This is a great outdoor supply store with affordable essentials,and a charming coffee place. There are also great discounted gears and apparels. The owners are very welcoming and kind but also incredibly knowledgeable, making it a delightful experience.

I'm in NRG 20+ times a year. I used to love waterstone, and stopped at least once a trip, but the new employees seem much less friendly and welcoming than I remember at this formerly nice local shop. The younger guy with scraggly beard and hat at the register was super unfriendly/unhelpful. Acted very inconvenienced when I asked to try on shoes. Asked to try two sizes, he brought out one which was too small. When I asked if he had the bigger size I had asked to try, he exasperatedly sighed and went in the back again for the second pair. (Which was in stock.... so why not bring it out the first time I asked?). The second pair fit much better, but I decided to buy elsewhere mostly just because I didn't like the guy's additude. Love supporting local business, but not if it means dealing with cranky bros at the counter. Waterstone should get back to hiring fun, helpful people who like to talk climbing with their clientele. The guy I dealt with just seemed super inconvenienced and unhappy to be there. He was ultimately the reason I left the shop without purchasing anything. Two stars for a solid selection, but the customer service experience was really lacking on my last trip in. Would have likely walked out with $200+ of gear if not for my experience with that one employee.

We LOVE Water Stone! We have gone in everyday we have been here! Great gear, clothes, and a coffee shop in the back with drinks and pastries! You are extra lucky if you find Eleanor Marshalls’s baked goods there! Fun store to browse around!

Been going here regularly for years now and I have to say I am extremely let down by the new (relatively new) owners.The products they have been getting in are not as quality as they used to be and are mainly aimed at outdoor "fashion" clothing with less focus on utility and quality. Maybe that's just where the market is, but it is still a bummer. Not only that, but the new owners can be standoffish and unfriendly in the store. They have made some strange comments to friends of mine and seem to only want customers that are exactly like them (ie. white, cis, straight, upper class, etc.). Tough to write this because I like to support small businesses, but not sure I can continue to support this one as much as I would like to. Hopefully things will change, I still stop by here and there to see if it still continues to be terrible.

Great outdoor supply store carrying all the essentials at a great price! We loved the sock monkeys hidden all over the store! Sale prices on clearance items were likewise very reasonable, and they had a rack of consignment on the top floor. My son especially loves the climbing wall!

Cute local shop! Loved the small rock climbing wall and consignment section upstairs. Good variety of items. Seems more tailored to rock climbing and hiking. Coffee shop in the back is also a must.

Terrific resource for avid climbers as well as casual outdoor enthusiasts. Huge selection of gear and apparel (I picked up some Saloman hiking boots). Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again on our next trip to the gorge.

This place is excellent. I bought hiking boots from them on vacation, and got amazing help finding the right pair. Even better, when I went home and the boots had a defect they solved the problem quickly and easily. Give them all the money in your outdoor gear budget!

Went here with my girls, got great information on local, kid friendly hikes. Hired a climbing guide from the guide service and got some great trail running shoes and some other gear. The staff is super friendly, and the coffee shop is likely the best espresso you will ever have. The staff are helpful, and listen, which is the most important skill anyone can have. I love this shop, and highly recommend them when you are in town.

This shop is amazing! The staff is so kind and willing to provide helpful advice and information about both gear and areas to climb at the New! One staff member even drew us a map of the approach to a crag we were seeking out. They also have great deals and amazing coffee, definitely stop in if you’re in the area!

Came here to find some climbing shoes, the guy who helped me was so patient and knowledgeable. I tried on multiple pairs of shoes and also many different sizes trying to figure out exactly which ones were right for me. His patience was genuinely appreciated. The owner was very friendly too! 100% the place to go for your rock climbing accessories. The shoe selection is fantastic and the staff are really helpful and patient about letting you try a ton on to find the perfect shoe. And the rock wall helps you to feel confident about your shoe choice. They have a great selection of gear too and are super knowledgeable about the area.

What a great place! Maura helped me with climbing shoes (of which they had a great selection), and even had my huge size. I had been looking at climbing packs and was kind of overwhelmed, but they had a variety of climbing specific packs and I got exactly what I wanted (a mystery ranch). Helpful, friendly, I wish it was closer to DC!

My husband and I went to buy a couple pairs of shoes today. The lady was helpful but while we were trying the shoes on, she went to help a few other customers and was being really loud and dropping horrible language. Loved the shoes but will buy online simply due to a few F bombs and a G**** a few times. Local isn’t everything if the locals are cussing at God.
