We went to the Chetek Cafe with fairly low expectations; we wanted to try something new and somewhat local.Food: I ordered the "gyro" which is by no means a gyro as it's pork. If you're willing to overlook that inaccurate name for the sandwich it is actually legitimately delicious. The meat was well seasoned, tender, and juicy. It was, to quote my husband "a surprisingly high quality of meat." It was also a fairly large size pita sandwich; I had ordered it as a basket and it was served on an actual platter-- huge.Service: Very casual vibes from staff but our waitress was super attentive; very prompt with refills. Everything you could ask for from a small town diner in terms of hospitality.Atmosphere: The building is getting on in age and the booths are small. Some seats at the counter are ripped and the color scheme of the interior is very mid 90s roadside diner, complete with taxidermied fowl in the window. If that's your thing, you're gonna love it. If you wanted more formal dining, you may feel put off.Overall the food was well above average. Go out of your way to visit this place it's a nice value for the amount of food you receive

I highly recommend the weekend breakfast buffet. Biscuits and gravy are so good, the breakfast sausage was so delicious I had to buy some to take home! They also had a few delicious pastries, light, flaky dough! The German coffee was also amazing, picked up some to go.

I stopped at the Chetek Cafe under the recommendation of a local friend. The service was great and the food was even better. I got the Bavarian steak breakfast which I was unable to finish due to the generous serving size(pictured below after I mixed up the dish).If your in a hurry this isn't the place to go. But not do to a lack of service or slow kitchen staff but instead due to how busy they are because the food is so dang good.

This is an awesome burger. Tasted great they are half pound burgers and a mouthful. Very good buns and everything was very fresh. We will certainly be back.Parking: Parking with easy access to the restaurantKid-friendliness: Kids very welcome and good meals for them too

My wife and I stopped here for breakfast on a whim, and boy were we glad! I had the Max Strammer just to be adventurous and was so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone! The combination of dark rye, mettwurst, eggs, pickles and brown mustard sounded strange, but it was amazing! My wife had the german sausage and pancake and we both agreed it was the best sausage we had ever had for breakfast. The waitresses were super friendly and we enjoyed listening to them banter with the combination of locals and tourists that came through while we were there. Our only regret was that we were traveling and couldn't take meat from the freezer home with us. We will definitely be back!!

Delicious food and wonderful service- a gem in Chetek! We had wonderful lunch- the best schnitzel I’ve ever had. Usually, I’m not a fan and it was amazing! If you want cut to order meat, Norbert will come take your order. I’m assuming Norbert is the owner. There’s a photo frame of his hometown in Germany on the wall. German coffee is great. We left stuffed and loaded with delicious groceries for our camping trip. Can’t wait to try the sausage patties for breakfast and seasoned ribeye on the grill tomorrow. Thank you!

Rather you are a local or just visiting the Chetek Chain of Lakes, this place had amazing food. Customer service was great. As we waited for food we watched the cooks prepare some tasty looking breakfast omelets for others, all whisked and prepared with fresh ingredients. Great serving size. You won't leave hungry or broke. Food was not greasy, which is always a plus in my book. Check this place out.

Very slow service. Kept making excuses why good was taking so long. 45 minutes for breakfast food that was gross when they weren't very busy. Biscuits and gravy was disgusting. Heard the server tell the table behind us that we got ours before them because the gravy comes from a can. Really? Won't be back.

Good golly...I grew up as a South Dakota farm kid and always had big meals....this place matched that. Breakfast sandwich was huge and a huge helping of hash browns and tasted fantastic. Staff was quick and incredible friendly. Old style cafe...felt like walking into the past. Fantastic on every level. I starred it on Google maps in case I get back that way.

I came here with my mom, my daughter (6 months) and myself. We were sat at a 3 person table to which the other spots said "no seating." however, we had to make room for the high chair, so being courteous we moved the chair to the side of the table where it slide in all the way so it was out of the way.... a waitress RUDELY walked by and grabbed the chair and said WE CANT SIT PEOPLE HERE.. and proceeded to put it on the end of the table which also said no seating.... but the chair sat out all the way. Confused by this gesture.. we let it go.. We waited 15 minutes before we decided we'd just have the buffet because we received no service. We ate our entire meal with still no service. As we were waiting for a bill the waitress FINALLY came over and asked if she'd like us to take the plates.. Still not asking if we wanted drinks. We watched 4 tables come in AFTER us and get drinks. As we sat there invisible. We also never received a bill.. we just left our table after another 15 minutes of waiting or so after we were done. We stopped by to pay and told the lady we didn't have a ticket and explained the situation. albeit it wasn't her fault. We just thought they should know. Food was ok.In short: We ate a meal we didn't even want.... got no drinks... didn't receive a bill and was yelled at AND ignored. Will not be returning.

Very clean old school cafe with excellent breakfast and our server, she was quick to refill coffeed and VERY nice & accommodating and I'm not a local. Would definitely go back. Omelette and hash browns big thumbs up. Thx!

Started out welcoming. Server told us about the breakfast buffet so we ordered that. My partner had the ice tea which looked like ice coffee. It was thick and cloudy but tasted like tea. I had coffee. Server never came back to see how the food was or to ask about refills on coffee or tea! I had seen the coffee pots near the buffet so I assumed we have to refill our own beverages. But some young gal chased me around the counter to ask if I wanted more coffee. I figured it was too late. I had waited at least 10 minutes for a refill so I found it myself. Most of the crowd had left by this time so being "too busy" wasn't an excuse.This is a great place if you enjoy German dishes and like to be left alone to eat. Servers can be friendly but they keep to themselves too much. They visited and joked while wrapping silverware but didn't check on tables. Too bad.I Will say coffee was good! The buffet: the bacon, the biscuits, and French toast were very good!!

Went for breakfast and without a doubt will be going back. They have a regular menu and on weekends also offer a breakfast buffet. Prices are very reasonable. They were short staffed and very busy this morning but still got food out quickly without compromising on quality. Hashbrowns were crispy without having to request them that way. Staff was very friendly and interacted with customers as much as they could during the busy morning rush.

We stopped here with our daughters on the way home from a Softball tournament. Highly recommend the German coffee. The breakfast was delicious. None of us had anything left on our plates. Can't wait to stop there again.
