The staff here is very loving of these animals. Dogs are well cared for, socialized with other pets, and many different people. They take the time to get to know each and every one of them personally and know what is a good fit and what is not. Because of this, we ended up with the perfect addition to our family where he is loved very much by all of us and fits right in! Phoenix definitely feels at home and loves playing with his little brother Copper and chasing the cat around! (The cat loves him too!) We hike frequently and are always outside, which makes this husky very happy and it’s apparent. Couldn’t be more thrilled for him and these other animals. They are in good hands here; adopt if you are a good fit. If you aren’t, don’t leave a bad review, find a good fit! They know what they’re talking about..

Like most small Humane Societies they have a good group of volunteers but never enough money to do everything needed. If you can spare a few dollars please make a donation, every dollar helps.

When EMS took me to the emergency room, they collected my dog from my car. I was in Armstrong Wisconsin. They kept him for two days until I was able to drive. There was no charge and they provided him with a cool semi choke web collar. My dog Trailer had chewed off his harness. They send every dog home with this great collar. I was also given tips on training my new headstrong dog.

Krystal and Renee are so kind and caring! Adopt Miss Kitty, she is the sweetest most loving cat I have ever met! And there are 2 amazing dogs there that would be at home with any family, amidst all the dogs barking these 2 were quiet and attentive! They need someone to love.

Great place to find a fur baby! Angie was quick to get back to me and answer all my questions. I was looking for a dog for my daughter and was introduced to Emmy Lou a bulldog mix. She was a perfect fit and we are so blessed to be able to adopt her. The staff was friendly and really cared about the animals at their facility. I would recommend them to any of my friends and family. Thank you Forest County Humane Society!

It's always important to have the right people in the right jobs. Chrystal Ross is that kind of person! I came to FCHS to adopt my first pet in almost 25yrs; she was kind, compassionate and took a great deal of time helping with my decision. It's quite apparent that she loves her calling. I would recommend her highly!

Back in April, my fiancé and I adopted a male cat who had originally come from Forest County. Every piece of paperwork that was given to me stated that he had been neutered. We already had a female kitten who had not been fixed yet, so a neutered male was required. In the beginning of June I noticed some behavior problems with our newly adopted cat. He was becoming very aggressive and territorial. I made an appointment to talk with our vet about it and she noted that he HAD NOT been neutered even though his papers said he had been back in February. I was informed that this was most likely the cause of him acting out. I immediately contacted Forest County Humane Society and was given the run around for a week. I left countless messages and talked to a few different people.Long story very short....myself and my step daughter, who is only four, fell in love with our adopted cat and he was a part of our family. But by the time we found out he had not been neutered, it was too late. His behavior progressively got worse, no matter what I tried to do. I could no longer take the chance of him attacking myself, my family, or our other kitten anymore. Not to mention that he began spraying and not only on material items, but also spraying on myself. I caution everyone who adopts a pet to have your vet check that everything is correct and there are no problems. I now have to find a way to break the news to a four year old that we had to re home her pet. If it hadn’t taken a week to receive a final answer on getting him neutered at no expense to me (because I adopted him under false pretenses that he was already neutered) we may have been able to resolve this problem before it put my family in danger.

As animal shelters go, this one is the best that I have visited in the area. They obviously care about the animals in their care. The animals act like they receive individual attention on a pretty regular basis. There is a nice exercise area for the dogs in the back of the building. Their adoption process is better than most shelters too. They insist that you have a meet and greet with the animal that you want to adopt and they check references to make sure that the animal is going to a good home.

owners are very childishif you want to adopt an animal, go to a more professional sheltervery fake, take what they say with a grain of saltlooking back, i regret all the time an money my family an i put in, helping out with volunteering and donations, trusting them to take in an find homes for our own animals that we rescued and rehabilitated ourselves where all we asked was to be notified when they got adopted, whom they got adopted by, as well as notified if any of them were to be brought back as we were more than happy to keep the animals we nursed back to health if no one wanted them. they never notified us of anythingnever again

The best animal shelter I've ever seen. Not only do they work tirelessly with the animals in their shelter to make sure they're adoptable, but they work with both the animals and the people adopting them once they get adopted. You can really tell how much the volunteers care about all of the animals at the shelter. If you're going to adopt, this is the place to do it.

We adopted Allie later in 2017. Jay spent over two hours on Saturday Getting Myself, my wife Colleen, our other dog Jazz and Allie aquainted. When I came to pick Allie up on Tuesday,Jay took time off from his store to help send her home with me. No question in my mind that these people love animals!! We LOVE Allie as well!

Shame on whomever makes the decision for adoption at Forest County Humane Society. We are a loving family who have long time experience with dogs. We were denied adoption because we have a special needs child in our home. This dog was a perfect fit for our home and the children in it. Shame shame shame!

At first everything seemed fine... But then it wasn't. They brag about how many dogs they place, that's all fine and dandy if they are going to a home that is a good fit. The dog I came home with was very skiddish and I knew it would take time to adjust. They swore up and down that he was house trained. Which he 100% was NOT. When we called to ask about what to do about it their response was to build an outside kennel and leave him outside all the time. They 100% knew coming in to this we wanted an indoor pet. On top of all of this we ended up having to return him because he was agressive towards my kids, we were told he wasn't an agressive dog. Then three days after returning him they cashed the adoption check, which was almost a month after I had given it to them. When I brought that to their attention all I got was well we don't do refunds after 5 days, maybe we could do a partial refund, of which I was never told about. So you sent me home with a dog that clearly was not going to work out and now I'm out $130 and absolutely devistated. I will tell anyone and everyone I know to NEVER go to this joke of a humane society.

This facility will take your animal and refuse to give it to you, knowing damn well it's your animal. They are inhumane and would rather put someone through weeks of legal torture and actual hours of physical crying during limited visits, than let them adopt back their animal. Horrible place. Horrible business. Give this owner back their animal.

i was looking for a second dog after one of mine had passed a month prior. Living in Vilas County, I kept looking at both the Oneida and Vilas County shelters but wasn’t finding the right fit. I somehow stumbled on the Forest County shelter and found a dog I was interested in and filled out the application.Crystal was the one who contacted me after she had done her research with my vet, etc. and invited me to bring my dog for a meet and greet with T. Both Crystal and her daughters spent most of their evening observing how the two dogs interacted, initiating some tests with water, food and toys to ensure that it was a good fit. They didn’t have to spend that time but they did because they wanted this to be a successful adoption for both parties. She also understood my situation that I couldn’t take T that night and was very accommodating about scheduling a return visit for T’s adoption. There were other dogs there that I would have considered if T turned out not to be the one and I know Crystal would have worked with me to ensure we made a good selection. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending them or returning when I am looking to fill another pet slot in our household.Thank you.
