Giving a five-star rating for the unique and fun experience, despite dealing with the grumpiest old man when purchasing tickets. He literally flung a map at my husband. It was so obnoxious we had to laugh and can only imagine this is NOT his normal job.Everything else was awesome.I'm sure it helps that a huge percentage of passengers are on vacation and vacationing people are happy people. It was fun to be on the upper deck while being transported.

Beautiful experience .Cannot express in words .You can take your car with you to Washington island. They charge $24 for car.I think it’s worth to take car with you , because the island is big .There are lots of things to see in the island .Ferry service was very good. They manage everything very professionally . On weekends there are ferries which comes in every 45 minutes.

We really enjoyed our trip back and forth on the ferry. Good views of Plum Island and lots of ferries going back and forth all the time. The trip takes half an hour each way. Clean and plenty of space.

Efficient and easy way to visit Washington island and back. The organization to board vehicles was impeccable and the ferries were on time. Enjoy the journey when on board, by going in the upper decks and sitting outside if there is a nice weather, you will unforget the experience. You can opt to bring a vehicle for $28 back and forth. Each adult is $15 two ways.

Went to Northport and decided not to do the ferry since it was a little late in the day for it. Meaning, plan ahead if you’d like to do this because this line runs every 90 minutes. You will also have to take a ferry over to Rock Island State Park so be prepared if going there. We did check out the visitor center and watched the ferry unload/load. So please read other reviews for the actual ferry experience. For this review you can check out this bench by the visitors center and this random couple walking on the stony beach

Catching a ferry to nearby islands isnt a normal thing for me but definitely a very cool experience. The crew were very professional and loaded at least 12 vehicles. Everyone stays in their vehicles and the trip just takes a few minutes. It really helps create the experience. Ill be back!

This was fun! Rather $$ at $14 pp & $28 per vehicle....but...whaddya do?! Sure did enjoy the ride and the island as a result of it. Employees were not friendly...just sober faced and did their job well. I would do the island again next time! Wish I could attach a cpl short videos for the curious to watch. Hope you enjoy your ferry ride when you get there!

Fun ride! You drive (or walk) onto the ferry, park and get out of your vehicle. The rest of the trip is just a pleasure trip on a big boat. There's seating outdoors and indoors, and yes, there are bathrooms.

Very orderly and efficient experience. Great views. We didn't realize the fare was round trip until we were trying to pay to return. That made it seem more affordable than we first thought. We were one of 3 cars taking the last ferry over on a Wednesday in late September. When we returned to the mainland midday on Friday, there was a long line waiting to cross onto the island. I recommend going on a weekday if you can.

Cool island, School house Beach was cool to see, however dead fish were all over. And walking on a rock beach, not ideal. Needless to say we didnt stay there long. Ferry ride was great for the whole family. Probably wouldn't go there again with the family.

This is our 2nd time taking the ferry to Washington’s Island and it was pretty slick. Give yourself enough time before it leaves depending on how busy they will get in the summer months. Get yourself a map inside the visitors building when you land on the island. Check out the sites. We did the lookout tower, school house beach, Jacobson Museum and the lavender shop. We enjoyed lavender vanilla ice cream and lavender caramels. It smelt so good in the shop.

Very nice. Friendly ticket folks. Took my SUV. Helpful people. When it's time to go back to the mainland allow plenty of time, as there is a lineup for the last ferrys!

Easy to get on and off of; great viewing platforms (indoor and outdoor both). You may get out of your car during the ferry ride. You are guided onto the ferry and help parking. Only downside is the off season times available are not convenient for evening round trips, and cost is a bit higher than I'd expect, but a well maintained ferry boat and good staff = obviously worth it.

Definitely get there early to get on the ferry. The Line was long but once it starts moving it moves. The ferry ride itself was good. Nice views while heading to Washington Island.27 for a car14 per people

This was my first time traveling to Washington Island. Even though it was raining, I found the ferry ride fun. The ferry only had a few cars on it, so there was plenty of room to get out and walk around. On the way back to main land was a whole different story. There was way more traffic leaving the island. Cars and trucks were packed so tight on the ferry we weren't able to get out and enjoy the ride.

Love taking the ferry to Washington island. The service is awesome. The charge is for the car and the individuals traveling in the car. On rush days, make sure to travel back from the Island a little early, considering the wait time. On an average each ferry holds up to 20 or so cars.

We timed the ferry schedule out very well so wait times weren’t too bad. The have a good system, with keeping things moving and loading and unloading in a timely matter. A little more costly than expected if you bring your car, fee is per person. Good news is pets are FREE!

Star rating doesn't matter since it's not like there's a different ferry to take with your car. My beef is that it's more expensive than the Seattle ferry and that to get back to the peninusla in the afternoon you gotta get in line AT LEAST an hour before the ferry you want to be on leaves. I looked into renting a golf cart ($$$$) or taking the "trains" ($$$ and inconvenient), but neither were good options when you have little kids with diaper bags, snacks, water bottles, etc. I thought going on a Tuesday would help, I can't imagine how many people get stuck on the island on the weekends. To make sure you don't get a ferry back I'd be in that line by 4:30 at the latest. We got in line at 4pm on a Tuesday in August and we just barely, like 2nd to last car, got on the 5pm ferry.Otherwise, nice staff, they absolutely fill it as much as they can, and I appreciated the bathroom on board since each time I'd been sitting in my car for an hour prior. Once you get in line walk up and buy your ticket, keeps things moving once boarding starts. Honestly, because of the ferry we'll be skipping the island on future DC trips until our kids can bike which makes me really sad for those businesses, but it was just too expensive and time consuming.

The trip was a blast. It was $53 for a vehicle and two adults round trip. The views were worth every penny.*Update*We arrived on Saturday at 11:45am for the car ferry. I would have preferred to be there sooner but that wasn't and option. We were about 1/2 a mile back with all the traffic. I thought it would take forever to board with the long line of cars. At exactly 12:45 we were boarded on the ferry about to take off. The staff is efficient and quick. Great job guys.

Get there ahead of time. There was a pretty long line at the ferry terminal when we got there, but we got on the second departing ferry after about a 40 minute wait. While you’re waiting in line go up to the ticket shack and get your ticket. This will speed things up when it’s time to load the boat. There are restrooms in the yellow house which used to be harbormasters building. There is some kind of restaurant or snack stop in there but it was closed. Loading in unloading the ferry is fairly efficient, very safe, quick ride. Don’t get stuck on the island overnight. Make sure you know when the last ferry leaves. You can get out of your vehicle and go to Topside however during Covid they recommend you stay in your vehicle. There is a bathroom on the ferry. You can go as a single passenger however it’s over a mile to get to the “downtown” of Washington Island so have a plan. I didn’t see any taxis. You can also take a bike on the ferry instead of your vehicle.Check the ferry website for current schedule and prices. The ferry schedule changes by season

The Washington Island ferry was a neat experience.I recommend bringing a jacket because its windy on the water.Be prepared to spend close to $60.00 for a car and 2 people to travel on it. Its expensive!

Took the ferry to Washington Island and did the bicycle loop (ask the ticket booth for a map). Highly recommend as there is so much to see along this route and you don't have to wait in the car line if you have bikes.

I heard that people were waiting hours for the ferry. We got lucky, it wasn't any line at all. Very expensive, 27 dollars for the car, and you are paying for each person on top. 4 of us paid almost 90 dollars. But I think it is how to keep crowd down 😉. Ferry takes about 25 min to the island. I counted at least 3 or 4 ferries going back and forth on Labor day. Biggest ferry Madonna can fit 30 cars probably, smaller is 18, I counted🙂.
