I visited as a child years ago and returned today with grandkids. They loved it. We saw a few bear, bison, eagles, wolves, a bobcat and some other animals on our adventure today. The gift shop had some great gifts for the kids. We bought an annual family pass.

Decided to take a small road trip for our Sunday drive this week. Ended up choosing to come here, and it was a nice time. Little bit bummed we missed the river otters (their exhibit closes labor day), but enjoyed the animals that were there. We enjoyed watching the wolves especially. Trail is easy to walk & there is another hiking trail off of the trail through the animals. Super affordable, and the man at the entrance window was very informative. Ladies in the gift shop were very attentive and friendly as well. Weather shelters throughout, and restrooms available as well. Great for kids!

A nice place to enjoy. You can go at your own pace. They have a gift shop that has interesting critters inside. Also inside you can by ice cream and their famous Pepperoni Rolls. Fresh strawberries served on top of my Shortcake. The ice cream tasted homemade. Only $4 to get inside. I thought the guy said $14 but he handed me back my change. He said yes mama $4.

Nice little blacktop trail through the woods to see some of the animals that roam in our state. We took our 6 yr old grandson & he loved it. Leave yourself 2 hours if you want to go slow. We got through in less than an hour because they were closing but we still managed to stop & see each animal & take some pics. Don't forget to try one of the pepperoni rolls in the gift shop! Yum!

All of the birds were absolutely majestic. I really liked that there was a small shelter to get away from the sun in front of the owls because they were relaxing to look at. My favorite was the ocelot because its behavior was curiously friendly (yet wild). It was really fun looking into the pond and spotting a turtle, salamanders, tadpoles, and fish. I was worried there would be a lot of mosquitoes but they were pretty low at the pond. I definitely recommend hats and sunscreen. The bald eagles were beyond beautiful. All of the animals look healthy and happy. The signs at every animal station were very thorough for the homeschooling field trip. The funniest thing we saw was the fox up in the tree. The only suggestion that I would hope for in the future on the signs at each exhibit of animal is that it would have been nice to know how many of each male and female was in each area and if the animals had names. For example we counted five quail and with them being so far away and moving quickly....it would have been a nice thing to try to figure out which were which for conversation. The gift shop was awesome. There was squishing Penny machine for $0.51 and we bought a book afterwards to place them in for only $7.99 each and it came with 2 extra squished coins for collecting. The concessions were fair priced as were the admission fees. All of the staff was extremely friendly as well. The paths were clearly marked and easy to walk with less than 2 miles and several convenient bathrooms that were very clean. We will absolutely go again, because we were unable to see the otters swimming this time, but I am sure once it gets hotter they will be doing that.

The West Virginia State Wildlife Center is a zoo that is different than most other zoos. The animals are either native or introduced to the state, and the animals are kept outdoors in enclosures that tend to be larger than what many other zoos have. The price for admission is only $4 per adult and $0-2 per child. During my visit, I easily found a parking space, and the zoo was not overly crowded with other customers. The employees at the admission booth and the gift shop were very courteous. I saw animals such as elk, bison, deer, wolves, otters, eagles, pheasants, raccoons, foxes, groundhogs, fishers, bear, and boars. The zoo also contains a weather shelter, walking trail, pavilion, picnic tables, grills, restrooms, and fishing pond.

A pleasant way to spend an afternoon! Well worth the drive 30-40 minutes out of the way, and small entrance fee. The walkway is mostly flat asphalt, with plenty of shade and benches. The animal pens were smaller than I expected. There's good signage for each animal. I did wish there were more employees around for information about the center and how the animals are cared for.

I bring my daughter a lot. It's only a mile and a quarter of a walk but don't underestimate it! Some parts are a little steep and I can imagine them giving someone in a wheelchair or scooter some difficultly. Also the mountain lion exhibit isn't accessable by wheelchair. Besides this it is very accessible for the whole family and there are plenty of places to sit and rest. The gift shop/country kitchen is great. They have interesting stuff and the food is really good. Everyone there is really kind.

Loved it! Some of the animals weren't there currently or weren't out so we didn't see them all but we had fun regardless! Great place to visit, nice people, they have some food and drinks if you need anything and a gift shop.

We had such a good time here. The facilities were convenient, clean, and accommodating. The staff was lovely, informative, and hardworking. The animals were wonderful, with the grounds seemingly well kept. Would definitely recommend.

Great little place for a stop. I loved the three wolf pups. However, fences and dirty windows sometimes made seeing the animals difficult. A raised path would have made a world of difference.

We had family in from out of town and brought them here to help the kids unwind. I love that they have put weather sheds throughout the trail. They are actually fairly large and easily accessible via a wheelchair. Most of the animals were just lounging but that is expected. There was one vacant habitat but that didn't seem to bother anyone. Considering the price to get in this is an amazing little gem and I am glad our community keeps it going.

All the exhibits were great. The only thing was there was no wolf this time. You can go even if it rains because they have weather shelters throughout. Great for kids and families.
