Never open when posted I arrived at 8:30 FD opens at 8am. Employees just laughing and enjoying themselves with a unopened store.They are building a new one in town when they can not even keep the old one open and profitible.People work here that verbal complain in front of customers and then give nasty looks to the people in store.I will go to anywhere else but here from now on.

Extremely racist , i asked the woman at the register did she have any gels & styling products and she told me to go to another place where they sell “ black , african american, Colored products with more variety for “ MY type of hair type “ she got all that out before i finally told her that it was enough cause im pretty sure if i didnt stop her the N word was next . just disgusting.. i wouldnt wish that type of service on my enemy

I walk in and see many people working hard to make sure everyone gets their food quickly. There is also the people in the background making my delicious food. We sat down and right away, there was a waiter at our table with menus and asking if we wanted something to drink. We ordered and within the minute, there they were! Keep in mind there are 14/17 tables being served. When the three of us ordered, the food was at our table in only 10 minutes! My burrito was excellent and the people were so nice.

This store is the worst. Closed during posted operating hours and the store is a constant mess with no new merchandise being stocked.

This is the 1st Dollar General I have EVER been to. It's SO SO CLEAN, and welll stocked!! Not to mention the staff is EXTREMELY polite, helpful and well trained!! YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!! you'll be GLAD YOU DID!! I WAS!!👌🏼👌🏼😷👍🏻👍🏻👍👍🏻👍🏼 By the way I am referring to the location on 83rd and Cottage Grove in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood!!!!

We were shopping here on a trip through the area. We had a full cart of items. My husband used the one restroom, and soon I realized that the person the three employees were laughing at and making fun of was my husband. We left our cart by the register and walked out. I guess they lost about $60 in sales from us today!

Cards, birthday cards, father's/mother's day cards, whatever special day is coming up they probably have a card for it. Pretty much always a dollar a piece, and usually a decent selection. The only problem you might have is that when you shop there all the time for cards, you might forget you've already gotten that one before.

I stop in to get the random things like batteries, or bandaids about 2-3 times a week. But lately I have not been impressed with the customer service. I have stopped in specifically for items and they have been out of stock. That's not a big deal as that can happen, but when I ask if they have a specific item, they tell me that if it isnt out then they dont have it, They said the truck comes in in a couple days. I can check back then. I said okay and stopped back the day they got the truck in. Well when I asked if they now had the item, they said the truck came in and everything is a mess in the store room. I asked can they check in the system or see if it was on the delivery form? That way I know if/when to come back? They said no, and the girl continued to play with her hair. I decided I would try back a different time and came in the next day. The next day was the same excuse. They hadn't been through the inventory enough to tell me and wouldn't check once again. Now today I went in for batteries and some Tylenol and they said, if you spend $4 more, those items will be free as you save $5 at that point. I went and grabbed a couple more items and the girl gave me total. I said the $5 didn't seem to come off. Can you double check that? She replied that it took the coupon as accepted. I said that the amount doesn't seem right. To which she said it was correct. I said fine and went to the car. After looking the receipt over, I went back in and said it wasn't correct. The girl said, well I am sorry you didnt spend enough. She said you were a few cents short of the amount needed to get the discount. I said that is why I mentioned it before checking out, and you reassured me the discount was applied. I said I didn't really need the additional items, and I feel she should have told me before I checked out when I specifically asked her to double check the purchase as to why the discount wasn't applied. She put it back on me, and said that I should have purchased more before tax.I have learned that it just isn't worth the time or any potential money savings to consider this store anymore. Good luck to the rest of you. I am no longer spending my money at this store.

we give it 5 stars because as far as dollar stores go it's just what you expect from it. lots and lots of small ticket items, shelves packed, friendly cashier's. you can actually save money by starting your weekly shopping here for housewares soaps picnic supplies etc before you go to the big stores.

I've been in a few dollar general stores and I always dred going because the stores are disorganized and understaffed BUT today I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the store clean and well maintained but the staff was friendly and helpful. I will be shopping at the Cottage Grove location on a regular basis.

Not a true dollar store - most of the items are not a dollar, although they do have a lot of items. Also, the whole store reeks of some chemically scented product. Not sure if intentional or some sort of spill, but I feel sorry for the poor employees who are exposed to that all day :-/

This place used to be good now they are never open they are supposed to be open til 9 on Saturdays they closed at 130

Usually has what I need. Sometimes, cluttered especially while restocking. Hard to get around store during this time. Grab a cart from outside if there is one. Often times there aren't any inside. Friendly, helpful staff.

Tiny, cramped, and dirty store. You spend more time waiting on the one employee working to come up and rung you out than you do wandering blindly around trying to find what you came in for. I wouldn't shop here given a choice and I don't like shopping here since there is no other choice in town.

Good prices, quality service, unloading carts are almost blocking multiple areas of the store and it could be kept a little cleaner, but it’s a steady busy place so not much downtime to clean and face store/shelves.

Dollar general is mostly a convience store...some people are posting photos of the cafe next door and reviews of the cafe. No food is served at dollar general. Some groceries, sodas, beer, housewares etc are available here

Dollar General is my favorite spot to stop for pretty much any random thing I need. Plus the folks who work there are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. Cottage Grove dollar general #1!!!

The employee there the older one he is awesome because he let me slide with only paying a dollar for one of my soda for my soda because I didn't have the rest and he paid for the rest of the change best Dollar general I have ever been to.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not enough employees!! Only 2 in the whole store and they were trying to unload the truck and help customers. I was looking for a product that was somewhere in the delivery but they couldn't find it in the hour I was there.
