I'm grateful today for The kindness of this veterinarian and his team staff. The Doctor the vet was very good. Took me in on an emergency base .It was really an emergency basis. And the staff was so nice like I said. And the veterinary in it. I'm just grateful. There are about 3 veterinarians. I stay away from this is not one of them. They seem to do a good job as a few other veterinarian. Clinics. Professional caring .They had the diagnostic tools needed to testing.Fortunately, a friend was available. Who could drive me there and back with my dog?Thank you hayward animal hospital. For compassion and caring in my situation with my dog.

While on vacation, our dog got 2 barbed fishing hooks in her nose. After calling around, I found that Hayward was only 40 minutes from where we were. The tech on the phone was great as she helped me calm down and they were able to get us in. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes before they helped us as there were a couple of other walk ins ahead of us. Our dog was sedated and they got the fish hooks out safely. The vet and the techs checked in on her several times to make sure she was ok coming out of sedation.Everyone was so kind and compassionate, we were very happy with the care we received and immensely thankful they were able to get us in.

We brought our dog in to get checked up for a bladder infection. When we got there first the place was really dirty and smelt like piss, the dr also had very dirty scrubs and has a blood spot on them which isn’t a huge deal it’s just one more thing to add on top of our bad experience. Dr Ostrander came out and asked us what was wrong with him and we said he was peeing pretty uncontrollably and that we wanted him to get checked out for that and while we were talking to him a nurse came without asking us took his leash off put there own leash on him and took him to a room in the back and slammed the door on us. They didn’t tell us what they were doing to him they just took him. So we asked the front desk what the heck they were doing and she goes oh did you want to go back there and we were both like absolutely we want to see what they’re doing to our dog?? So she just cracked the door open and asked if it was ok for us to walk in and the vet said uh yeah very suspiciously. As we walked in there the nurse was standing around our dog hiding him from us or so it seemed and sneakily took his muzzle off which they also did not ask if they could do, and it was very weird that they took it off as soon as we got into the room like they knew what they did was wrong. So we looked past that and then the dr felt his belly for less then thirty seconds and determined he had a uti which in my experience you can’t feel from the outside. He then said he needed an antibiotic and he started putting together a shot as he was putting it together he said “this is what I call a doggy cocktail” in a very creepy tone of voice. It just made us very uncomfortable. Before we could ask what was in it he stuck it in our dogs neck and didn’t try to comfort him at all while doing it. He then threw our dog off the table and I asked what that was and he responded with a bunch of unknown words to me very quickly and got us out of there as quick as possible after giving us a bottle of pills which weren’t explained to us. We then got into the car and started reading reviews and there are two other reviews saying they brought there cats in there for non deadly medical reasons and the dr looked at them for two minutes each gave them a shot and then both cats died the next day. We are extremely worried that our dog is going to die from this doggy cocktail and don’t know what to do now. Very scary guy and very unprofessional.

New to the area. Took my dog in on a Wednesday for a wellness visit, he had well managed heart disease and I wanted Ostrander to become familiar and tell us what he thought about how he's doing. He told us he looked good. By Thursday at four he was dead. Took him in in the morning because he was having trouble breathing, they had him all day and told my wife he had pneumonia, a enlarged heart and some other mass of something. Charged my wife a thousand bucks and brought the dog out and he didn't make it four miles down the road before he was dead. Now either he totally missed everything the day before or he never looked at him, we'll never know they don't let you in with your pet. Stay away.

New to the area we brought our newly adopted kitten in for a booster. Anna and Dr. O were wonderful and the staff very friendly. Recently I needed a prescription for Bravecto in order to place an order online. I called Hayward Animal Hospital and spoke with Doreen. We had a nice chat and she gave me details on the Vet Store. The following day I received the log in info. I ordered the Bravecto and the price was better than other sites I'd visited. I highly recommend HAH. Staff is awesome. I feel like my fur babies are in great hands here.

My 1 year old lab was playing/swimming when all of a sudden she was bellowing in pain. She has never had anything like this happen before. I called my normal vet, but they could not take anymore ER visits that day.My husband called the Hayward animal hospital, and they got her in right away. My husband and I carried our dog in and waited for the Dr. to see her. We were so distraught and upset because our dog is always happy and energetic and she was crying in pain.We were relieved when the Dr. said it was not an ACL but just a hamstring. He said it would take some time to heal and we thanked him.Though I am happy with the outcome and that our dog would not need surgery, and the price was okay considering the circumstance. I found the front desk to he very unfriendly and stand offish. They seemed to care about their masks and sanitizer when we were carrying our dog inside. Even when some of the people there were not wearing masks. They had a rude tone when they were reading the medication to us, and when I asked if I could go to my normal vet for further medication or if I would I have to come back here and they said no you can go back home and go to your normal vet. I said no I mean my normal vet right here in town, because we lived in Hayward. After I said we lived in Hayward they seemed to be a little nicer to us.For living around Hayward for 6 years and driving by the animal hospital 100+ times, I see why other locals have told my not to go here.

Dr. Ostrander has been my pets doctor for more than 19 years. I've never had any issues with his service. It has always been professional care. I've heard people's opinions regarding their favorite vet; mine has always been Dr. Ostrander of Hayward Animal Hospital. He always treated my pets like they were his own. You can tell that he has a love for animals the way he looks into the eyes of your pet. I know he can see things that we can't. He has always treated my pets with expert care. I have to admit that I did listen to friends and tried other vets. The common theme was that they were always misdiagnosed. I ended up spending more money with an incorrect diagnosis and then felt like a fool and always went back to my vet. I admit that I did that twice and that was enough for me to know that Dr. Ostrander KNEW my pets from when they got their first shots as pups. He knew what ailments they were susceptible to and the first treatment always made them better within a 48 hours. So I happily give Dr. Ostrander 5 Stars for excellent treatment! If you are looking for a passionate vet who will treat your pet like his own then there is only one option- Dr. Ostrander of Hayward Animal Hospital.

Got a dog this vet had spayed and never took out the stitches. Was told they were dissolvable, they weren't. Took in our kitty to be fixed, they started a spay on a boy cat and said no charge for the partial spay. Just used them for a holiday emergency, our old dog wasn't feeling well. They did everything they could to run up the bill. Most of it unnecessary. They left tape on my dog's leg that won't come off. Highly do not recommend.

My husband took our little dog there today in excruciating pain. The vet diagnosed our boy with a few things. A blockage and a hereditary vertebrae issue. Our dog was sent home with NO pain medication and my husband expressed to several of the vet techs as well as the vet that he had a 5 hr drive home with our dog and henwanted our dog to be comfortable and would like some pain meds. Turns out the medication given is an antibiotic. When I called the vet before 4pm the vet was already closed. I wanted him to call a vet in our town or a pharmacy for pain medication but he was already closed. I have never been so mad. Who makes a 8lb dog suffer? I will NEVER go back to this dr. This dr is well informed about medication but cares nothing for the well being or suffering of animals. My dog suffered because of this so called vet and his teches. I do not recommend this dr.

I can't thank Dr O and staff enough for their kind, compassionate care they provided my buddy, Rambo Rae, in his time of peril. Rambo had a hip issue that had been diagnosed a few months ago by a vet of mine for decades. Rambo had something come up & Dr O found a disc issue. I got a few more days, but it was time. They got me in asap & spent a good deal helping me process things. When I retire here next year, this is where I will have my pets cared for. Thank you, everyone

We were in the area on vacation and our 9 year old German shepherd ended up getting dehydrated. Dr Howard and his team fit us in last minute and helped calm our nerves. After a couple bags of IV fluids we we’re on our way to our next adventure! Huge shoutout to the team for helping our guy enjoy the rest of the trip!

We had a difficult Memorial day weekend up north when our 13 year old weimaraner, Annie started having seizures. We were brand new clients calling for help and the staff at Hayward Animal Hospital were supportive and caring. We will always be grateful and never forget the compassion Dr. Ostrander provided us during an emotionally overwhelming time. Everyone made us feel like life-long clients too. If we lived up north this would be our vet. Thank you to the whole team at Hayward Animal Hospital.

Life saver! We had to rush our cat to the Hayward Animal Hospital earlier this year for emergency surgery after he got stones in his Bladder and blocked his urethra. They took amazing care of him and he had two surgeries over a week period to fix him. If it wasn't for the fast and skilled work of their team our cat wouldn't have made it. We are very grateful and would highly recommend them.

Dr. Abby is great with the dogs and shows a true love of animals. The oldest dog actually gets excited when I tell him we going to the vets. The verdict is still out for the puppy but today was good on his first visit.UPDATE: Dr Abby move to another town. Since COIVD, HAH has changed and is not the same without Dr Abby. Much less personal and friendly IMO. Have moved to another vet nearby and better like the experience. Downgraded to 3 stars. Quality of service was fine I last went but overall experience was just OK hence 3 stars now.

RUDEST secretary I have ever delt with in my entire life. She has no people skills and should not be working in customer service. I called on 8/28/23.

We brought our 5 year old cat to Hayward animal hospital on Friday. He died screaming in pain on the way to emergency vet early Sunday morning. This is one of the hardest days I've had. "Dr" Ostrander looked at the cat for literally less than 2 minutes and said he had a respiratory infection and gave him a shot and some antibiotics. I don't know how you can do an examination in 2 minutes. But he did. Or said he did. My poor cat died screaming in agony and that's something I'll never forget. The Dr didn't ask any questions and seemed in a huge rush to get through the giant backlog of customers waiting in the parking lot. My appt was almost an hour late so obviously he was helping someone, just not us. I wouldn't bring another pet to this place for any reason ever.

We have been taking our kids to The Hayward Animal Hospital for years. We have no interest in going anywhere else. Dr. Ostrander is as great with my cats as he was with my Yorkies years ago and the animals seem more at ease with him than other places we tried over the years. He is very knowledgeable and his staff are all so nice and friendly as well. You can tell their love for the animals they help is genuine. And they all take such great care of my kids and I know they are in good hands if I have to leave them there for a surgery or ect. Definitely the best place for my pet family!!

Visited while on vacation with our dog who we suspect had a urinary tract infection. We were able to get in same day, no wait time, saw Dr. immediately with the lab results, and we left 25 minutes later with meds in hand. I found the cost to be very reasonable.
