This is a wonderful little restaurant. It reminds me of a family diner. I love the atmosphere here and the food is really good and it’s cheap as well. Me and my partner ate there and got two full meals for under $30 including tip. The desert options here are amazing as well. If you were passing through this area, I highly recommend you stop here and get a burger.

So disappointing, I love to support small business and I’ve stopped many times at this restaurant on my way to visit family. I waited 40 minutes for a tuna sandwich that had about a tablespoon of tuna in it. I’m leaving feeling very hungry with the long drive ahead of me.. apparently there is a new chef, but I don’t think you really need a chef make a tuna fish sandwich. The waitress was very kind and the pies look great, but you’re probably better stopping somewhere else

From the outside, Gateway isn't the most impressive looking place in the world. Inside, it's more of what you'd picture for a diner.I came on a Saturday evening, and the place was about half full. My first impression was how cheap the food was- sandwiches ran you about $7 whereas dinner plates were about $10-$12.I ordered the grilled pork tenderloin, which came out pretty quick (same with the rest of the food). My food ended up being quite disappointing. The salad came with a raspberry vinaigrette that tasted almost medicinal. The peaches were average, and the tenderloins were very small and seasoned very poorly. The rest of my group also was not impressed with the food. Our bill ended up being quite cheap, but I really wish I went somewhere else.

I heard rave reviews about the pie, so it was a must stop on our way back home. Tried the Tator Kegs first. They are giant Tator tots with bacon and cheese in them, served with ranch. They were amazing and reminded me of Potato Skins appetizers. We then had pie. Cookies and Cream and Coconut Creme. They were absolutely fantastic. It's been years since I've had a slice of coconut creme pie and this hit the spot!Plenty of parking (turning left out of the lot isn't great because there is a slight blind turn), clean restrooms, and very friendly service.

Really great option if you're passing through. Food is reasonably priced, and you're welcomed with traditional southern hospitality. For breakfast, you can't go wrong with anything they offer. For dinner, I recommend the trout as it is locally caught and fried to perfection. The only dish I'd stay away from is the Philly cheese steak and fries. Fries or frozen, and the steak tastes like regular steak ums.

What a blessing to have a family diner right near Spruce Knob. I was referred by the nice lady that runs a general store near Seneca Rock. She said breakfast lunch and dinner are great. I stopped and got breakfast right after seeing Spruce Knob peak back in August. I got steak and eggs and it was a tasty deal. Staff was very kind and courteous. I would definitely eat here again next time I’m in the area.

The West Virginia Camaro Corvette Club was doing a spirited run down Rt 33 aka Shenandoah Sidewinder on August 13th when we decided to take a chance and stop for lunch. We sure are glad that we did. What a hidden gem! The food was fantastic, the prices were reasonable and the service was spot on! We love to support these privately owned small businesses and we will definitely be back with even more members the next time we are in the area!

This is a great restaurant for tasty, well-rounded meals! We stopped here after a day of hiking. We had tenderloin with potatoes and green beans, and roast beef with potatoes and apple crisp. Both were super tasty and satisfying. The bread served with the meals tasted fresh and homemade. We carried out desserts for the next day. I highly recommend the blackberry cobbler!

This is an excellent little restaurant located at the access road to Spruce Knob in Riverton, WV. It feels very much like the old-style country diners of yesterday with a comfortable atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly service. If you've heard anything about their homemade pies, I assure you they aren't to be missed. Definitely a delight to enjoy if you're in the area visiting Spruce Knob or Seneca Rocks.

After visiting the highest point in West Virginia and hiking a nearby trail, my friend and I were famished. As I focused on the road to get us closer to civilization, my friend used his cellphone to accumulate nearby restaurants that could satisfy our deep hunger. The closest place to our location was the Gateway Family Restaurant and upon our entry into this fine establishment, we knew that our insatiable appetite would be satisfied. The southern country-style food with a nice ambiance and counters so clean you could see your reflection, Gateway Family Restaurant was just what we needed to recharge after a good day of hiking. I highly recommend this restaurant to hikers near Spruce Knob and for anyone who likes delicious pies, milkshakes, and southern-style food.Pictures courtesy of the Samsung Galaxy S21.

I had a great visit when I came. The staff was very friendly. There isn't really any other options in the area so the gateway is a fine choice to eat. I have definitely had better but the food was very tasty.

Wonderful food and service. We had hotdogs and fries and a piece of peanutbutter pie. The chili was amazing and the peanutbutter pie was also the best I've ever had.

We always enjoy stopping here. Their home cooked food is always a hit and they're easy on the wallet. They also have pies!! And if things couldn't get any worse, there are rocking chairs on the front porch to chill on after the meal;)

So glad we stopped by for lunch on the way home after visiting Snowshoe. Food was tasty, service was friendly, and the price was very reasonable. Oh, and they sell homemade pies... by the slice or whole. If you are nearby, you really should stop by for a meal.

Are you headed to spruce knob? Then, before you head up that way, this is a must stop! Really good food! Really good prices, really good service! I drove by this the first time I visited spruce knob. That was a mistake! The next time I went I stopped here and it was so worth the stop! Homemade pies for desert and the food was perfect!

Nice spot. Stopped in for great food and WIFI, after hitting Spruce Knob and Seneca Creek. Warm blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Yum!!Give the friendly tomcat on the porch some attention, while you're there.
