This is a beautiful place in a very beautiful and quiet town. The restaurant has great food and fast service. The people here are very friendly.The cheese is wonderful, I would recommend getting the cheese plate to try out their local made cheese.Their house made sausage is great as well.Make sure you bring cash as they are cash and check only. But the prices are good and reasonable.

This is an amazing restaurant! Everything was 10/10. The food, the prices, the ambiance, the service. I live about 4 hours away in Virginia and I’m trying to figure out when I can get back there. The Hutte is what dreams are made of. If you like good food, a good vibe, and exploring other cultures: get to Helvetia immediately and eat at The Hutte!

Is the long drive out to this place worth the time and effort???Yes, ABSOLUTELY!!!!We got a ham dinner and the bratwurst. Ham was good. Bratwurst was amazing. Rosti was perfect. Sauerkraut and apple sauce were both excellent. Cheese was delicious. Salad was fresh with delicious dressing and lots of fresh veggies. Fresh flowers and cheese plate come with the meal. We are in the library.If this is Swiss cooking than I am officially neutral (thank you). Scenery and Service are great. The beauty of the spot can not be properly expressed in words or pictures.

Cash or check only - don't forget because The Hütte is amazing! We brought family from out of town hoping to impress and they did not disappoint! Amazing food, friendly staff and an atmosphere to die for (especially the patio). The Swiss cheese is made in house and it melts in your mouth. Delicious meals with no detail left undone. The sauerkraut was simply divine...even the applesauce had a certain joie de vivre! We will definitely be back for more. Thank you to the Hütte staff for a wonderful meal and a beautiful memory. See you soon!Kid-friendliness: The outdoor dining patio was the perfect place to eat with our kids. They devoured every bite of their food! Thanks, Hütte!

I take my family to Helvetia to have lunch/dinner at the Hutte when we travel to West Virginia. My Mother took me there when I was little and loved the sweet shrub out front. It has been there over 50 years! The staff, food and atmosphere are wonderful. I love taking time to stop and slow down from traveling while they prepare our food. Everything is hand made, truly made and served with kindness. I was very impressed the way they altered their menu to accommodate large crowds when expected on weekends. Definitely try the fruit and cheese plate, the salad, the Rosti, saurkraut, and dessert. Love the salad dressing, Rosti and saurkraut! Thank you for being there and letting me enjoy my memories.

My family visited The Hütte again this past week, and we always leave so incredibly happy! We truly feel like we’re visiting a family member’s home to eat a great meal! We absolutely love every nook and cranny you can dine in here. The staff has always been exemplary. Every dish I have ever ordered has been fantastic. You can taste the love that goes into these homemade meals. (I wish I would have remembered to take a photo of our food, but we were living in the moment)We feel incredibly lucky to have this place in our home state. We love this little Swiss paradise!

The food is delicious and full of flavor. Best bratwurst and sauerkraut I've ever had. Worth the trip along the curvy mountain roads to get there. Be warned, on Sunday they do a special only, no dine in (assume covid) and they take cash or check only - no plastic at all. So, get your cash and go. It's worth it.

The price of the food ranges from cheap to expensive, but the portions are very good. The service was alright but the food was phenomenal. I will come back to Helvetia and eat there. The only problem is that I am not entirely sure that this restaurant is 100 % percent authentic Swiss restaurant. I will write a follow up post if I get a chance to go to Switzerland and eat Swiss food.

In the heart of the West Virginia mountains, this historic oasis of a restaurant serves traditional Swiss meals (the original settlers were from Switzerland). The homemade sausage is to die for! The service makes you feel like family and the food is fantastic. Then take a walk, look for the large trout in the river that runs next to the restaurant. Don't miss the post office/general store down the street, and pick up locally made honey, candles, etc. Come back for the Fasnacht Festival (videos on YouTube) in the spring, when the locals bring out the mountain music and everyone has fun scaring off old man winter. Enjoy the beautiful winding mountain roads getting there too. A great place to get away from it all, wifi but no cell service. It's a destination!

Cold and rainy day, but had a great time. The leaves were at full peak. Had lunch at the Hutte restaurant, outside on the porch due to Covid restrictions but very cosy. Will be back this summer when the new outdoor deck is finished.

My daughter found this place while we were on a short getaway for fall break in WV. Helvetica is about 10 miles from our VRBO in Alexander, which was 20 miles from anywhere. But the trip was worth it! The Hutte is a converted home with each room being a separate dining room. Each is decorated with an homage to the area's past and to its residents. I really enjoyed the general decor, and they apparently go all out for Halloween, as the whole place was heavily accented for the season.The table was served with fresh, homemade white and wheat bread that was awesome. We were also served with a generous plate of tasty Swiss cheese cubes.I'm sorry I didn't get pictures: the presentation was average, but the dishes were not. All meals were served with rosti, sauerkraut, apple sauce and peas. The peas were ok... they were peas, right? I didn't really care for the rosti, pan-fried grated potatoes (a traditional Swiss dish). It was a bit soggy. I prefer my fried potato cakes to be crispier, and they were a little bland. The apple sauce was delicious. Sauerkraut is not everyone's cup of tea, and our group of 5 ran the gamut, regardless, all agreed though it was probably the best they'd ever had.The Zurich Sauerbraten was a very tender and tasty roast beef with a delicious gravy served on noodles. The portion was generous and my daughter and son-in-law shared it plus a bowl of Helvetia Cheese Soup, which was hot, rich and creamy. I thought it was especially good with the bread as a vehicle.I had the bratwurst meal. The veal and pork bratwurst was the best I'd ever had, hands down. I didn't figure out until the end of the meal that a bite of wurst with bread, their hot mustard and sauerkraut was a pretty exquisite mouthful, so do put those together. I'm sure that's not a Swiss offering, but it's still a delicious combo.Overall, well worth the side trip! The town appears to be less than twenty buildings. Take time to visit the general store, which is a throw back in time and museum. It's won't take much time and is just a reminder of their culture and past.Kid-friendliness: Kids will love the decor, especially for holidays.

Zero stars are not possible or that is exactly what I would rate my experience. I visited today with several friends riding motorcycles to have a good meal and enjoy the beautiful day. We called ahead to let the staff know we were coming and there would be 21 people in our party and when we arrived there were only 4 other customers. A family entered after us and the staff ignored me, my girlfriend and a friend and his daughter. Others in our party had to ask for their food repeatedly and after 2 hours of waiting our food had not even begun to be prepared but the family that arrived after us was served and received their meals which were ordered after ours. I left having had nothing for dinner and no explanation. I and the 20 others in my party today will never return.

I drove from Greensboro, NC to eat here several times which is a 10 hour round trip. Well worth it each and every time. Food is delicious, service fantastic and always get an extra meal to bring home. Drive is beautiful, scenery fantastic and the restaurant building very nice.
