It was a little busy but not slammed and our order took over 30 minutes to receive and only consisted of a cup of soft serve, a blizzard style ice cream, and strawberry shortcake. The staff taking our order asked "What do you mean?" when I ordered the strawberry shortcake. (It's on the menu.) She then went on to describe what a strawberry shortcake is and asked if that's what I wanted. Yep, that's why I ordered it. Overall, the visit was a big disappointment mostly because of the extremely long wait time for a very small order.

The custard stand has the best ice cream/custard on the planet.I personally like lemon.However, they really need to work on their efficiency because it takes forever. The workers seem to be doing very little while the orders pile up. I think it would go better if they were just sort of telling the people what's going on and why it takes a long time. I'm sure it's because they mix in the flavors. Anyway, the custard makes up for it--4 stars.

My husband and kids stop in for treats whenever we are in the area. They have interesting and unusual flavors of soft serve, which is awesome. The hubby says the hotdog sauce is not as good as T&L, but still good. The kids have no complaints. Service is always slow, but it looks like they are making everything fresh and to order, so that's a plus. I'd say the atmosphere is true, small town Americana, which is a thing to be appreciated.

The hot dog was good. The bun was not toasted. The coleslaw was okay but nothing special. I would have to give this hot dog a meh plus. It's good and if you just want a hot dog and a drink then it's a good place to stop. I also tried the cup of chili and it was good but a little soupy. Maybe that's why they serve it on the menu as chili soup. It is meh. I would just stick with the hot dog.

Easily accessible from the interstate, you're greeted by a sign on the front door asking for patience with the staff due to understaffing before you ever step foot inside. On my 1st and last visit, the staff consisted of one who was virtually clueless and another who thought she knew everything. Upon arriving there was a couple dining outdoors and another dining inside, so they weren't slammed by any means, but the indoor dining area floor was long overdue for being attended to. The cramped men's restroom was out of paper towels, tiny trash can overflowing, and just generally filthy.This Custard Stand only offers steamed hotdog buns. While their hotdog chili is delicious, it alone cannot salvage their hotdogs and while edible, they are subpar when compared to others. I've previously eaten at other locations that unfortunately are no longer open and received a significantly better product from much friendlier staff. On this date I drove over an hour to Flatwoods for that same experience, but left very, very disappointed. While I try to support locally owned businesses, this type service makes it virtually impossible to be a returning customer.

pricey..we went to the custard stand and ordered a cone and a milkshake.. we had not been served yet or our the order processed, or placed. then we had to wait while the person talked to someone.. then talked to someone else at the drive through.. and then asked about our order again.. we had already ordered... paid... and tipped.. never again.. for this reason i give the custard stand a lower rating than i wouldWheelchair accessibility: straight shot from parking lot if place isnt crowded

Found this treasure just off the interstate. Great hot dogs and awesome funnel fries as well. They have really great hoy dog chilli and their homemade coleslaw was top notch. The lady who took the order was very friendly and made the experience of eating at a new place even better.

Super average. Not worth the stop.Lady working the window was rude and didn't talk loud. Ignored the customer in front of us. For a while. And scoffed when the next customer needed a minute to think about their order.Funnel fries were weird. Nothing like a normal funnel cake. Half cooked half not. Our order was cold by the time it got to us because they didn't let us know when it was ready. It just sat there till she rudely said its been ready. Ice cream was average. Not bad. Not delicious. InbetweenThey were apparently out of small cups too. What kind of business doesn't have the cups they advertise?? Doubled the price we had to pay just to try it.

I love going to Custards when Carrie Ott is working. She is very friendly and fun loving. Always greats you with a smile. Carrie is the best employee that Custards has. I won't stop if Carrie isn't working.

I could not wait to try this restaurant out. I even chose it the day before we went...ugh!!!My daughter Noel and I chose to go to Braxton Co here in West Virginia for 3 reasons...close to home for a day trip, the Flatwoods Monster Chairs Scavenger Hunt and a Good Hot Dog!!!We decided to eat here after we finished for the day and was on our way home, a early dinner because it was 3:45. We decided to eat inside, even though it was 70 degrees outside, it was too breezeyI ordered a Regular Hot Dog West Virginia style with Chili, Slaw and Onions. I paid extra to add the diced onions and I got a large Pepsi...$4.58 total. Gave her a $5 and threw change in tip jar. My daughter ordered a corn dog, cheese fries and Mountain Dew large..she paid something around $9. We grabbed a booth to wait it out in this small dining area on top of the kitchen basicallyWell, the staff which seemed to be entirely kids 16 to about 20 started in. There was about 5 girls and one boy. We were the only ones in dining room and people were walking up to ordering window pushing a buzzer to notify the girls that they were there.Three of these girls were huddled together talking loudly because we heard everything they were saying about their sex life.The buzzer was buzzing and a girl from back told one of them to get it, In A Minute was her response. We waited about 15 minutes for the food and heard them complaining about making ANOTHER CHEESE FRIES...( which happened to be my daughter's order) when she got them it was greasy still half frozen in the middle fries with a cup of cheese to dip them in (What????)My hot dog was okay!! Nothing to write home about. Boiled weiner..you could taste the weiner broth, chili was good but not my person best,slaw was sweet and the onions I paid extra for [3 pieces long enough to make pedals out of...what happened to diced???]Noël said corn dog was good...but fries were lacking!!! We ordered a custard to go..I went with Apricot and she chose Tutti Frutti....while waiting a mother with 2 little boys about 6 and 2 came in and ordered ice cream & took a booth.The boy working started cursing from the kitchen area but we could hear him...BS that, F $#@ this, it was horrible. I told the girl making our ice creams, please go tell him to stop with the language there are kids out here...She stepped back their, he said what the F%$#, and came around corner to see was complaining and I gave him that Momma going to take you to the wood shed glare...the language stopped but he wasn't happy and neither was I.Ice cream was good!!! I would go again, but next time eat outside at covered picnic tables to miss the dramatic floor show. I know that I will be ignored a little out there because they don't like to be bothered by the buzzer while they are talking...but at least I don't have to hear what they are ssying!!!I would have given better review and recommendation would have been there...but those kids running the place was a huge turn off!!!

Fantastic chili dogs and great ice cream in a charming setting. Outside or inside seating. The service is OK; this isn't a drive thru. Each order is cooked on the spot. Their chili on the hot dogs is great!

I'm an honest reviewer. I've been to a lot of places. None of them have been as disrespectful as these people. Not only did I pay extra to get an all beef dog, I get the cheaper dog. Then, when I go to the window hoping to order some more food, since I'm hungry and see if there was confusion on the regular dog versus the premium in which I ordered. I rang the bell (only to find out it's broken) and stood there for about five minutes. No one came to the window. Now I get being short staffed, and having only three people on staff today. However, I don't understand how someone can open the window, serve a customer, look at you waiting to order, and then close the window on you. Nor why all four of them couldn't turn around and at least aknowledge that there was someone here. Why did it take my wife going inside to get someone's attention? Then to be informed after I've ordered my cones that they're too soft to dip. It's a bit upsetting that a small establishment such as this one could fail due to lack of proper management. All in all, I'd say not to waste your money or time here. The soft serve is better at Dairy Queen. Just go to the arby's or taco bell across the way for more food and less headache.

The worst experience with such a simple request for a banana split, served in a hot dog tray, this is the second time the first time thinking possibly they were out of the banana split bowls today when asking " this is our banana split bowl "Let's be honest here isn't it all about cutting costs one banana leaving no room for anything else typically found in a good banana split. Not to mention the mess syrup running everywhere.

I love the Custard Stand. I can't help but go every time I am passing by it. The real treat of this place is to have the servers give you their favorites. When you do that, they are way more likely to really treat you. The last time I did that, the server gave me an Artic Swirl (DQ Blizzard) that was oreo with strawberries. An odd mix initially, but after tasting I don't think I can ever go back to anything else. Its insanely good. The cakes are good but also the chili is worth buying a tub and taking home for future hot dogs dinners.Parking: If it's busy, which it tends to be in the summer, the parking lot can fill up. I recommend parking on the other side of Subway if you run into trouble.Kid-friendliness: Their is items on the menu that are for kids and the seating is inside and out that might hold larger families with smaller kids as well. The stickers on the glass are at eye level for kids that shows flavors and other items.

Great Chilli dogs! Their chilli dogs has got to be in the top 3 best chilli dogs in the entire state! The frozen custard is a good as any we have ever had, if not better in 24+ flavors. Easy, easy, easy access off/on I-79. Once off I-79 you can be the at the Custard in 90 seconds, depending whether or not you catch the traffic lite on green. This place is extremely popular. You may have to wait as much as 15 minutes to give your order. There is indoor and out door seating.
