My dog passed away three days again and Mercer County Animal Shelter was nice enough to allow me to donate his belongings. They were very kind and helpful.

I adopted my sweet little Gem from this place! She's a great little pup! We went during their Halloween event and only paid $40 for adoption fees. They were sweet enough to give us 3 pup bones for her and she got a little Halloween bandana to boot! She was so cute and I love this little girl! Thanks guys!!

We saw an article in the news about the overcrowding and decided to go look and see if we could keep one from getting euthanized.... upon arriving the lady at the front was nice but this place has issues. Everytime I asked a question about a dog the response was "idk". How do they plan on finding homes if they don't know the breed, don't know if they are good with other dogs, cats, etc, don't know if they're potty trained or if they have any aggressive behaviors? No one is going to bring home a dog they know absolutely nothing about and take the risk of injuring children or other animals. If you know a dog may bite there should be some type of sign or at least someone notifying people. My husband tried to pet a dog that bites males and 4 staff members said nothing but the sponsor finally saw and immediately notified him. The dogs are being punished for having a poorly run facility. I understand they have too many but this was one of the most unorganized shelters I have seen. We ended up going to the Raleigh humane society and getting our perfect Lil man. Why? Because staff knew the dogs. They had information that was necessary to adopt him. This facility needs help and it's not fair to the animals there.

We drove out there to look for a puppy, they didn't have any but the staff was very friendly & helpful, offering to show us other dogs that were available.BTW, pet finder results are not accurate at all when looking online for animals, we found this out on this visit also.

Great place adopted our 3rd "pound puppy", the people are great and all the animals just want to be loved. They take great care of the animals they have there. Our fur baby has been with us for 3 weeks now and he's had no issues, healthy and happy

We was there on 8/25/2020. Very disappointed. The web site Mercer County Animal Shelter has shows many small dogs for adoption. There was none there the day we went. They should take the pictures of the small dogs off is there is none to adopt. The cages with the big dogs was messy. I'll look else were for a small dog

The staff was friendly but the sponsors of dogs need to be more knowledgeable about the breeds of dogs they are sponsoring and not talk to people like they don't know what they are talking about if they have raised that breed before.

There was another couple there to pick up a dog there and they was told to be there by noon. Well they were there, but the dog they picked out was already gone. We were thinking about dropping ourdog off,but after hearing about the other couple's plight we thought against it..

Someone was bringing their dog over there and the dog was a little hyper it didn’t know what was going on. One of the staff members say, “don’t let it jump on me.” Very rudely. First of all, if you’re going to be in that profession, don’t be rude to the person bringing in there dog. There could be a reason why they were having to get rid of their dog, and she had the audacity to be rude to that person and be rude to the dog basically? No, that really done me in going over there. I have adopted two dogs from there and never had a problem but today done it for me.

I adopted my first dog from here and it was a wonderful experience! Also the price you pay for the dog includes initial shots and spay/neuter, which is an awesome deal!!And to the gentleman who said he won't be donation anything because they are a kill shelter is silly. Just so you are aware sir, the less donations they get the more animals they must euthanize, so if you truly care, please rethink your decision.Thank you Mercer County Animal Shelter for my Macie, she's my best friend:)

They recommended a kitten to us that was perfect for what we were looking for. His name was Oreo (now Atticus) and is a very happy, well-adjusted kitty. The staff is very knowledgeable and definitely have love for the animals in their care. This place is a lot busier than I thought a small-town shelter would be yet they are on top of everything, and always with a smile. I definitely recommend you coming here to "rescue" your next family member.

Great staff, volunteers, and PETS! I can't thank these people enough for their dedication. Adoption fees cover the important vaccines AND spay/neuter. If you're looking for a cat or dog, please check here!

Adopted kittens and was great but these babies were way to young to be put up for adoption. Should have been fostered and finished being weened, having proper vet care to take care of infection in eyes.I am grateful though for the follow through with calls and setting up appointments and vouchers to have them fixed when old enough. Unfortunately most people dont know and or dont care enough to take the proper care of such young babies they end up on the streets or back in shelters.

Adopted a kitten that seemed extremely young and was very sick. She passed away a week after I got her. Took her to the vet twice there was nothing more I could do for her I did everything I could to save her she was just too sick. Heard a story from another lady that had the same issue with a cat she adopted there. Won’t be going back

I adopted one of the black lab mix puppies (he was 1 of 5 left) on 9/22 and his name is Buster Brown. He has chocolate brown on the top of his head and ears, and a white chest. They had given him something for worms and the first couple of days were rough, with a trip to the vet the next week because he was still vomiting live worms. A trip to the vet, reworming and back this week for his 2nd puppy shots. He is up to 14 lbs. and smart as a tack. Thanks! I am interested in talking to the owners that turned in the litter, because he loves to bury his rawhides in the covers of my bed, and went straight into his little "dog house" on the back porch. He is a very vocal puppy and I have heard him howl once. It was quite funny.

Mercer County Animal Shelter is a very special place with very special people! They have a big job to do, but they do it with a lot of love! The animals are so precious just needing a nice, loving home!

I got my dog there. Clean, well-run, always need good homes. Saves thousands of lives each year. Wonderful people. Always needs donations, such as puppy food, bleach, cleaning supplies, leashes and collars, etc.

was lied to about them saying they were a no kill shelter. i do not take stray animals there anymore. I figure they have a better chance of survival on their own. I have taken care of many stray animals, as my house is the last one on top a hill, so they have no where to go but down where people chased them up. in the past, some employees were hateful when I called.

Dogs seem to be cared for. But extremely underfed. Cats are treated amazing it seems. All the animals are super happy. Would be nice if they kept the lobby less cramped and cleaner.

All I can say is wow!! Me and my girlfriend found a stray and immediate brought it to the shelter and one of the volunteers said and I quote " I need to go to lunch before I choke her. Her being my girlfriend. Yeah you’re running an awesome shelter. I get your shelter is full but just tell us you can't take the dog instead of being arrogant and rude.

Love that they're a no kill shelter, they did keep a cat out roaming the room, they knew would attack ppl and it has attack several ppl including children. The cat wasnt stable to be adopted much less out of its holding. Other than that the manager's were friendly and the animals were ckean and fed.
