I have been coming to Big Bend Campground most of my life. We started coming in the early 90's and now as an adult I come here with my friends and family as well. I love how remote you really are, it's a great place to disconnect from everyday life. I cherish the memories made here, and I look forward to this trip every year.I grew up staying in the river loop and would advise that for anyone with kids, they will have a blast. Now I stay in the upper loop on the ridge and the views are immaculate.Tubing in the river is an amazing experience, and don't forget the fun on the rope swing! Tons of beautiful trails to casually walk. You'll catch fish here even if you've never held a pole, and enjoy a clean mountain river in the process. Shreve's store outside the campground has everything you could need if you run out or forget anything. Stop here for ice cream, and grab some local beers while you're at it!I couldn't say a bad word about Big Bend Campground if I tried. You won't regret staying here.

This happens to be among my preferred campgrounds in West Virginia. The campsites are nicely spaced apart, there's easy access to water and firewood, and the campground rangers were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Note: There's no cell reception unless you drive back approximately 20 minutes. There's complimentary parking at the entrance, as well as two free vehicle parking spots at your campsite.

Went camping here with my significant other And the best thing about it was there was no cell phone service and just nothing but raw nature all around And a river to boot. At the campground they have river loop sites because the river wraps around the campground and if you can get one that's right up against the river it's the best site because you can have access to the water's edge. Truly out in the middle of nowhere in southern West Virginia. Loved every minute that I was there.Nearby activities: The Potomac River wraps around the campground with it's rapids of crystal clear water. And because the campground is on a peninsula with the river around it you can put your canoe of kayak in and then take it out at almost the exact same spot! How convenient to float the river loop. Be sure to reserve one of the "river loop" campground sites so you have your own personal trail down to the water's edge.

We just love this campground. My husband loves the fishing and I love to catch up on my reading and crochet projects while we’re here. We miss Glen this year as our camp host but the new hosts Debbie and Gene are friendly and quite informative. It was a disappointment to find that not only the lot rate increased but also other rates as well.

Quite out of the way! Gorgeous natural landscape. Campground was quiet, friendly. Glenn the host was pleasant and helpful. NO CELL SERVICE, which could be good or bad depending on your perspective, but important to know (download maps to your phone in advance for offline use!) Dump station costs $7 extra, as does a bundle of firewood from the host (if he has any.) It’s a good 20-30 minute drive through the canyon to get there from the main road. A general store with limited hours exists partway into that drive (no other supplies anywhere around), and just past that the road goes to gravel for most of the rest of the way, so trailers and RVs will need to take it slower.

Very windy back road entrance into the park. Took about 40 minutes. Some people had large campers but I would not enjoy trying to tow on that drive. No cell service anywhere near the campgrounds. Probably an hour drive if you'd need to make a call. The campgrounds were far enough back from the road they felt private. Fire pit was there and a table/ pretty standard. The showers and bathrooms were relatively clean.Plenty of wildlife, a couple of deer were within ten feet of our tent at times. Beautiful scenery everywhere at the campground and near the river.Plenty of people catching trout nearby.

Great campsite tucked away in the Monongahela National Park. It sits on a peninsula that is surrounded by a bend in the South Branch of the Potomac River (hence the name). There are about a dozen River spots, all about 10-20 yards from the river's edge, and another couple dozen Hill spots that are no more than a 5 minute walk down to the water. The camp is at the end of a 10 mile road that is the only way in or out and is surrounded on all sides by the ridge connecting the High Knob and Bulls Head mountainsFlushing toilets and running water in the river campsite latrines and showers just up the hill. Firewood is available (and required) for $7/bundle.Tubing around the entire camp will take about an hour and has a few swimming holes to stop and enjoy.

Great camping trip! The park has beautiful views and great camp sites. The trout fishing was outstanding with the river close to most camp sites. Some work to clear dead trees had been done but the cut trees where left laying or leaning which was hazardous, the reason for 4 stars. Clean restrooms and shower house was a plus. A very nice camp ground!

We stumbled upon this as we were heading thru WV. It's a 9 mile drive off the main road and has absolutely no cell service. Perfect!!!The camp host wasn't around so we looked for a spot and he ended up finding us with our note we wrote and left on his table. The site was great. Deer walking beside us and everyone was friendly. When Glen (camp host) found us he gave us the run down of the park. Very friendly and easy going!!There are private bathrooms and very clean as are the showers.A trail follows the river all the way around and when the water is running there is tubing all around the camp. Put your tube in go around, cross the road and start over again. We will definitely be going back again!!!!Great time!!!

Great campground!! We tent camped in first come first serve site #19 July 2nd thru 5th. The site was clean and spacious (I had a 6 person tent, 2 room shower tent and 10x10 easy up canopy) with wooded area between each site. Shower house and restrooms were very clean and well kept. Glen the host was very nice and helpful. He made regular rounds checking on things. The river was great for tubing. We will definitely camp there again and have recommended to our friends!!

This whole area is really pretty. The creek is very nice and a high point of this campground. Camp host was a super nice guy. There's a lot of great spots to choose from here also. Also lots of wildlife running around.

Great campground. Very Remote almost like a backwoods camping feel. Absolutely no cell phone service. They have hot showers, flushing toilet and out houses. Showers and bathrooms are very clean and well-maintained. Campground’s are spacious. There is not a lot of in and out traffic. (perfect if you have little children, you don’t need to worry about them running in front of a car) Very quiet and relaxing. A great place to get in the south branch Potomac River and float down river. Also close to hiking trails like Seneca rock. Would recommend this place and would will be coming back.

The campground is rather nice. It is a little difficult to get to--the road is not paved and is super dusty. The river tubing is great, and the sites are well-maintained. The group sites are near a lovely field, and we played softball. The upper sites have more coverage than the lower sites, and so while you may be closer to the river, those sites tend to get hot.

Had a great week. Large camp sites. Clean Shower house and rest rooms. Loved rafting around Big Bend. Saw lots of wildlife including a small Black Bear cub. If you have Verizon as a cell service, you are in a total dead zone. 15 minutes drive to nearest store for ice, wifi, and limited camp supplies. Buy wood before you get to the campground. Their bundles are very small and quite pricy!

This place is very scenic. Great for tubing on the South Branch -- bring your own tubes of course. You can put in at the Shreve store and float down to Big Bend in a couple of hours. Many rabbits and deer around, ticks too so be careful if you bring pets.I would have given this place 5 starts but it seemed there was an issue with garbage collection at the time we stayed.

Great little campground to spend time. Plenty of space between sites and very accommodating staff of one (Glen). The river was a little low for good tubing but that is beyond control. Plenty of wildlife and lots of room to roam! Deer right behind our tent really made our trip.

This campground was great! A shower facility and nice new restrooms and drinking fountains were recently constructed. Almost all of the 9 mile road to the campground was newly paved. The campground managers delivered dry firewood for $7 a bundle. The nearest town is about 40 minutes away, so bring all the supplies you need with you. There is a place to buy ice about 4 miles away from the campground along the road, but it closes early. We brought our tubes and had a wonderful time on the river. It took us about an hour to ride around the "lightbulb" shaped river loop around the campground, we did it four times! Will definitely return to this campground!

Fantastic campground. Beautiful spot. There is a good number of non-reservable camping spots - perfect for our spontaneous Holiday Weekend camping trip. The campsites are lovely and most of them exceptionally well separated. We camp with a tent. The campground is at the end of 10 mile road, sometimes single lane and gravel in parts. There is a well-stocked country store - Shreve's - about half way along but that is all. Shreve's has WiFi but this is the only means of communicating with the outside world. in and around the campground (Presumably the camp host has a means for emergencies). There is running water, a couple of shower houses and plently of non flushable but reasonalbly clean potties (? septic tanks). There is a small hiking trail, recreational tubing (ie not white water) and really excellent live music - Blue Grass of course - at Shreve's on Saturday/Sundays

We totally loved this camp ground! It's remote and absolutely beautiful. Not too remote, however, that we were able to visit certain attractions easily (Seneca Rocks, etc.). The guy running the place was super friendly and he is there all of the time in case anyone needs anything. Also, the bathrooms were very clean. We would totally recommend this place, and actually plan on going back in the spring.

It is a well secluded area close to water for those who enjoy fishing and swimming. It has flushable toilets (full of the usual bugs, spiders, crickets, etc..) and showers which were located up the hill behind the guy running the place. He never even got out of his chair to check our info to see who we were. They had our reservation name on the campsite for all to see. How safe would you feel? Had it not been for another camper our children would have walked right into a den of Copperheads.

Absolutely one of my favorite places for car camping and river tubing. This spot is comfortable, clean, and usually very quiet at night thanks to the strict but reasonable camp manager. Sites are nicely separated by lots of trees, so you have a lot of privacy in the woods. Bring your own tube and float the u-bend all day, just a short walk from the exit point to the entry point on the river. Or you can walk up the road a ways and get in along smokehole canyon road for a longer float. There's a summer resident Bald Eagle living here too, so if you're lucky you might see them flying up the river. Lots of wood thrushes too! EE-oh-Lay! Awesome star gazing at night. Big bend has lit bathrooms, water, and shower facilities. RV parking, and firewood available. Reservations required for the top sites, but there are walk-up reservations available as well for about half the sites, and these are also fantastic. Pet friendly, and a shortish drive to hiking in the national forest. NO CELL SERVICE! but, you can drive 5-mi up the road to Shreves grocery for Wifi, beer, snacks, and Ice. And Firewood. Fire Rings for cooking. Great Trout and Bass fishing too - perfect for evening fly fishing, easy walking access to great spots via the 1-mi trail the circles the peninsula.

I camped here on a motorcycle trip through the area. Wow! What a great place. Fantastic camp hosts, awesome scenery, crystal clear water. This was a place I will definitely remember. The ride in on the dirt and gravel access road was challenging on a bike with a weeks worth of gear. The views from the road made it worth it, though. No cell coverage. Fish in the river and eagles overhead. Who could ask for more?

This is a great, quiet campground. Although none of the sites are directly on the river, its only a short little trail thru the woods. The tent pad was flat, the fir pit and picnic table in great condition. Only warning I would give. On site #1, the tent pad is directly under a tree and we had some birds that decided to poop on our tent. Other than that, it was great!

You're in the middle of nowhere and the attendant asks you for $8 per person, per night to park extra cars at the sites. I get that it's the posted policy, but that's an absurd rate. Also didn't allow me to park until 2:00 on Sunday, which is 1 hour beyond typical, resulting in a much more complicated kayak shuttle the next day. I had paid for the second night of camping without actually camping (due to 2 night minimum), so it wasn't like they needed extra time to prep the sites before the next person. Again, I get that these are the rules, but I also don't have to bring 14 paying campers to a campground that can't make very minor adjustments for things important to their campers. Poison ivy, a belittling speech from the camp attendent about quiet hours long before they started, and poorly kept sites rounded out the experience. Clean bathrooms.
