I had difficulties with other humane societies for adopting my first-time pet. But I walked into this one and was easily introduced to all the animals, and I decided to adopt 2 beautiful orange cats. Meet Ginger and Pumpkin. They easily got comfortable and are happy orange kitties! They play with each other all day and sleep with each other at night. Best decision of my life.

I was going to adopt a dog from them and just 2 days before I could see the dog someone else got her. I was told no one see her until April 22. But someone else got to see her. Before that day. I was very hurt by this. And no one has reached out to me to see if their could help In another dog. Very disappointed

Worst Humane Society I have dealt trying to bring in strays. It is annoying to have to know the exact address and having to go through permission with somebody else, I feel like I am doing your job will not be back.

I got my kitty "Charlie" back in August. I decided not to change his name because it seemed to fit him perfectly. I had lost my husband and I was needing some Joy in my life. Well this little guy has truly provided that. The experience of working with Iowa Co was great. They have a wonderful staff and appear to care about their animals. Update!!! Charlie's Birthday is TODAY He's getting so big and has been just the best kitty EVER!!! Exactly what I wanted in a cat. Great personality, loving & a Lap kitty, too!!😺

I wanted to foster again to the same dog to fully plan on adopting him. They would not allow that even though we had built a bond already❤️💔. This whole thing has felt like a power trip. Its not about people! Its about homes for these poor animals in shelters. Hes been there well over a year. Assumptions are never healthy especially in the business of finding homes for shelter animals.

Went for their rummage sale at end of August. They have organized it greatly, to the point where it is more of a little shop than your typical rummage sale; prices now reflect this organization by being higher.

We got our cat from here a few days ago-- a little over 10 but a huge sweetheart. They were amazing in helping us find the kind of pet we were looking for and did everything they could to get the paperwork process done quickly.

If I could put zero stars I would,They lie about a dog they have which is a saluki( who also has a home and tons of people have tried to adopt the dog and the breeder has tried to get the dog back and they denied to give the dog back.) 0/10 wouldn’t Recommend this shelter extremely unethical. ADOPT Don’t SHOP RESPONSIBLE!!!! This is definitely not the ethical shelter it is extremely unethical.

After the phone call I just had with the receptionist lady at ICHS, all I can say is, "yikes." A month ago, I found two stray adolescent male cats in the middle of a country road at night. For the past month, I have called around to try to find these two unfixed boys a place to be neutered and then adopted, since I already have three cats. All other humane societies and places I called told me it was ICHS's responsibility and to keep calling asking for any available space. Last week, they had a clear-the-shelter event and I was promised a call for the day after, and then a time for drop-off to be scheduled at that time. Another week passes with no call back. At this point, these boys are spraying and smelling up my extra bedroom.I basically begged for a solution, as I know they need to be neutered so that more stray cats aren't flattened on the road in the future (during this month I saw two, probably siblings, flattened on the same stretch of road). This leads up to my call today. The lady answering the phone was apparently the person I had talked to a month ago (not sure if she had answered one of the calls in between, the ones promising communication seemed much nicer). The attitude I got from her immediately was unreal. I asked to finally have a time to schedule a drop-off, and she acted like I was trying to drop off my extra garbage. Everything I said was untrue, that noone promised me a call back, and there is no director, so she doesn't know where I got that idea. She could not give less of a care for these poor cats, and only cared about telling me how wrong I was and getting my full name for their blacklist.I told her I'm at my wit's end with getting ahold of them, and I'm sure she wouldn't want me to drop them off at their door. I'm trying to do this the right away. I feel bad for the animals in this woman's care, and unbeknownst to her, my calls are recorded. A higher-up can contact me for that audio if they care about having a professional and caring animal-lover answering their phone. They have my name and phone number. Yikes.

I think the staff at the humane society do a wonderful job. Over the years, we've had some of our disabled clients volunteer with the animals and the staff were always very patient and accommodating. I recently adopted a second dog into my house from the Iowa County Humane Society and am so thrilled with the experience. They were able to help me select the right dog, were thorough in their background check, and were generally pleasant to work with.

You can tell the individuals working at the Iowa County Humane Society really love the critters in their care. The team was extremely friendly and, after thoroughly examining our application and speaking with our references, made the adoption process very quick and easy. I would definitely recommend them to someone else looking to adopt!

Because of a lack of communication on the part of the humane society, I was not able to adopt a kitten that I was adamant about getting for over two weeks. You see, I started volunteering there and fell in love with a kitten my first day, so I decided to try and adopt her. After jumping through several hoops over a few week span, I thought I had finally gotten the last piece needed to take her home, so I brought a kennel with me and went up to make things final. When I got there however, I was told that all the kittens were being sent to another location an hour away, and that even though I had the ability to take her that moment, they couldn't allow that because the paperwork was already submitted. Mind you the kitten was still in the building, I just couldn't take her. While I was really disappointed about not getting the kitten, I was also really frustrated over the fact that even though I wanted her from the beginning, and was working so hard to get her, I was not contacted once to let me know that this was happening. I understand that things get busy, and that you might have a lot of applications to deal with, but I simply feel I was not important to them and that they really didn't want to work to get this kitten a home. While I don't know what will happen with me and this kitten, I know for sure that I will no longer be volunteering here, and instead work with the humane society in Lancaster.

On Wednesday the 10th our girls and I stopped in to look and cuddle the kitties. On Friday the 12th we filled out the application. The next day we stopped back to choose which kitties we would like to bring into our home. The lady at the front desk said that those kitties were available for adoption. I gave her our names and we were told the manager should be getting back to us shortly.Sunday afternoon I called to check in, the manager wasn't there.Monday there are closed. So on Tuesday I called shortly after they opened. Again, I was told the manager should be getting back to us shortly. That afternoon, about 3:30, we stopped in to see the kitten we were looking to adopt. I let them know we were there if the manager had any questions for us.When we got back home around 4 pm I checked my email and find a denial of adoption letter with no explanation as to why. I called to get some answers and was given the run around. I had checked in with my references and find out that they hadn't even been called. They never asked us any questions. This is so heartbreaking. The kittens would of been so loved here.

Just adopted a cat this weekend. A truly wonderful shelter and a friendly staff that love the animals and let you take your time meeting the ones you are interested in. I recommend completing the application a couple days before you go in. It was a very relaxed and straightforward process and I'm happy I adopted from Iowa Humane Society!

Do not support this So called Shelter. They discriminate against people with records that have nothing to do with Animals. My two daughters, husband and I were trying to adopt a kitten and jumped through their hoops and gave two references that said we treat Animals as family but we got Denied because of our past criminal records which has nothing, nothing about abuse to Animals or people for that matter. So because we made poor choices when we were younger and paid the price and our debt to society already but Iowa County Humane society still passes judgement and deprives multiple animals great homes because I guarantee we aren't the first and won't be the past. Boycott Iowa County Humane society.

ICHS is a good organization trying to do right by animals and people. They do behavioral evaluations and work with the animals to help them be better pets once they're adopted. They do their best to make sure that adoptions are good for the adopters and animals. I've found them to be very helpful and caring for animals, people, and the community. It's actually pretty amazing the good this rural county humane society has accomplished.

Please boycott Iowa County humane society they claim to want to do what's in the best interest of the animal but that's the farthest from the truth!!!My family and I we're going to adopt a kitten and we filled out the application gave two references got our landlord's permission and then they wanted to deny us because of our CCAP record which has nothing to do with ANIMALS 😡🤬😡..... I've owned Animals my entire life from Dogs, Southern Flying Squirrel, Raccoons, Fish, Cats, and Ferrets and ALL had extras care and THE MOST LOVE NURTURING affection they could ever receive.BOYCOTT IOWA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY! TO DENY AN ANIMAL A GREAT, LOVING, FOREVER HOME BC WE HAD GOTTEN INTO TROUBLE IN THE PAST IS DESPICABLE AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!!!!

Very nice, hard working people. I really enjoy volunteering here. They're sometimes overwhelmed with adoptable pets, which is unfortunate, but they do try their best to be fair and organized for potential adopters.

It's a worthwhile cause for these poor animals, but they need new management again and quit over analyzing adoption applications. Yes you need to make sure they are going to good homes, but penalizing people for things beyond their control is unfair and not going to help these precious creatures find their furever homes

ICHS provides an important service to the community. The folks at ICHS have always been helpful and kind. I have adopted several wonderful dogs from ICHS. Being that it is no-kill means a greater expense to run so donations are really important. I think they are amazing.

I love volunteering here. The staff cares deeply for the welfare of the animals and it is a no kill shelter. I enjoy connecting with the dogs and playing with them both inside and outside.
