I recently stayed at the Modern Homestead while judging the Mountaineer Open Horse Show at WVU. The Modern Homestead is a fantastic place to stay! The suite was very cute and cozy with tons of space!! I had the honor of meeting one of the owners and he was incredibly welcoming and was super sweet! Due to my schedule I was not able to eat at their cafe but I was able to try one of the deserts and it was a little slice of heaven! I highly recommend this charming venue!

I absolutely love coming here! Everything is so beautiful! And I couldn’t think of a better description than “cozy dinner “! From the seating, to the rooms, to the music… Everything is very cozy and comforting! Also, the food is exquisite. I’ve done these dinners a few times with my husband and always love them and choose to come back here for special occasions. This past weekend, I took my daughter on a mother daughter date, she may be the pickiest eater known to man, and she devoured her meal! As a brooding teenager, I love watching her get excited over picking out flowers for our garden. Our area is so lucky to have such a place!

Been a long time customer of Tathams and Trellis Cafe and the Rustic Church of Modern Homestead. Everything they do, is well done. From gourmet fare in the cafe, to experience-based wisdom in plant care, landscaping guidance from their greenhouse- to the excellent talent performing in the Rustic Church. Never stayed in the lodging, but have seen rooms, very nicely appointed, attractive decor. I can add they have a superb massage therapist available.

They have a wonderful selection of plants and a beautiful atmosphere to shop in. The folks that operate this business are top notch. They even called me back when I called them and didn't get an answer. Everyone I have dealt with here has been extremely kind, patient, and helpful during my visits. I would strongly recommend paying Tathams a visit if you are looking for high quality plants at a peaceful location.

Fantastic spot! I've visited the city for work several times and always stay here! Rooms are clean and cozy, and you can't beat having a coffee shop directly on the premises. Staff is also great...responsive, friendly...feels like the southern hospitality I'm used to. I appreciate having a kitchen area with a table and chairs to make sitting down to eat feel a little more like home. There's also a garden center on the premises which is a special treat. A few stores are in walking distance, along with a nature trail not too far away. This place is a hidden gem.

I stay here a few times a year & always love my stay! Such a great place in the heart of the West Virginia mountains. Great location and not far from Morgantown.Rooms: Rooms are so comfortable and a great place to recharge.Food & drinks: The cozy dinners are wonderful and such a relaxing & high-end experience.

Update: I really love this place. We have spent the past year going back there to celebrate birthdays, nights out with friends, etc. The cozy dinners are excellent! Book ahead because they fill up fast. If you see crab cakes, ask for extra cakes and extra sauce. Trellis should bottle and sell that sauce!!! Anyone getting married, celebrating, the garden in the back is the loveliest backdrop for photos, exchanging vows, etc. A real gem.I love this place. My husband and I bike along the trail nearby, and stop here for lunch on weekends. It's literally a modern homestead, with the most gorgeous gardens and great food. it is so relaxing sitting on their porch, surrounded by plants and the gardens...it felt like we were worlds away from the din of the big city.Warning - if you like plants, going into the nursery on the property will create the need to buy one of everything. I was surprised to see such a beautifully and thoughtfully curated nursery in a small town. I am dreaming of Lucas' creme brulee potentillas, which I couldn't purchase as I was on a bike (and no room to haul three shrubs back with me!). But I hope to be there for dinner some time soon at the barn across the street, with my SUV and plenty of room for my shrubs! Trellis and Lucas are the nicest people too. We went biking on that trail just so that we could stop there for lunch!Food & drinks: Upscale food.

Modern Homestead lodging is pretty and very comfortable, plus you can peruse their plant offerings. Only drawback is if you are super sensitive to noise because there is some traffic noise in the rooms close to the 4-way stop. We highly recommend this establishment, for the lodging, cafe, and garden center. The owners are very creative and talented. Delightful.

Super cute, modern clean space. The studio apartment was very comfortable for my partner and I during our stay. The added touch of a welcoming note with local tips of places and things to do was nice. The entire place felt and looked newly remodeled. Easy to find! I book through Airbnb, quick and easy communication with host. I highly recommend a stay here!

Only were there for lunch, but their sandwiches were great, and priced right! $6 each, and they looked to have picked the greens while we waited. Few options, but delicious. They also have lots of pastries and drinks. Recommended for lunch!

We moved to Morgantown in August (middle of pandemic), and my parents just visited for the first time from TN. We were eager to take them out for a special meal, and we found the perfect spot with Trellis Cafe. The meal was delightful, service excellent, and the atmosphere warm and inviting. Chef Trellis Smith created a beautiful meal; our table had salads, crab cakes and chicken piccata for main dishes, and almond cake with berries for dessert, along with hot tea and french press coffee. Everything was lovely, from the food to the design of the space and the simple floral arrangements at the tables. We moved from Oxford, MS, known for its restaurant offerings and award-winning chefs, and I was glad to find a place--and a chef in Trellis smith--that easily competes. It's the best restaurant meal I've had since moving, and we look forward to returning.

The best greenhouse around! The staff is so amazing, kind, and knowledgeable. You can ask any plant of gardening question. They always have a great selection of plants. Plus, cute gifts and yummy treats! Well worth the trip any time of the year.

This was a last minute stay and instead of driving 20+miles for a chain hotel, I opted for the modern homestead. It was a great decision! For the price of a bland and cramped hotel room, I got a beautifully decorated, fairly sized suite with a private entrance. It was decorated to make me feel at home and had all the amenities I needed.If I was grabbing a cup of coffee, just making conversation, or getting the details about the room, the staff were kind and accommodating.I'll be back again for the value and for how nice the staff was.Thank you!

We stayed here for our anniversary in May 2018. Very nice place. Rooms are very clean, have plenty of space and the beds are very comfortable. The only drawback was it is next to an intersection and traffic starts a little early but not a big deal. Will definitely be back.

Nicely decorated. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable room. Great caffeinated beverages available at the coffee shop across the street. Not entirely quiet, with it being on a state route, but that makes it easier to get to local places. Definitely recommended.

I go here every spring to stock up on flowers and other plants for around my house. It's such a unique shop and the owners are so friendly. The shop itself is decorated so wonderfully. The greenhouse and outdoor products and area are organized and easy to navigate.

We have stayed at Morden homestead a few times! We love it! The owners are absolutely amazing! Always a pleasant experience! Rooms are very clean and the decor is great! Very quaint! The coffee is good and the baked goods the owner makes are delicious, so yummy! Will continue to stay here in the future when we come to visit family in Arthurdale! Kid friendly and very accommodating! Love this place! Highly recommend!

The facility itself was fine. We just got caught off guard by some of the things that are different from hotel. Our suite had large kitchen but no real good couch or common living room area. Good value and much more relaxed than hotel. Great for families in summer with BBQ area.

Tathams is a quaint little place that packs quite the surprise!! We went there this evening for their monthly dinner. We were going to get take-out, as they were already booked. However, while waiting, the waiter asked if we would like to eat in, rather than take- out. We said yes, that would be great! The waiter then set the table & brought us ice water & some rolls with butter. The rolls had a crispy exterior & the lightest interior of any dinner roll I've ever had. They were delicious!! Next we were given a salad that was the essence of freshness. The dressing, balsamic fig is my new guilty pleasure!! Then came the dinner, consisting of a chicken breast with mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes, and broccolini. The chicken breast was so tender it melted in your mouth. The mushroom sauce was the perfect accompaniment. The mashed potatoes & the broccolini, needless to say, were also delicious. The coup de grace was a homemade spice cake topped with baked pears & homemade whipped cream. It was definitely the most moist cake I've had in a long, long time!! Trellis is an amazing chef, and the waiter was top notch. My partner & I are both handicapped, & the waiter was so helpful. He was also very friendly & had a smile on his face the entire time. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the price couldn't be beat. I would highly recommend Tathams to anyone desiring a fabulous dinner!!!

What a phenomenal little gem. From the warm welcome to my pristine suite, the coffee shop and nursery, to my fabulous latte prepared by Trellis... everything is perfect. This place is a peaceful breath of fresh air. Im writing this from the front porch swing right now....Tuck this place into your next VW vacation. Its a must!
