This hotel was one of the cleanest hotel I have stayed at. All the sheets were white and fresh and the carpet was clean- the bathroom was super clean as well. They keep their kitchen clean and also the breakfast area. It’s rare to find a hotel with a decent breakfast selection (most only have muffins and bread), but this one had EGGS AND SAUSAGE, oatmeal, toast, yogurt, fruit, orange juice! I was delighted and especially since it’s so affordable. The staff was super nice as well and they seem to enjoy working there, whomever owns this hotel I can tell treats their employees right. I will be staying again

EVERYTHING. Was not greeted to the hotel, only told that they were full up and if i didn't have a reservation, they couldn't help me. EXTREMELY rude staff, housekeeping never came during our 4 night stay even when repeatedly asked. All courtesy bottles of shampoo and conditioner were empty upon arrival, so obviously they didn't even check that amenities were stocked and NEW. No courtesy or communication. Staff smoked in front of the building all day instead of doing their job. Staff would mock customers and talk badly about them to other customers. Horrible place. The toilet wouldn't flush, and the phone jack was ripped from the wall. Bed had crumbs in it, and when we asked the staff for new sheets, they reassured us they would bring some but never did, then got upset with us for reminding them and calling customer service. Upon check out, I was ignored for a bit, then was asked rudely if I was checking out, and she grabbed my room key and said, "ok, you can go now!" She followed me out and started smoking right at the front door and loudly called us disgusting. When I confronted her, she yelled at me that she was on the phone and other obscenities. I have NEVER experienced such blatant disrespect and awful service from HOSPITALITY workers. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR ENERGY ON THIS POORLY RUN FACILITY.Safety: Sketchy staff hanging out with their friends in front of the building while smoking at all hours of the day.

This was a convenient and comfortable place to stay for my visit to Charleston. I had an exam at 730a on a Thursday in Charleston, so I booked a room to relax the night before and shorten my drive to the testing center. This location was very convenient for getting on the freeway and going to the Town Center Mall and Prometric. The free breakfast in the morning had plenty of options to fuel me for the day. My room was clean and comfortable. My only complaints were that only the front desk had ice and the gym was closed without notice when I booked. Otherwise, this is a very affordable option for a visit to Charleston with easy access to some of the city’s major attractions.

Overall poor experience as typical I guess for BW's. Starting with the check in and front desk staff that were so unfriendly and not welcoming. The setup where they sit in a chair on their computer and don't even look up at you is not inviting. The hotel is definitely in need of updating and repairs as elevators are out of service, ice machines have missing parts, several annoying smoke detectors beeping in the hallways. The one thing I can say good about it was that the rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower didn't drain so you ended up standing in water till it eventually drained later. The water pressure was horrible and the tub was super super slick so be careful. The breakfast food was ok although the 2 hot selections both had ham/pork products in them. The area was quite messy as seemed the front desk clerk was also the cook/cleaner/etc. This resulted in things like empty coffee and pancake mix which was mentioned but never refilled. The location is ok as close to the Clay Center and not too far from state capitol bldgs but not worth the subpar service and broken down everything.

The front desk lady was nice, but it was uncomfortably hot in the lobby. Only one of the 3 elevators worked. Upon entering our room on the 7th floor, I noticed the AC didn't work. Went to call the front desk, our phone didn't work. We went back downstairs and told the woman the issue. She said there was a thermostat on the wall by the bathroom for the AC. But there wasn't. Someone else told us to wait while they called maintenance to check on it. Mike came down and said everything is working fine. We went back up, and the fan was on, not the AC. But it was cooling down the room so we stayed. After looking around the room I saw stains and dried ketchup? On the floor. The wallpaper was peeling, there were what looked like dried boogers on the bathroom wall, paint chipped off doors, the elevator was all banged up and very small. There was also several strands of black hair on our shower wall. The tub didn't drain. Then the AC stopped working in the middle of the night. I woke up at 4am in a puddle of sweat. I tried to get it going again but it wouldn't. So I opened a window. Which is crazy, why are we able to open the windows on the 7th floor?!!!!!!! That didn't help at all. It was the most uncomfortable stay I've had at a Best Western. Not to mention, the alarm clock was set for 6:30am for no reason at all. Couldn't get it to go off, only the snooze option so I had to unplug it. The location is kinda sketchy as well. There is broken glass all through the parking lot and signs saying "we are not responsible for theft or damages of vehicles". It's an absolute mess here.

The elevator was out after we checked in. I had my elderly mother with me during the stay so 7 flights of stairs was not ideal. I asked the front desk clerk of they had rooms on a lower floor but she said they were full that night (you could still get rooms online). The floor in the room was wet for some reason. The hot water didn’t work in the shower. Trash hotel, stay anywhere else in Charleston!!!The hot water seems to be a common issue on the reviews I see. The owner is quick to apologize and say they’re taking the advice to heart but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I stand by my original statement 100%. Stay anywhere else but here, this place is horrible.

1 star the outside of the building is deceiving. Please read reviews people, The posts from the last 6 months to recent are true. 1 elevator, which I just read 5 months ago the were being worked on? So 5 months later and the 1 is still the only one in service, that's ridiculous. The photo Nic post is still true, it's disgusting and more like 1/4 of a elevator that is for the use of 8 to 9 floors of guests. The 7th floor that I stayed in the room has a whole cut out and filled in with wood putty from someone probably locking the keys inside. Soon as that was done the door should be replaced, and yes NO hot water. The rooms should not be the price that they are, Place should be shut down and definitely needs inspection. I'm betting the positive reviews are from people on the first few floors that they could have renovated that have no idea about the rest of the building. P.s. there has to be rehab centers around, always people walking around, searching for butt's of peoples cigarettes.

The rooms were clean and the staff was amazing! I didn't give 5 stars because the gym was closed and it's the reason we chose this hotel last minute. We had to use the gym at the hotel next door which was horrible. It had 3 poor machines and one set of 35 dumbbells. Again, not their fault not their gym.

Brand new lobby, 2nd floor, my room (new carpet, bathroom flooring, wardrobe armoire, dresser, tv)Quiet; very quiet building. This was in the central downtown region; most of the surroundings were pretty newly built or renovated structures.Very friendly desk ladies. Fast.Very delicious free breakfast: sausage patties, omelets, 2 types of toast, make-your-own Belgian waffles, (delicious & filling) bagels, pastries, 3 cold cereals, oatmeal. 4 juices in a dispenser.Big sign for a Thai restaurant across the alley from the parking lot. (rear of the building) The Charleston Town Center Mall is appx. 6 blocks away.Rooms: Brand new carpeting, bathroom floor tiles, sink, shower, etc.Brand new lobby carpeting, wallpaper, artwork, etc.Nearby activities: This hotel is in the central downtown region. Big sign for a Thai restaurant across the alley from the parking lot. (rear of the building) The Charleston Town Center Mall is appx. 6 blocks away.

I was extremely disappointed throughout my stay. This hotel doesn’t get cleaned well at all, it’s very old and broken down, and has some odd smells that the staff just keeps spraying air freshener to cover up. The breakfast was typical but I didn’t have any desire to eat any of it. 2 elevators were down. Multiple stalls in the public restroom were down. The room I stayed in had mysterious stains on the carpet, a broken bed and other damaged furniture, rust and what looked like bird feces throughout the bathroom, barely lukewarm shower water, cobwebs all around, dead stink bugs in the windows, and a very dirty heater/cooling system. $80~ for a room before fees and then when you arrive you have to pay $100 for incidentals so a room ends up being closer to $200. An absolute waste of money.

No hot water - therefore, no showers. Hot breakfast put away at 9 AM, after being told it was open until 10 AM - therefore no hot breakfast. Manager said we needed "an attitude adjustment" when we complained. In customer service, you diffuse conflict, you don't escalate it. You listen, you reflect back what you're hearing, you sympathize, you ask what you can do to make things right, you do whatever is reasonably needed not to get a review like this. You never ever take things personally, you don't say the manager is unavailable, you never insult the customer.Corporate needs to spend some time, money and training on this facility. Routine maintenance issues abound: elevator (1 of 3) out of service, towel hook fixture in our room fell out of the wall when we hung a wet towel, working elevators give the impression of well worn service elevators and extensive damage to Washington St side ground floor roof. As mentioned before, the boiler that delivers hot water to the rooms (according to several reviews) has been on the blink for several months.Rooms: No hot waterFood & drinks: Hot breakfast unavailable after 9 AMNoteworthy details: Rude front desk manager

It was a terrible experience. I am really ashamed to call it a hotel. The room was very dirty, the carpets had not been cleaned for years. There was a terrible smell in the room. The air conditioner could not be controlled in any way, it was very old. We could neither turn it off nor change the temperature. There was no hot water in the room. We ran the water for 10 minutes but the hot water never came. I guess they wanted to get rid of the cost of heating the water. The elevators were like a horror movie, they were dirty and seemed to break down at any moment. We wanted to go down to the lobby but it took us to an empty and unused floor. The staff at the reception was not interested in anything. We felt as if we were the guest working there. It is impossible to understand how Best Western approved this hotel.

The front desk service was very friendly. The downtown location near restaurants and shops within walking distance was greatly appreciated. Also conveniently close to the interstate. The public areas of the hotel are a bit dated but the rooms and beds are clean. The breakfast was superb! We liked it so much we stayed here again on our way back

The worst experience. Price is alluring for the savings, but management has no manners, will provide unclear process of reservations. We had late checkin for two rooms, and found they gave one room away and kept one for us (6 guests total which were listed and not allowed in our one room reservation). When I asked how did this happen, the manager stated “I don’t know I wasn’t here”. No sense of accountability or accommodations. But then again, you get what you paid for. Cheap prices, cheap services.

Terrible hotel experience. The woman at the front desk was very unhelpful and rude as can be when I tried getting my room. We ended up staying somewhere else because of it and they refused to refund our money. Having to call corporate because of it. Stay somewhere else if possible!!!!

I had a quick stopover heading from NC to Ohio, and reserved a room at this Best Western for the night. The good stuff: Man o man, was the staff kind, considerate, helpful, and over the top hospitable. A few examples: There was no luggage trolly in the lobby when we arrived. The desk attendant apologized, personally searched every floor for any that were in the halls, and failing finding any there, went to THE NEIGHBORING HOTEL to borrow one for our use. Completely over the top. When we got to our room, we got a call asking how the room was. We had an issue with hot water later, and the desk guy - same guy I think, went and personally reset the boiler and then checked back twenty minutes later to be sure we had hot water. He took two batteries out of his personal electronic device to replace the dead ones in our TV remote. The lady that was also at the desk was fast, efficient, and informative when we had questions about area restaurants and attractions. You never get this kind of service... ever. So, like seven stars for service. The room itself, was clean, smelled nice, and everything worked - until the batteries in the remote died, which, c'mon... that just happens. Oh, and it was QUIET! Pretty sure it's an older building that went up before the paper-thin walls era.The less than great stuff: The hotel shows some age and a little wear. Scuffed tables, work underway, work that still needs to be done. It is not the perfection you might expect from the Ritz, but then you aren't paying Ritz prices either. The neighborhood feels a little iffy. There are some unhoused folks within the several blocks around the hotel. However, at no point did I feel threatened, and the parking is well lit. No one the night stayed had any problems, and there was a convention in town that weekend, with lots of cars, carrying lots of expensive stuff, and no issues.Overall the stay was well worth the money. They are obviously working to make it a superior stay, and I am certain with this staff, they'll get there.

Worst hotel experience of my life, left completely disappointed. Josie at the front desk is unbelievably despicable. Don't stay here, save yourself and book somewhere else.

Hotel entrance needs better lighting. Clerk had a flat affect, wearing a winter coat sitting at the desk, never stood up to greet anyone, multiple boxes laying behind the counter. Elevators were half usable, super tiny, with scratches all over the inside of them. The door to our room we had to push hard to get it to open. The room windows were nasty with finger prints all over them. The room was definitely not cleaned to other hotel standards. Won't be staying here again, ever.

Older building but upgraded nicely. Entrance is level with automatic doors. Elevators are small but would accommodate a wheelchair plus 1. Did not ask about handicabable rooms. Our room was quite open, with generous door to bathroom. Toilet was very low, good for children or shorter folks. Bathroom would be fairly manageable with door open, no tight corners. Adequate room between beds and TV stand, etc. To use mobility devices.

Tried multiple times to get hot water. It was lukewarm at best. Rooms were clean but worn down. Last day of stay, the only working elevator was down. The management and fire marshall evacuated all guests to the lobby for safety except they didn't tell me or my guest. So we go to leave and the repairman told us the elevator was broken. We carried all the stuff down 7 floors to realize the entire hotel (except for us) was in the lobby.

The stars are for the service which was one of the best in decades of travel. Front desk recognized me by name, made me feel welcome and truly able to ask for anything that would make the stay better. Workers made way on the elevators which I’ve rarely if ever experienced. On the facilities themselves, obviously this is a hotel which is in process of some TLC. One of the 3 elevators out for renovations, and with low occupancy this time of year the hot water took some time to make it up to the 5th floor. All in all though a really excellent stay and walkable location and we will absolutely stay here again next time in town.

One of the best hotels in Charleston, WV, in my opinion. The staff was friendly upon checking in and was super quick getting us to our room. The room itself was spotless, the beds were made, and enough toiletries were given for two people. Unfortunately in the evening we discovered there was no hot water in our shower (hence the docked star). The sink was giving us hot water, but the shower, even after letting it run for a bit, was extremely cold. We tried again the next morning and to no avail, no hot water. At this point we decided to check out early and move to a different hotel since the weather was supposed to get chilly and we needed the hot water. The manager of the hotel was absolutely amazing in giving us a discount and only charging us for one night instead of the originally booked 4 nights for the inconvenience. I will definitely give this hotel another chance when I’m back in Charleston again simply because of the incredible hospitality and amazing rooms! I just hope there will be hot water next time!

Checked in our room and the room was clean 30 minutes into checking in a housekeeper walked right in while I was changing with not even knocking and they knew I was in here because they were cleaning on my floor, the pool was very dirty when we were coming back in from pool the elevators stopped working and I was on the 8th floor when I asked front desk she didn’t even apologize and said only floor that was available was 4th floor and if I had a lot of luggage. I did have a lot of luggage since I am 5 hours away from home and my family is here with me. Not once did she offer to help or accommodate. I am a executive Housekeeper as well for a Hilton I know how important it is for guest satisfaction and to not walk into peoples rooms without knocking and a Do not Distrub

Only one elevator working. No hot water. Fitness center and pool both closed. Front desk said that sometimes the hot water just doesn’t work. We were offered a $20 per night credit and were initially refused a refund because (according to the morning manager) “y’all used our lights and flushed our toilets and we gotta pay for that” and “you could have left when you saw the water wasn’t working but you chose to stay”. During the night there was a steady water leak down the bathroom wall. Ruined toiletries and clothes on bathroom counter. Booking site finally got us a refund for the second night of our stay.

The staff was nice, but they all know their side door lock is broken givinf access to anyone who wishes to enter, and that a man has been entering through there and following female guests around for weeks if not months. They took another report when he followed my 20 year old sister around the hotel and then outside where he stood and stared at her openly when she ran back inside to safety. They also ran out of towels and wash cloths twice in a 3 day stay and told us there was nothing they could do about it.Rooms smelled a bit musty, but were overall clean.Lack of guest safety and not being able to take showers is a big zero for me.

Hotel is dated.Elevator was out dated. No Hot Water. The room I stayed in had been updated.8th floor.Waited for Luke warm water for over 40minutes, it never got HOT.And the staff covered the fact and did all they could to convince me, after it ran for a while it would get hot.IT DID NOT.Beyond that the bed was comfortable, the room was fairly clean.I did have a visitor (Small Red Roach).NASTY..The breakfast was pretty good. The front desk Clerk was helpful in finding good places to eat..Great recommendations..And plenty of parking...Overall Stay was 3star.Staff 5 star.NOBL1

I spent 24 hours in a the ER of 2 hospitals when my husband was hurt in a coal mining accident. When they admitted him I was over 2 hours away from home and worn out. All I wanted was a hot shower and to lay down. I got a room at Best Western and guess what, NO hot water!! After talking to several guests that had been there all weekend, we found out they had no hot water either. Since my arthritis can't handle the cold water, I didn't get a shower! Didn't go back there the next night. The room was $129 for a room with cold water only. Wouldn't cut any on the price.
