Very bad experience. Went in to surrender a stray cat who was pregnant. While waiting to speak with the person at the desk I overheard her advised someone over the phone to "shoot the dog" if it comes on the persons property. There was no concern or remorse or encouragement that they would look into the situation.When she finally got to me I told her I had seen the sign that they were not taking animals so I wanted to see if there was a waiting list. She asked what was going on with the cat and why I was surrendering her. I told her she was a stray who was pregnant and I unfortunately couldn't keep her. As soon I said pregnant she put a piece of paper in front of me and started talking to someone else in the office. She told them to get a quarantine room ready and that they would be spaying her and terminating her pregnancy.I understand that not all shelters have the resources they need but I was shocked by the inhumane attitude of this animal shelter.I would not trust them with another animal.

This place is amazing! The layout is the best I ever seen and they take pride in caring for their animals. We adopted Mr. Sneaker. He is so sweet and loving I’m very happy we chose him.

I love the people who work and volunteer t here. My family just adopted a puppy from there and he is so sweet and playful.

They said the dog would not harm cats, they lied. It killed by wonderful cat of 18 years. When I called to tell them what happened all I was told "well sometimes Huskies do this" yes more so when the Husky was cross breed with a wolf! Take a look at the picture below that is the last image I have of my beautiful Serendipity before putting him in the cold ground. I hope this image haunts you forever Mason County Shelter!

County shelters are intended for animals that have no where else to turn, yet county after county turns them away daily, adds you to a "list" if your lucky. I can't count the counties I've lived in that span over 5 states, and never ever have I encountered the lack of compassion, care, respect, borderline abuse that I have encountered here from this area /state .. To someone who just came back to the area after spending several years away ... it's appalling, disgustingly sad at the general mentality when it comes to animals, especially cats, this leaves a very bad interpretation of what the communities/neighborhoods are like... if not for health issues I would not be here and I find it embarrassing the lack of care these babies are treated with. . Everyone's answer to the problem is "just stop feeding them", leave them in the parking lots, neighborhoods, wherever one to chooses to drop it, but just don't feed them... ppl that's sad ... do better

Horrible smell, employees are very rude and unprofessional. They background checked us harshly because they wanted to sell one of their kittens to a specific person even though we got there first and have the appropriate means to adopt. One of the employees had implied we looked like thieves for playing with the cats while another employee told us our dog being unfixed was an issue to us wanting to adopt a cat.

I am a rescuer and have been for many years now so for me to rate a shelter at all is a big deal. The mind set for animals here is different than what I am used to and can be quite tough for me however, the mindset of the warden is very similar to mine which is that they ALL matter. She is absolutely wonderful and will go out of her way to help an animal in need. When I dropped off a bag of dog food she asked if "I wanted to meet her babies." They weren't "animals" or just dogs and cats. They were her babies and you could tell she loved every single one. They don't euthanize unless absolutely necessary which is wonderful. The facility is quite clean considering it's usually just 2-3 people working. One thing I'll say is PLEASE donate food, supplies... anything to help. If you can, volunteer your time as well. It's so desperately needed.

When going to adopt a pet and give information if you have pets or had like I had a dog around 2 years ago before moving back here and they even checked in another state where I did live for vet records .on a dog I never abused and rescued she was found frozen to the ground. I took her in took her to vet appointment's and after I found her a good home they missed one rabies shot which isn't even a year past due and I no longer have the dog. But is holdingthat against me adopting one .I don't think it's right.

Amazing shelter and caring staff! Jessi, Wayne, Judy and everyone at the Mason County shelter work diligently to keep this shelter clean and the pets healthy and happy. The staff can tell you very detailed information on every pet in this shelter showing me that these dogs and cats are getting alot of individual attention!!!Thank you for all you do every day to keep your furkids safe, happy, healthy & fed until they find their forever homes or rescue!!

Pitiful. The smell is atrocious! Employee was very hateful and absolutely no help. Employee was babysitting her grandchildren, was not working. I thought it would get better after the last fiasco, but It did not. County Commission doesn't give a damn.

Wonderful staff that takes amazing care of each animal like they are their own! They are cleaned, fed, and watered every single day!! They take awesome care of the animals and they do everything they can to get them adopted!

Friendly people and they really care about the welfare of each animal that comes into the shelter. They would use money out of their own pockets to help an animal, they use their own vehicles to take one to the vet, to rescue, etc.
