I was accepted by wood county and portage county within hours… not saying that they could have taken their time but almost two weeks of going back and forth with this shelter about a cat I absolutely fell in love with was ridiculous. They told me when I first put my application in that there was no other applications on her and that I should be able to take her home on Monday (I put the application in on a Friday). I went to see her on Monday and was then told that I will get a call on Thursday in the morning. Never got that call so I ended up calling them and I got the sweetest lady in the world (can’t remember her name) she informed me that there is multiple applications in on her now and that there is one that wanted her and her sister. I asked to come see her and she said I could at 2pm. Got a call back at 1pm saying that they were too short staffed so I couldn’t come see her but I should know Saturday what their decision was. I didn’t get a call Saturday so I called back Monday (today) and they wouldn’t take my call. I look on their website and the cat that I loved was gone but her sister was still there. Next time just tell someone if they got denied or not. I am disgusted in the games this shelter played. I wish I could give this place zero stars because honestly what they did hurt so bad. But on the up side I adopted a kitten from portage county humane society today. Portage county humane society will be the shelter I go to from now on.

This shelter is absolutely horrible, they will not hardly take ANY ANIMALS from their own COUNTY! You donate money to take care of these animals when 70% of the time they turn people away and say “we are full” every place is full but somehow someway you make it work!! They will say that “sometimes nature needs to take it course” basically saying that throw them outside and let them suffer until they die but yet they are a “ no kill shelter” BUT tell people to throw domestic animals outside to pet nature take its course. Adams humane society you need to do better, you need to help out your county and start to take in more animals instead of turning them away!!!

Most amazing people you'll ever meet. They're helpful in so many ways and definitely enjoy doing what they do. Even if you're not looking to adopt there's so many ways you can help by donating food bags of aluminum cans etc you can also volunteer your time. The work that's done here is absolutely amazing and inspiring

Called recently after my mom said 2 cats took up residence under her trailer and one of them attacked her. I was told they don't take feral cats and to just "call around". That is fine as I know there aren't a ton of resources and I had planned to Google what else I could do after calling there but.... some sort of effort would have been very helpful, especially since ACHS is held in such high regard and loved by so many. What bothered me ultimately, and what I found was unprofessional and misinformation, was when I ask if there was anything else I could do, she said I could trap them and then dump them somewhere else. I was floored.... so, trap some cats and dump them somewhere else so they can breed and attack other people?? Or worse, get shot and killed or drowned? They were probably dumped to begin with, poor cats!!What happened to educating the general public on safe practices, spay and neuter (some places might offer a discount), additional resources that might be helpful besides "I don't know, call around" and "just dump them somewhere else".I remember volunteering there many years ago and we took pride in being an educational resource for the public. I don't know if because it was Saturday she was so nonchalant but...yeah. Not okay.

You do nothing for animals that are neglected and needed to be removed from their owners that neglected them

Drove over a hour and 1/2 to look at available dogs. I was not able to make it until 15 minutes to close and was made to feel very unwelcome. I obviously ruined the employees night. I was out before the 7pm close, but treated rudely during my visit just the same. Put a bad taste in my mouth for this shelter, but it is sad because the animals still need to find loving homes. Hoping the next hopeful adoptie has better luck than we experienced.

I adopted my cat from here. Was very happy with the way place was kept up, and animals seem taken care of. Was happy to donate a little more than my adoption fee, anything to help a little more. I want there doors to stay open!!!

Wonderful organization! Before ACHS, I was hiking on a Sunday and found a badly injured, scared dog. After an hour of phone calls, I was told there was no place to take him locally. I was referred to a Vet in Cincinnati, over an hour away. Now we have a local place that cares! I am grateful for this organization, the volunteers and staff that help so many abandoned, lost, scared animals find homes.

Just a money making scheme. Already paid 200$ to adopt the dog, then 7 months later they call saying it never went through when it obviously showed up in my records, none of the info they gave me was accurate on the dog and then when she became a danger to my young children due to her behavior they charge me a 35$ surrender fee. Never in my life have I had to pay to surrender a pet. Right when I got her, she was obviously not taken care of, her nails were far beyond acceptable and she was starving. I wont be returning to this shelter again.

Unbelievable prices to adopt a animal in need! They should want nothing more than to find good homes for these animals, but it seems to me they just want to fill their pockets! So sad! I feel bad for the animals here.

We had our cat neutered. He was suppose to get a cone, but didn't. It was fine, he didn't bother the area.
