9 months ago we adopted a 8 month old pit/lab mix. We should’ve know better… his papers about his past were a complete lie. They say he lived with kids, and only says he doesn’t like cats. On both occasions of introducing him to my half siblings(who are of middle school age) he attacked them. Anytime he sees kids walking by, he growls and wants to pounce. On both occasions of introducing him to family friends dogs who are very person and other dog friendly, he tried to attack them. We wanted to rescue to save a dog, it’s a hard lesson learned and we won’t make that mistake again.

Last July we lost our forever boy at 15, and didn't think we could love again. A month ago I convinced my husband we should try, and through HSSW we brought home this lovey little man. Nappa (formerly "McKinley") is a snuggly, energetic, fun-loving 2yo stray kitten. We brought him home same-day, neutered and with all his shots, for the smallest fee of any shelter I've been to. He had apparently been in a fight with another cat before his intake (which I lovingly call his "tough guy scars") and needed medical care. Everything was provided and documented in-house and he is mending wonderfully, spending his days eating, playing, and snuggling. This is truly an amazing shelter. You can really feel how much love everyone has for these animals 💜

All the staff were very nice. They genuinely care about the pets, the prices for adoption are cheaper than most places. They also can provide many services for your pet. %100 would recommend this place to everyone. Even if you have to drive an hour from where you live this place will make it all worth it. Thank you Humane Society for caring for all of our forever friends!

PLEASE HAVE YOUR PET TITER TESTED BEFORE VACCINATION! Please do your own research so that you are properly informed. It could literally save their life. I wish I had known about it before my dog died. You would be better off finding a holistic veterinarian in your area that is more concerned about your pets health than pushing pharmaceuticals. They did not take me seriously about my dog having a reaction to the vaccination the previous year. They seemed more concerned about her raw food diet and the risk of rabies than to properly inform me about the risk of unnecessary or over vaccination. They leave a voicemail after two of my voicemails because she was having another reaction about a titer test after her vaccination?! This is something that is supposed to be done before vaccination. My very healthy almost 10 year old dog had to die because of a vaccination her system couldn't handle that I could have gotten an exemption from with a titer test. Please do your own research and try to find a holistic veterinarian that will take the health of your pet more seriously.

We got our second cat here about a month ago. We went on a weekend and the shelter got super busy right as we were showing up. A very friendly volunteer was there on her off day and told us about the personality of the cat we were interested in. The girls working there all had a good attitude and did their best to be helpful given how busy it was. Things were a little disorganized, but everyone was doing their best. This was by far the shortest and easiest application process I've seen at any agency. We ended up with an absolutely awesome cat.

I love this place! Wonderful facility. My only complaints are the names of the animals like ‘scorpion’ ‘Mr.Ham Sandwich’ One cat is ‘Isis’. The last thing is the meet, greet, and take. I don’t agree with that. They also don’t get temperament tested. I think temperament is the most important thing. We took home a cat not knowing it was dog aggressive ended up full on attacking my dog in the face. We took it back and they wouldn’t talk or look at us and refused refund. I think the family needs to get to know the pet first before taking it home and have a good feel of its personality. When you put a dog in a home that isn’t fit abuses, abandonment, and a bad situation are very possible and has happened.

They are amazing out there. I took my dog and my mom took her dog, who are both senior dogs, out there for wellness checks. There is a proper veterinarian on site for these appointments and the care received was very good. Called back a few weeks later with follow up issues and the vet prescribed medication for pain and gave us recommendations for a full service provider for our problem. Super impressed.

Went there for the affordable vaccine clinic. Which they have often!! Staff was great, the vet that did the shots was super helpful and knowledgeable, and great with our pups. Add in the affordable prices of the vaccines, it was a great visit! They also do wellness appointments for those who's animals need a vet to check them out but don't have a ton of funds to do so! Highly recommend them for the vaccine clinics!

We have adopted two animals over the course of three years from this facility. Our cat Nessa (previously Mildred) was 3 years old when we adopted her a few years ago. Nessa is extremely friendly, when we got her they were not sure if she was spayed. We found out after she went into heat she was not, they were very helpful and they spayed her at no cost. We adopted our 1.5 year old pit bull terrier Sky (previously Savannah) last Friday. She is absolutely the sweetest pup and we are lucky to have her.My favorite part about the facility besides the friendly employees and volunteers is the fact that they include spay/neutering, micro-chipping, and vaccinations.

Everyone was welcoming and compassionate about the animals! They made me feel comfortable by encouraging me to take my time and meet numerous cats. In the Covid Era, I was nervous about the process as a whole. By the end of my cat's adoption I felt confident I had made the right decision. Supporting your local shelter is supporting your community.

My husband and I adopted a puppy from the HSoSW about a year and a half ago. He is one of the pups that came up from Texas and has been such a wonderful addition to our family. He is one of the greatest farm dogs you could ever ask for <3 When we are looking for a new member of the family, we will definitely check out HSoSW first!
