We are so happy with our new family member ! Her name was Queenie...it is now...Autumn ! One of our other cats is soo in love with her. She follows me everywhere ! It only took 3 days for her to completely fit in with our other cats...We found out she is a Ragdoll Tortie Seal Point...Thank you fir all the things you do.

TWICE these people gave the kitten I was adopting to someone else. Don’t bother going here because you and your child will get your heart set on a pet that you’ll never be able to get. We came in months ago to adopt a kitten and found out the one we were coming to meet was already given away to someone else. We still look around and find another kitten that we both thought was adorable, then we were told she was still too small to be adopted. They will not let someone adopt an animal without them getting fixed first and they must be a certain weight to go through the surgery. Despite wanting to take her that day and get her fixed once she was a little older ourselves, we were told that we had to fill out adoption papers and wait until she was older. I offered to pay the adoption fee that day to ensure she would still be there. We were promised that when she was big enough to be fixed they would let us know. I left multiple messages and never got a return call. Finally I get ahold of someone and I’m told they don’t hold animals and she was given away. We’ll go to Jefferson county animal shelter from now on. Paying the higher adoption fee there is better than telling a nine year old that they gave away our kitten…again.

I got my new service kitten today, Hancock county animal shelter was so sweet it helping me fit to a kitten, they are so good about how they adopt them out. The young man that helped me the first day, was so loving, and caring, I have a great respect for him. Thank you for filling a void in my heart, ❤️

Alannah was wonderful! There was great communication when adopting our dog. When we did the meet and greet with our two dogs, our older one was very stressed out since he was a shelter dog before we got him. Alannah saw this and was very accommodating and let us bring the dog we adopted to our home to see how they would interact. Everyone got along great, I am so thankful she let us do that. The adoption process was so easy and everyone else that we interacted with at the shelter were so nice and welcoming. I cannot say thank you enough!

They gave us a sick cat and refused to be held accountable for it. Claimed he was healthy the day before when they had him, blatant lie. A cat doesn’t get that sick overnight.

I drove a 3 hour trip round trip to get a cat that I really wanted, and when I spoke to one of the employees on the phone, he had told me that the cat was okay with kids and other cats since I have a 3 month old daughter. When I arrived, the cat wouldn’t even let employees touch it, cornered itself in the cage, and hissed. I drove nearly 3 hours with my 3 month old baby and came home with nothing. Unprofessional is an understatement. Extremely disappointed.

I live about 2 hours away and wanted a specific kitten. I called around 3:30 pm on Wednesday and asked if they would hold the cat for me until tomorrow afternoon around 3 (they close at 4 so it'd be impossible for me to pick up the cat that day). They said it was no problem, took my name, my phone number, and I planned on getting it Thursday afternoon. I called again asking if I was still okay to come in and pick it up and a different woman answered, said it was already adopted, kept cutting me off, and was very unsympathetic to my situation. Apparently, they'd given the kitten away to someone else and not called to notify me, saying they can't "hold" animals. One, this is VERY unprofessional. The lady explained that the woman who adopted the cat earlier was the same woman who dropped the cat off on Wednesday morning. So tell me, what was the reason she dropped them off in the first place? I was willing to drive 2 hours for this kitten and treated unfairly on the phone. Please educate yourselves on where you adopt cats from. They're unprofessional, clearly don't know the procedures of their job, and they aren't a dependable establishment.

do not take your pets to this animal shelter. I have had a terrible experience and they are very unprofessional. I had taken my kitten there to get a declawed and to make sure that she was healthy, and tried to schedule an appointment to adopt her back. After days and days of trying to get a hold of the workers there, I find out that they sold her to a Petsmart an hour away. They will get rid of your animals, all they want is the money. Do not take your pets to this animal shelter.

Great experience! Got a wonderful cat up to date on everything. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and went the extra mile. Be careful about the negative reviews that are on here, it was obviously the same person posting under different names multiple times because she was mad being too late to get the animal she wanted.

Called them over the summer to check if the dead bat🦇 in our yard had RABIES and NOBODY from the Hancock County Animal Shelter ever showed up--although a female phone rep told me that Nicole or somebody else would definitely stop by to check the bat. 👎Unprofessional and disappointing👎, to say the least! We had to finally dispose of the possibly-rabid bat ourselves🤨

We were there to drop off some donations & they let us visit the cattery and see where the dogs were housed. It is a nice facility and all the pets are well cared for. The people that volunteered there were very nice and care a lot about what they do.

Had Nicole do nothing but lie to me about my dog I had to sign over to them because I had to go to a nursing home. She wouldn't answer any of my phone calls to see how diamond was doing because I was concerned about my best friend! When I had someone else call from their phone she answered right away and I confronted her about why she wasn't being straightforward with me, needless to say I never got a honest answer.

We have fostered a beautiful ridgeback named Dottie for the past few months. She is our world!Nicole, Kathy and Hope you ladies are fabulous beyond measure. Dottie is the perfect match for our family, we have had issues with behavior but have dealt with worse from our teenagers lol.The shelter is clean, the fur babies are cared for by a small staff of fur lovers. You can tell how much love and care these amazing people put into caring for them. Please donate to them if you afford it, this is a shelter that has many K9s to adopt, who need a little love.

Why isn't there a 0 star button on here????? You told me you had the cat and you would hold it for me just to have someone else adopt it?? Saying "we can't hold animals" then don't ask for my information just to not hold it. I live 2 hours away and would pick up the kitten the next day. Ignorant staff do not recommend adopting from here if you can't adopt right away considering they couldn't wait 12 hours just for me to come the very next day to adopt the kitten.

I think ignoring applications for animals is neglectful. I brought in a cat and the vet treated her, but the people at the shelter wouldn't answer calls 80% of the time when she was ready for adoption. Basically, I stopped trusting them and took the cat myself and found it a home. This facility was very stressful and not my favorite experience.

Only giving one star because zero isn't an option. I've dealt with these caretakers firsthand. Unbelievable to tell someone who is willing to drive 2 hours + for a kitten they promised to hold just to give it away to a girl who dropped it off the day before ?? Where is the sense.

Miley was stolen from his owner in March 2013. Miley is a 2 yr old black Poodle mix that was taken from Hancock House. Miley was collateral damage like his owner at the hands of Hancock House and its owners and the Hancock Animal Shelter. Miley had every right to be at Hancock House. Hancock House even collected Money each moth for Miley to be there, but then they said he was there illegally. Miley belongs to Laurie Fegal Witzberger and the Hancock Co animal shelter had no rights to him. This shelter doesnt even deserve ONE star!!!!!!!!!

Saw RATS here! Big ones, little ones. No one seemed at all concerned when the RATS were pointed out to them. The rats were in the storage area where they keep the animal food.
