We love Dr Allison Blanton, Dr Sarah Stephenson and Dr Melanie Curry! They have provided excellent care and have made us feel like our pets have top tier care! They have gone above and beyond for our boys. Their staff have been especially caring and compassionate. Big,big shout outs to techs Ginger and Elena who make us feel like they treat our Hank and Bandit like their own. Dr Blanton and Ginger have been especially amazing while navigating Hank’s cancer treatment, they call on their own personal time to check in and are always so helpful with every question we have. We are so grateful for this wonderful staff at Good Shepherd who make our pets feel at home whenever we come in!

I've been taking my pets to Good Shepherd for over a decade and I've recommended them to everyone I know. It's not convenient at all, but it's worth the drive to see vets that I can trust to care for my dogs as if they were their own — and not break the bank while doing so. Dr. Stephenson and Dr. Blanton have been wonderful with all of our pets needs!

I'm reluctant to make this review because I still have an unpaid balance with them that I intend to be honorable and pay off despite feeling I was overly charged to do more harm than help. I fear they'll put it on my credit report if they get upset at the review. So anyone reading, understand I'm taking a potential hit on my credit score to warn you NOT to go here!I should have listened to the negative reviews. But I got sucked in by the emotional manipulations they seem to do here and don't even realize they are doing so.They are great at first, as long as they really don't have to provide much care. I was impressed, never had staff be so friendly and want so much details. I've got two senior cats with health issues. Most vets want you out in 5 minutes. They took their time with me. I told them I'm disabled, I'm on very limited income, and I don't drive. They seemed so caring to accommodate me.I was trying to save up to get my 14 year old a dental cleaning. At the same time he started to develop bad breathing issues. I thought allergies, because my 11 year old has bad allergies too. At first we tried steroid shots. But things got worse. Dr. Sarah was even willing to come to my home to give the shots. So I didn't have to walk. I felt like this place really cared. I was told not to tell anyone of this special treatment.Then things got really off, really fast. I brought both cats in for a checkup. I thought the 14 year old was just needing a 2nd shot and so would the 11 year old. I told them how I've been trying to save up for the dental surgery but couldn't get a credit card. I told them how little money I get each month. If only I could make payments. That's when Dr. Sarah said she wanted to perform a Christmas miracle to get my cat the surgery. She said I'd have a "big bill" but not to worry. I could make payments. But again don't tell anyone. She wanted to run some prescreening tests.Then the bad news. It isn't asthma it was heart disease. I was made to believe he was heading to his death bed quickly. The only thing to help him was him to be on 150$ (for 1.5 mo supply) meds for the rest of his life. I was made to believe pills or death. That day I was also made to believe my only option for my other cat's allergies was 130$ Royal Canin food. My bill was around 860$ without the food!Dr. Sarah was also so kind to give me her personal cell number to keep her updated. The 14 year old started progressively getting worse. I kept reporting through texts to her. I felt like she was very dismissive. Like he's going to die there's not much we can do if the meds don't work. But the meds seemed to be making him worse. To the point I was preparing for his death. My gut said stop the meds. I texted and her response was just like she had already written him up for death. I could take him off the meds, his comfort was what's important. There was no, hey maybe these expensive meds are making it worse from her. Once off the meds he's gotten better again. He's still dying, but nothing like it progressed to on those meds that were supposed to save him! He also almost died when he ate the RX food.Then, I tried working with them with the food allergy cat. Pretty much their only suggestions were very expensive RX brands, that I'm sure they get incentives for selling. When I called and spoke to Karen about the hydrolyzed protein food making them sick, the suggestion was to cook her own food. She seriously suggested expensive rabbit, but never called me back with options to giving them the proper nutrients to cook it.I'm not sure what reality these people live in. But it's one were they are willing to take advantage of vulnerable people in poverty to get their paychecks and they justify it as they are so kind and helpful. They only seem to be helpful if they can make the most money from it. If they can't, they have no solutions except death.Please, be cautious coming here. I'm not sure where I'll go because I've had issues with other vets doing similar, but I can't trust these people anymore after all of this.

We live in Parkersburg and our first time with Dr. Stephenson we were sold. We will never go to the local vets again with their ungodly prices and rude people. We will from now on make the trip to Charleston for Dr. Stephenson and the staff at Good Shepherd. They were that impressive. Thank you guys.

I had taken rescue cats that were sick to Good Shepherd. They were sponsored by DACR. I was treated horribly and made to wait a long time. I had a helper with me and she was appalled! I was treated like a welfare patient. I had to have DACR call them to find out why I was being treated so badly. It was the most humiliating experience I have ever been through, and I will never ever go back there again! I am now currently going to Dunbar animal hospital with my fur babies and they are wonderful with them!

My beautiful, healthy, and athletic German Shepherd dog did not survive the neglect she received while in their care for a spay procedure on October 19, 2023. There were no postoperative vital signs recorded. She bled to death per the necropsy report from the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center. We made the decision to have Pippi transferred to OSU, otherwise we would have no answers.When we arrived to pick her up afterher procedure she was stiff, cold and her mucus membranes were charcoal gray. Please, if you care about your beloved animals do not use this facility. Additionally, after such a horrific outcome the owner, the operating veterinarian, the staff and the office manager treated us terribly. We are devastated and to date we have not received any explanation from the facility.*You must leave one star for the review to post! Trust me they get ZERO stars!

I ask a lot of questions & they always help me & answer them thoroughly. I love this place & the people. They are our favorite small animal veterinary hospital for our dog & cat furbabies ❤️💙💜.

Best vet in the valley. A bit pricey, but staff is always amazing and thry know their stuff here, and are great with the animals. You can tell they care. If I had more money this would be the only place I bring my animals.

Horrible experience! Grooming was awful, the worst I have ever seen and did the literal opposite of what was told to them! And, the vet almost gave my dogs the wrong amount of vaccine because they weren’t filled correctly. I’d travel an hour for a vet before going here again. Look at the most recent reviews and you’ll see this isn’t an isolated event.

Had appointment for surgery scheduled. Drive over an hour to get there. Make sure everything is fine leave my pup. Double check that everything is good to go and when to expect a call to pick her up . Leave and drive an hour home. To sit and wait on call in the eve to come get her. I get home and have a voice mail they rescheduled her cause I guess they were to busy even though she had an appointment serval weeks out for surgery. Then goes on to tell me that the estimate I got for surgery was no good so 700$ appointment turned into a 1000$ appointment.. but they can’t do her today sorry come get your dog.. so I drove another hour or so back to get her . They gave her 2 vaccines that they didn’t ask me first .. and when I pick her up I’m billed over 200$ for something they had no permission to do..didn’t bring the money for anything because appointment was cancelled.. they don’t do billing.. being charged for something I didn’t say to do.. the women at the desk are super rude. And obviously careless… we will not be going back I’m disgusted!

Dr. Laura Slack performed a routine Spay on german shepherd dog, Pippi. Where said dog ended up bleeding to death. The building neglected to properly care for said animal and took hours before calling the owner. Dr. Slack has multiple complaints against them. All staff involved need fired. I’m sending love and prayers to Pippi’s family.

Don’t bring your dogs here if you want them back alive, they killed a dog during a routine procedure because they forgot to put the stitches in internally. The dog bled to death and was dead for four hours before staff took notice.

Found hurt wild bunny and called. They told me to bring it in and take a look. When I got there, they answered all my dumb questions and told me what they could do, and call me afterward . They did a quick sew and a shot. They didn't charge a penny!!!!!! That's compassion and love even for natures wildlife! 🙏 prayers for healing and release.2nd pic is of her 2 yrs later because she is not able to be released due to leg issues.

Dr. Sarah and her staff are exceptional! We had an urgent need for a complicated spay, and Dr. Sarah got us in quickly, and the surgery was a success. The follow-up care was wonderful. The 12 hour round trip was worth every minute💜

Such nice people! We took four cats in and the dr. took her time and was very informative. The tech was also kind, and our cats were handled with such care. I know this is routine for this practice, as I have been there before, but it truly is a comfort for pets and owners alike, EVERY. TIME.

I called Good Shepherd everyday to see if my dog was okay, but they lied to me. I would post pictures of her wound but it may be too graphic for public, please email me about this at puddlessir@gmail if you’d like to see the wound my dog sustained while in their care. They wouldn’t have a vet look at her until I came to pick her up. I was told they were “doing me a favor” by not charging me an office visit. I was still charged $150 for medication to treat the wound she sustained *under their care*. Also a staff member looked directly at me and told me they gave her a bath that morning, but she was caked in feces that needed soaked off. This business does not care about the well-being of your pets. Avoid this “veterinary hospital” at all costs.

I board my dog when we have to go out of town. He's well taken care of & gets a bath before I pick him up. Also can do nail trims and vaccinations when needed. Prices for boarding are fantastic!

I am beyond frustrated with this office. They have been behind for years and always have an excuse. I was there for a scheduled appointment at 9:30 and still hadn’t seen a vet by 11. I went out to inquire and was told Dr Currey often runs behind. If you’re behind at 9:30 am repeatedly, then you are the problem. The facility isn’t clean, the staff is hit or miss, and they’ve added a 3.75% charge to credit cards but the only notice I saw of that was in the exam room (so not time to come prepared with a check or debit card). It’s fine if you want to take a half day to get a vaccine for your dog, but if you want your time to be at all considered then don’t go here. I mentioned this to the owner years ago but clearly there has been zero change. We’ve been with this vet for almost a decade but finally switched after today.
