Husband and I wanted to visit West Virginia! We came here the week before Valentine’s Day and wow. It was amazing. The people were so kind, and the place was so wonderful. You have your own grill, picnic table, then inside is gorgeous. You also have a back deck on the honeymoon cabin right by the water. Such a lovely place we got to see horses right behind our cabin and all the wonderful fish in the ponds. It was like a dream come true. My husband and I felt super excited the whole time and so relaxed. Such a beautiful place we will definitely be back!

I stayed one night in the log cabin motel and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was a great location to the gift shop and caverns tour, as well as the mini golf course out front. Across the parking lot was a swinging bench in front of the creek, very relaxing.Noteworthy details: The log cabin motel appeared to not have wheelchair access. For those mobility impaired, the bridges and stairs did have handrails, however all steps were not the same height.

We stayed over a cold January winter weekend in one of the cabins. The room was in excellent condition, the jacuzzi and fire place were in good working order, plenty warm, and the rooms were well cared for. We will definitely go again! Images are from the Smoke Hole cavern. We really liked the tour and was a nice thing to do on a freezing day.

The gift shop is the largest of WEST VIRGINIA logo apparel around. All kinds of casual wear and upscale garments. Lots of unique gift ideas, too. You must stop and take time to look and buy!

Their Smoke Hole Caverns tour is beautiful, funny, informative, and a lot of fun. Our tour guide was kind, humble, knowledgeable and invitational in teaching us about the cave. Paths were well lit, low ceilings etc. were pointed out to us before we walked under them, and everyone in our group had a blast, 10 month old through 60-something year old. They also gave military families free tours for Veterans Day.

The tour was very interesting ! Our young guide, Cheyenne, was fun, very friendly and knowledgeable about the caverns, showing us some of the best formations and sharing some of the cavern’s history. The caverns themselves were cool (in every sense of the term!) and we were able to see a lot of great formations and even feed some cave fish!!The gift shop was really big and had a lot of awesome finds (everything from food to magnets to shoes!!)!!We truly hope Cheyenne will complete her project of restoring her dream truck!!! She works hard and deserves it!!

We had a pleasant tour yesterday at the Smoke Hole Caverns as part of a group traveling with the Potomac Eagle Scenic Train ride. Our guide was Cheyenne, a nice young woman who seems to genuinely enjoy showing people the Smoke Hole Caverns. The tour was about one hour. I'd recommend athletic shoes or something with tread since the caverns have wet areas. There were 40+ people in our tour group and that is my only complaint - it was far too many people in one tour considering these caverns are fairly small compared to others like Luray or Mammoth. I'd suggest management limit groups to allow more "wiggle room" as we felt like sardines in a tin. Cheyenne really did an excellent job speaking loudly so everyone could hear and she was very knowledgeable! I don't fault her for the large group, she was simply providing guests with a nice tour. The cavern store items were pricey but that is to be expected. It's a beautiful shop (gorgeous log cabin build, lots of photo opportunities!) with many, many options from clothing, food, jewelry, shoes and plenty of options for kiddos. This was a nice experience for those visiting the area!

This was the coolest experience in West Virginia that I have had having visited the state at least 10 times. This place has a really nice gift shop as well as a place to sift through rocks, mining style and the whole experience overall is awesome. It was about 80° out when we went and it was only 55 in the caves. So if you're going there, bring a jacket. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and it was a great experience to take our child to. One thing to note is that the steps inside the cave to go from the first room to the second tend to be really steep and you should wear shoes and not sandals.

Best vacation spot for a quiet getaway! Rooms are exactly as pictured! Clean and comfy, staff are friendly, helpful and go above and beyond for guests. Kitchen is fully furnished with dinnerware, pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker. Grounds of resort are immaculate and surrounded by the beauty of the mountains! Gift shop is huge with something for everyone. Again, all staff are friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back!Rooms: We rented a sweetheart cabin that was perfect for 2 people wanting a quiet getaway. Cabin was clean and quaint with a front and back porch with beautiful views.Nearby activities: Smoke hole caverns with mini golf, gem mining and huge gift shop just a couple miles down the road.Walkability: Resort is a quaint little area with ponds, pool, playground, benches, fire pits and more that can be seen by walking through the resort.

We visited the caverns. Didn’t stay at the resort. If you’re in West Virginia, do visit the caverns with their amazing stalactite and stalagmite structures. The guide was really good and had some good background information to share.

Great gift shop! The cavern tour is awesome as well as the cavern! The guide had a fun way to describe the cavern. This cavern wasn't as big as other caverns that I have visited, but it was still fun to be there. They also have fish inside the caver and give you food to feed them. Tour takes 45 minutes.

Loved it! Smaller than I expected but still enjoyed it. Our guide was corny and gave some misinformation, but... whatever. The gift shop is amazing! They have lodging, which looked inviting, and and a little mini golf course. We'll probably come back down and stay here.

Well kept grounds, buildings and rooms. Staff was always polite, friendly and helpful. We stayed in the onsite motel, but there were other options such as individual cabins, tenting and etc., off site. Our room was clean, bright and cheerful, beds were comfortable and it was surprisingly quiet with minimal traffic noise. We took the cavern tour that was onsite. The front half of the cave was barren of formations and we were totally surprised in the newer discovered section, in which there is the stalactite room that is more than 250+ feet tall in some areas. Where you are greeted by thousands of mostly active formations, a great majority of what appears straw stalactites continue to grow. There are also many other variants of stalactite formations such as; stalagmites, column, flowstone, bacon, ribbon (note, the ribbon formation is supposed to be the worlds largest at an estimated six tons) and other named formations.Another, quirky feature in this cavern is what I would call a fishing hole. The small stream running through this cavern has been tapped into, to create a small pond which is lighted and trout introduced into it (we were told they are fed and apparently are switched out somewhat regularly). Having been to many Caverns throughout the United States, we thoroughly enjoyed this one.The Gift Shop is really large, clean, fresh and full of good products. We wandered about for looking, feeling, trying and buying stuff for more than an hour, maybe two. While a bit pricy (what a surprise 'Gift Shop') we were satisfied and happy with what we purchased. NOTE: The 'Bear Jam' is really, really good. All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Smoke Hole Caverns and enjoyed all the friendly chatter and different things it had to offer. Enjoy we did.Rooms: Very welcoming decor, clean, inviting and quiet too.

We travel there with our family and too Young grandchildren. We rented a cabin which was unbelievably nice did the cavern tours, kids did the gem mining and putt putt golf. Highlight was a catch-and-release trophy trout fishing. Gentleman who helped with the fishing major everyone got at least a fish. He was especially good with the grandkids. Each of them multiple trophy fish that were bigger than any trout I have ever caught and few people have ever caught definitely will be going

When learning that the Seneca Caverns were closed, my friend and I drove 15 minutes to find the Smoke Hole Caverns. We got lunch at the cafe and explored the giant gift shop while we waited for the next cavern tour. It was actually a really good tour and excellent story telling by the young man who led the tour. I liked that they allowed you to touch the caverns for the first portion as most places don't allow that. I can see this place being super busy in the summer because with it being off season when I went it was still busy.

The staff were not real bright. Messed up the ticket order for two of the three in our group. (Two individuals and one couple) We were standing at the ticket counter at the tour time of 3:30 but they didn't run the tour since it was just the 4 of us. Then, when the next tour time came around, they made us wait while several people who weren't on time used the bathroom. At the end of the tour, the guide practically asked for tips. After starting our tour late, they practically kicked us out of the gift shop minutes after it ended so they could close. The gift shop was amazing but the staff was impolite and the overall experience was negative.

I cannot rate the rooms. Our visit consisted of the gift shop, Cavern and mini golf. The gift shop is large as the sign promotes. We spent a while there and I still didn't see everything. Unfortunately Drifters Cafe was closed, which I had planned on being open as part of our trip for a late lunch after over a 2 hour drive. If we get an opportunity to visit again I hope the Cafe is open, also maybe take in the mining.Shout out to the young man who did the cavern tour (sorry I can't remember your name), thanks for a great tour!

We drove here to visit the caverns and for the kids..the gift shop. It was a nice tour and our guide Arielle (sp?) was very informative and had a great rapport with our inquisitive kids, answering all of their questions and entertaining their commentary. The gift shop has pretty much something for everyone and a snack bar for a quick bite.

These are some of the less naturally maintained caverns in the region, relatively short tour with lots of stairs, though if you have trouble withstairs I believe they can have you exit a different way than the big stairway if you need special accomodations. The employees are friendly and the gift shop has a very large selection of high quality apparel.

It was very nice. Loved the motel room and its country decor, exactly like the photos. A learning experience on the smoke hole cavern and had a wonderful tour guide. The room was very clean and stocked with all that is needed. The gift shop was really nice and very well decorated and has lots of nice country stuff to buy. The only thing that was an issue, is the fact that they have a sign that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. They have a small diner, but nothing was available to the public like advertised. I had asked about breakfast and was told it was not open. In the afternoon they made an announcement that lunch is ready, went over to the diner side( had not eaten yet) asked if it was open and she said no she made food for the store worker only. As a customer and staying at thier motel, It was unprofessional. Best to take the advertisment of the store sign inviting you to eat at thier dinner down. Gives mixed messages to a customer.

It was a great little day trip for me and my little boy. We got to tour the cavern with a wonderful tour guide Kinley. Kinley was very informative and interactive with everyone. I would say the storytelling was a favorite. It was a great time, beautiful day and I will definitely go back to do it again. Also the gift shop was amazing. There was something for everyone.Safety: Was constantly told and reminded about the stairs and handrails.Food & drinks: So many to choose from
