Awesome park! It was so quiet it was almost scary! I got there a little too late so I didn’t have the opportunity to explore like I wanted to but, I’m excited to visit this park again.Restrooms: Plenty of restrooms throughout the park.Dog-friendliness: Amazing trails to walk your dog.Picnic area: Tons of areas to have a BBQ.

Beautiful park designated as a Dark Sky Park from the International Dark-Sky Association. Our Canon camera did not do justice in capturing the beauty of the Milky Way. Hike in only campsites that are also on the water. Our site was surrounded by wild raspberries!!!Beach and dark sky viewing area accessible to everyone.

Newport State Park is a really dark sky, we didn’t have the opportunity to see the stars because was all cloudy at night with all the head-lights off that was dark… We camp on Site 3 and I truly liked that location, my objective was to take some pictures of the Milkyway but wasn’t possible at that time, the Site have nice rocks by the beach special for a foreground by the Lake, we hope to go back and try again! The sites are for camping with very little commodities, to get to the Site 3 took a walk of one mile from the main parking lot (No. 3) and my family was with me so it took a lot of things to take to the site, family were rookies with the walking and camping by the days we enjoyed the warblers of the place. Here are some pictures of the Site 3.There is a pit toilet (warning they don’t maintain it on regular basis), not potable water on sites at least on number 3 & 4.Place is very quiet! (Not likely with 4 kid’s with you 😛 )Not shower room in the whole park!Playground: By parking lot number 3Restrooms: Pit toilets not maintained on a daily basisDog-friendliness: On a leachPicnic area: By parking lot number 3

Great park to visit! We've been to peninsula state park multiple times but we're pleasantly surprised how great this park is too! Great, ez trail hikes for the whole family (10 & 12).

Gorgeous park! The hike-in campsites are nice and the trails to get to them are well maintained. Most of the campsites are right on the lake, so you get great views of the sky! It is a dark sky park, and when the clouds clear you can see so many stars, including the Milky Way.

Newport State Park in Wisconsin is situated in Door County’s Peninsula along spectacular on Lake Michigan shoreline, Newport State Park is one of Wisconsin's "Dark Sky" park. Located just 10 miles northeast of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on the breathtaking Lake Michigan shoreline, the park provides visitors with the opportunity to spend time with nature in the seclusion of a pristine wilderness setting. Thanks to its strict “no-artificial light” policy, the park is one of the top stargazing spots in the country, and has even been certified by the International Dark-Sky Association as “Dark Sky Park,” which is an honor bestowed upon very few parks across the United States.

Newport State Park is a beautiful place to visit. There are tons of outdoor activities that can be done here such as: hiking, swimming, picnicing, relaxing, outside cooking, waterboarding, and more.Be sure to arrive early because this is a popular park that will close once a certain number of visitors are at the park. There is a charge to get into the park. The cost varies by residents, non-residents and age.Restrooms are available and pretty clean. This is a pet-friendly park!

Spent the day at Newport State Park Beach...and it did not disappoint! There were no crowds and a large and sandy beach area. The tree line and surrounding area were beautiful and relaxing to be out in and enjoy. This place felt like we had found a hidden gem. There were only a few rocks as you first walk into the water and then smooth sand after that. The water stays shallow for a good distance. It was a very dog friendly beach. They have a separate bathroom and changing area nearby. There are plenty of hiking trails around and picnic tables available. You do have to pay to get into the park ($11 for the day), but there is a nice parking lot (#3) with plenty of spaces and an easy walk to get to the beach.

Beautiful park. I stayed in site 14, right on Europe Lake. Sandy bottom with clear water great for swimming. I canoed in from public landing then used mountain bike to get around. You are still close enough to Lake Michigan to hear the roar of the waves. The Lake Michigan side has areas of rock and large areas of sand. Recommend wearing water shoes to go swimming. The detractor for me was the lack of privacy for the latrine. It was open in back with a clear view of the hiking trail. Got to wave at folks while doing my business. Needs a privacy wall.

An amazing state park! As someone that has never hiked into a campsite I had no idea what to expect. We were able to pull a wagon down the trail, about 2 miles to our campsite, some areas were rough! Once we got in I was in awe the entire time of the serene space, the bay, the sky, everything. It is definitely something I think everyone should experience. Please note they do not sell firewood at the park!

This is a beautiful park. If you are into trekking then you desire will be fulfilled. The walk is along the lake with multiple access to the lake and view to the caves embedded beneath. If you want more, rent a kayak and go forth. Beautiful view and healthy trekking and please do check the fauna and flora. I put some pics here.

I love backpack camping at Newport state park! All the sites are really unique and amazing and the location has a lot to offer. It has also a pretty unique back story; beautiful beaches and hiking trails. Check it out when you are in the area. You need to have a state park pass or just pay a small fee to enter. Reservations to camp need to be made in advance online unless they have sites open when you arrive. You cannot just drive your car up to the site you have to backpack in.

Did some camping towards the end of February 2024. We only explored the southern end of the park. Stayed at site 11, which is right off the shore and the trail. It's not incredibly private, but a nice site regardless. There's a decent pad area, good for 2-3 small tents. A few trees suitable for hammocks. Exposed pit toilet with modest privacy wall, no TP provided. We also visited other sites in the area. Site 12 was very private with beach/shore access, but also exposed to the wind. Site 13 was back a bit further into the woods and did not have shore access. Similar toilet situations to site 11.Sites 8, 9, and 10 all share a single enclosed outhouse/pit toilet. I believe all have shore access. Site 8 seemed to be the most secluded, with a wide space available. All of the sites we saw had their own bear boxes and metal fire rings with grill/grate.The park offers tons of trails to explore. The dedicated hiking trails were full of rocks/roots, but no major elevation changes. The biking/hiking trails were mostly wide and flat, very easy to walk. The park office wasn't staffed during our visit, but open for access to the bathroom and water fountain. They also had some carts available for transporting gear to our site. We saw very mild foot traffic during the day, but it was cold. I didn't see any available fire wood for sale on site. But there was plenty of deadfall to use, or local residents selling bundles outside of the park.

Beautiful, quiet park with some amazing forests, gorgeous views of the water and more stars than I've ever seen in my life.

A beautiful well-maintained State Park. Lots of hiking trails some of which are handicap accessible and marked with interpretive signs. Other trails seem to be seldom-used and are very narrow which makes for a good Adventure. Many beautiful flowers trees and rock outcropping along the shore. The Beach area is not large but it's clean and beautiful. The beach area has picnic tables and a changing room. The park does not have a lot of development in it and the camping is hike in only. However the roads are paved and the picnic areas are well maintained and clean.

Loved our time camping at Newport on site No. 16. Such a wonderful site, right on the water. There is a designated overnight parking area for sites 14,15, and 16. We did not know this, as we checked in after office hours. The parking area (only for sites 14, 15, &16) is not shown or mentioned on the park map, so be sure to ask about it or else you'll be hiking 3.5+ miles with your pack and any other things you bring!

Wisconsin's only Dark Skies Park. It's so dark you can see the Milky Way. Primitive camping. Brand new hiking trail through bog area using unique floating system that rides on the water. Lots of interpretation of local history and beautiful beaches. A rare pristine beauty of a park. Newport has 17 backpack (hike-in) campsites, including one group site. All sites can be reserved. Campers must hike or bike in all gear and supplies. There are no carts available at the park. There are a few amenities at the sites, including a pit toilet, fire ring with flip-up grill, a lock box for food and a bench or two. Water is available at the park office or at a solar pump near the picnic shelter by Lot 3 (seasonally). There are no shower facilities at the park. All garbage must be carried out of all campsites.

We went to see the stars in the Dark Sky Park but our timing was off for that because it was a beautiful super moon and clouds rolled in. What a beautiful place!

Such a beautiful park! We backpacked in to site 14 which was just about 1 mile in. The stars were unbelievable! Bring lots of light as it gets DARK up here. I saw a previous review that they didn’t bring light, that’s a major mistake. The site had 2 bench seats, fire ring, lockable storage box and a pit toilet. We could hear Lake Michigan from our site which was wonderful to fall asleep to.

Camped this weekend, beautiful! Not many people. The hike into the side wasn't bad. We stayed at site #10 and it was perfect. Sites are well spaced and have a shared pit toilet for every few sites. Well maintained trails. Loved it!Restrooms: All pit toilets from what we saw.Picnic area: Beautiful! Lot of benches and lake views.

Easy trails lead to beautiful shorelines and remote campsites. Great for day hikes and beginning backpackers, but a lovely stroll for experienced backpackers as well. Get your reservations in early.

This is an excellent park! It is extremely dark and a great place to view the night sky and a clear evening. I have ridden some of the trails and also hiked around a bit and it is great. The mesquitos can get bad deep in the woods. The beach is nice near parking lot 3. I’ve also entered the park from what I believe is the most norther entrance actually I think it might be Isle View Park and it has great beach too.
