I'm not happy with the management of this property. We stayed there 3 weeks ago and then after 3 weeks they sent us a bill for 400 dollars for a broken bed. We are so disappointed about this situation. While we stayed there we didn't break any beds and they saying it after 3 weeks. They charged for the bed frame 150 & for the box spring 250. Could you believe this 😞All those beds are very old and they sent us a picture of under the bed. If you going to stay in a hotel or somewhere do check under your bed. Who knows it was broken before we checked. Also before we checked they charged us for damage insurance. So I'm wondering what happened to that insurance now 🤔Please stay away from this people. I'm not recommending this place to anyone. This is the most disappointed place we ever visited in the United States.

My experience at this place was nothing short of a scam. Upon checking out, I was initially charged $150 for my stay. However, to my shock and disbelief, three weeks later, they added an extra $250 to my bill, alleging that I had broken a bed in the room. Not only did I not break any furniture, but I also found the room to be poorly maintained and unclean upon arrival. The staff wasn’t even considerate about the issue when I tried to dispute the charges, making the whole experience even more frustrating. It's clear that this place is more interested in squeezing every penny out of its guests than providing a decent service. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this dishonest establishment.

I recently stayed at this place for a three-day vacation, and I must say, it was a complete disappointment. The place looked old and rundown, with beds making noises, taps not working, and a lack of basic sanitary needs provided. Upon opening the cupboards, a foul smell emanated, reminiscent of bugs infesting the place. Despite tolerating these issues for the sake of our trip, I was shocked to discover a $400 charge on our account, claiming damages to their beds. This accusation is completely false, as we did not damage anything during our stay. When we requested pictures and more details, they remained silent. It seems they are attempting to cover up their own negligence by unfairly charging their guests. This is by far one of the worst places I have ever stayed in West Virginia, and I strongly advise against choosing this place for your accommodation.

Can you believe this?! Three weeks ago, We stayed at this place and now they have the nerve to hit me with a whopping $400 bill for a supposedly broken bed. And get this: they initially charged me $150, then had the audacity to add another $250 three weeks later! Absolute nonsense! We didn't even damage anything during our stay, yet they're trying to pin it on us with some ridiculous picture from under the bed. Talk about a scam! My advice? Stay far away from this place. They'll bleed your credit card dry with their sneaky tactics.

We've stayed at Canaan Realty homes 5 separate times, and they have all been very close to advertised. Each home had its own level of upkeep and their own appeal, which is evident in their photos. The realty company is easy to work with and is responsive when major things need attention.

Canaan Realty has been our go to realty company in Canaan Valley for over 8 years now. We have used others during our 20 years of vacation home ownership in Canaan Valley, but they have earned our business and we enjoy working with Jenni and her team. They work hard for both the home owner and the renter to insure a great experience for everyone. Our experience with other realty companies had one consistent issue, their ownership was never to be found when you had an issue. That's not the case with Jenni. She's always available for us and she'll be available for you too!

"It will stop smelling eventually." I will never forget those words. We rented a house in Timberline and it was ok. The pictures showed a little playground area in the backyard. Pictures were taken when the playground was new. By the time we rented the house, the playground was in disrepair. First strike. It was close to Sandrun Lake and had a canoe to take out on the lake. Not a bad set up. By the third day of ten, something had crawled under the house and died and was starting to smell. It happens, however, it was late June and starting to get a bit warmer. We called the office to see if they could remove it because the smell was getting pretty bad in the main bedroom. The guy on the phone said "It will stop smelling eventually." What?! No offer to remove it, no offer to remedy the situation in any way. Strike two. By day five, the smell was in the whole house and still nothing from the realty company. I had to crawl under the house and remove a possum that had been mauled by something. When contacting the realty company again (fourth time) the same guy said it was the first he heard of it. Strike three and four. Also the grout on the kitchen floor tile was not there anymore in places and my little girl's toe got caught between the tiles and created a nasty wound that kept her from doing anything on the back half of the trip. Strike five. When all these matters were raised upon checkout, the lady at the desk offered to refund our cleaning fee. $80. That's it. Strike six. Will never use them again. We have been to Canaan 5 times since then and have used their competitor every time with great results. Avoid this place. They're terrible.EDIT: Downgraded to 1 star per response. This was not terribly recent. It was 3 years ago. The cabin is Wildlife. You rent that cabin, yes? I am not mistaken on who I rent from or who I called to have fix the issue! So no man has ever answered your phone? Because a man did, and he said what was in the review. As I stated, we have rented 5 times since then from your competitor. Your response reaffirms that decision and lets other customers know who you are.

We rented a house in Timberline through Canaan. The place was in good shape, well maintained and stocked. Checking in and out was straightforward. The booking process on the website is user friendly, what you see is what you get.We enjoyed the peace and quiet and cool temps. My kids enjoyed kayaking on the lake near the agency office (free access to the lake + kayaks for people renting properties with them).You will want to book months ahead for popular times.

My family and I stayed at "The Chalet" at mirror lake managed by Canaan reality MLK weekend 2022. The cabin is out dated and poorly maintained and the management is even worst. I DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING WITH CANAAN REALITY. Below is a list of things you'll find if you do decide to rent this unit, you'll regret booking!Master mattress is years beyond replacement, and caves into the center, it is not possible for 2 people to sleep on this bed. This is a huge issue when you go on a vacation for rest and you can't sleep. This was brought to managements attention the first morning of our stay after a horrible nights sleep, nothing was done to fix this problem throughout our stay. This is a problem that is indicative of poor management. Jenny, the manager would not even take a call or return a call over the four nights were stayed, this was very frustrating. She let her employee field all calls who had no ability to fix any problems because she's not the manager. Considering how early this was brought to the attention of management, (and yes, we do understand this is a rural area) some communication from management would have shown at least some level of concern. (FYI- a quick Google search shows there is a mattress store 24 miles from here, not an unreasonable distance considering the price we're paying and that Canaan Realty is a hospitality service).Jenny the manager of Canaan reality is unprofessional. She wouldn't return phone calls. She did finally text me to tell me she would have to talk to the owner and see if she could issue a discount. She stopped responding to text and would not give any updated info throughout our 4 night stay. She did give a %15 discount the day after our trip was over, still not worth the cost of the rental. She doesn't care about her her clientele and it shows.Water pressure is a significant issue, not even enough pressure to wash hands after going to the restroom. Shower head is too low for anyone over 5ft 5in. Having to time our showers based on when water may or may not be available is unacceptable.Kitchen is poorly provisioned and is a mishmash of old chipped plates and bowls. Overall all of the sheets, towels, blankets, etc look and feel like they were purchased at a thrift store. The bathroom is beyond outdated. The dryer provided is so noisy it can't be run to dry ski gear and not disturb the whole house. And although I love the idea of supporting your son by buying firewood (at almost twice the cost of down the road) it was all green and wouldn't burn.Aside from the mattress, none of these would be issues on their own, but together they add up to a pretty sad experience, particularly given the price charged for this rental. We don't expect the top of the line accommodations, but we do expect to feel welcome and comfortable -- this rental is not welcoming or comfortable. Honestly, we've had $75 hotel rooms that were much nicer and more comfortable than this Chalet.

There is no method of posting a property-specific review on the realty site which makes one wonder where the published reviews come from. Our large multi-family group recently stayed at Larkwood Lodge for a weekend of skiing at Timberline Mountain. We weren’t looking for luxury and were grateful to find a place with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms we needed. Unfortunately, the safety issues and lack of advertised amenities were problematic from the start. Our arrival was marked by the discovery that the basement fireplace flue was not connected properly, and the doors were broken so that a log could easily fall out. There were no carbon monoxide detectors and only one smoke detector in the main stairwell. The pool table was broken and unable to be used. We reported these issues to the rental company, who responded by sending portable space heaters. These were unable to be used because the electric receptacles were loose and the plugs wouldn’t stay in place. The pool table was unable to be fixed so was unavailable for the duration of our stay. The basement bedrooms did not have adequate fire escape egress; several of the kids ended up sleeping in the common area as a result.We soon discovered that the plumbing was a major issue, with water becoming scalding hot after it had been appropriately adjusted in the showers, then abruptly shutting off after a few minutes. This happened repeatedly regardless of the number of showers in operation at a time. The same scald/shutoff cycle happened at the kitchen sink as well. Shower curtains were moldy. Knives were all dull. Furniture was broken and old/uncomfortable with compressed sofa cushions and uncomfortable bedding. Climate control was a challenge with some spaces remaining very cold while others were unbearably hot. Potholders available for use were in such poor condition that one of the kids burned themselves when removing food from the oven. The loose receptacles made it challenging to charge our phones/devices during our stay. WiFi was unavailable for most of the weekend despite resetting.Some of these issues were minor inconveniences that truthfully would have been overlooked if there hadn’t been such major safety concerns. I did see on one review from May 2021 that another family brought up similar concerns and were told they were being addressed. The rental company representative did listen to our concerns, but it was clear that this property has been neglected for a long time and has not been properly vetted by the rental company. This property provided shelter and was in reasonable proximity to skiing so it served that purpose but it was otherwise a major disappointment.We love this area and enjoy travelling as a larger family group but will be much more careful about where we choose to stay in the future. We were very disappointed with the response of the realty company.

What a beautiful area... very scenic. Not much in the arena of swimming though. The Mirror Lake was mostly dried up. The workers at Canaan Realty said it would be fixed in September and be full again. Big bummer! Not much to offer restaurant-wise... that is good anyway. The house -starry night- could have been better cleaned and maintained. Needs new carpet, deck furniture, couches (new or at least cleaned) and a paint job. Also the side yard is a mud pit so no place for kids to play. But the space inside is great! TV's and dvd players in every room which is great.

9 of us (5 kids) stayed at the Evergreen Cabin this past weekend and we had a blast. Very nice cabin, plenty of space, clean and had everything we needed. Location was perfect, as we went snow tubing about 5 minutes away and also went to Blackwater Falls sled park about 15 minutes away. Would definitely do it again and working with Canaan Realty was super easy and they were very helpful.

The cabin itself is beautiful but in serious need of upgrades. There were alot of damages to the cabin including windows that would not close. The TV was an extremely outdated model with a fuzzy picture. Made for a long day on a rainy day with kids. The grill is a very tiny charcoal grill that was not nearly big enough to cook for 6 people. It was a relaxing vacation in a beautiful area but for the price I would not stay again.

I recently rented a house through Canaan Realty and could not have been happier with my experience. Everything was perfect. Mirror lake is my new favorite getaway. It is beautiful and peaceful. Everyone in the Valley is so friendly and welcoming. This will quickly become my home away from home. I wish there was a way to rate it with ten stars; it is a little piece of paradise.

Canaan Realty took over our rental once Timberline Realty shuttered. We were not happy with Timberline's maintenance. We are happy that Canaan Realty took over the rental and they fixed most of the issues. They've been flexible and easy to work with and hope to work with them again. I also rented through them back in 2004 and they were great then too. Thank you Canaan Realty!! Please keep Canaan Valley Wild & Wonderful!

Had a great experience with these folks on our first rental weekend. They were professional, organized, and went out of their way to help when our plans unexpectedly changed. Cabin rentals in WV (or anywhere, for that matter) can really be hit or miss, so I would definitely recommend Canaan Realty for maximizing the chance that your stay is a hit!

I used VRBO to rent a 1 bedroom condo managed by Canaan Realty. The listing included internet; however, the unit didn't have internet. At first, they told me that service would come on in the morning but it didn't come on, ever. I requested to be reimbursed for cellular data charges that I paid and they said no. They told me that out of the 70 units they manage, I was the only one that complained so it was not a problem. The staff also said that internet coverage was not guaranteed because it was West Virginia but I could go to a different building for service next time I come and need internet.Additionally, the front door could not be opened by me or 2 others upon arrival. 30 minutes after we called for help someone came. We requested that it get fixed and it was never fixed.Not one of the 4 staff I spoke with expressed sympathy or understanding at these inconveniences. They had pat answers at the ready which indicated to me that they knew about these problems and were not planning to fix them, ever.

Rented #79 condo in Deerfield(which is a beautiful condo)in February 2020, before Covid. The price to rent it was $800 at that time. We cancelled our reservations. Called back today to rent the same unit, for the same dates and it was going to cost $1,000 now. We have been renting this condo for for a very long time. I hope the owner knows that they will no longer give us the 3 nights, 4th night free and have lost a long-time customer. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND RENTING FROM THIS COMPANY. Wouldn't even give them a one star if I didn't have to.

Several of us came to Canaan and stayed at 5 Acre Wood through Canaan Realty. Our intention was to kick back with some movies and enjoy the fireplace and hottub. Out of 3 televisions and 3 dvd players not one of them worked. These were advertised as part of the amenities. A little disappointing. Thank goodness for the good company.

We tried reserved rental house and they didn't provide any information about details "how to send" or etc and after two weeks lady called me and start to arguing with me with rude speech and with high volume of voice. They should be nice and smooth with customers, specially some one paying 3300$ for week rental. I rented a condo unit in Timberline which was a joke. When I complained to Canaan Realty they hardly did anything. There should be guidelines for the condition of these unit by the Real Estate Companies.
