Stayed for two nights in mid-February (off season). The Lodge was absolutely spotless and so was my room. I really enjoy “off the path” places that are well taken care of. The views are spectacular, and there is easy access to a variety of hiking trails within the Park. The crew here are very friendly and hospitable. Their dedication is easily seen, from the well kept grounds, the clean interior, and friendly interactions. It’s easy to let things “slip” in the off season, but that wasn’t the case. Special shout out to the housekeeping staff! Thank you!

I will definitely be back. this place is very conveniently located if you are looking for a place to stay that is close to activities in both the state park and national park. The rooms were very clean and for the most part affordable. The restaurant was open until 8:00 p.m. so when we checked in we did not have to worry about going back out for dinner and wow what a dinner. I expected it to be expensive since it's a hotel but I was pleasantly surprised when I found that it was no more expensive than any other restaurant and the staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. on top of it all, the rooms give you a choice between forest fuse or gorge views.

We had a great stay here while visiting the New River Gorge National Park. Our room had such a beautiful balcony view of the gorge. We also saw hawks many times a day flying overhead. Our room was very clean and quiet since they have a quiet policy after 10pm. The room does not have a refrigerator, but I believe you can request one for an extra fee. The shower had decent water pressure, and again, the bathroom was very clean. The staff was welcoming and helpful. There is a restuarant with basic menu options. We had breakfast and dinner. The breakfast got the job done. They offered a free buffet with simple items like muffins, make your own waffles, pre-made omlettes, sausage and cereals. Dinner menu was fine. The food was average. The views in the dinning room are amazing. The lodge is beautiful with many places to sit and read, or just hang out. The gift shop is cute and has gifts and necessity items. It is very peaceful here. We took a short walk on the Lovers Lane trail to walk-off dinner. The park is beautiful. I would recommend Hawks Nest Lodge because it is close to many activities at the National Park and the property is so peaceful and relaxing.

This is a great spot, convenient to both state park activities and the national park. The customer service we experienced was excellent—everyone was friendly and welcoming. The rooms are small (two queen beds is a tight squeeze!) but well appointed. Our first room had an AC unit that couldn’t keep up with the unusually warm, humid weather—but we were quickly moved to another room that was more comfortable. I did find the bed very firm but that’s not unusual for hotels. The hotel layout is unusual and you can end up snaking quite a way to get back and forth to your room, but we found things very quiet in our room. We also enjoyed the pool (a bit chilly even on a warm late August day) and the kids loved the little splash pad. Bring towels down to the pool with you, there are none there.Breakfast was included, a small buffet—sausage, biscuits, gravy, eggs, a waffle maker that’s seen better days, and some cereal and muffins. We also ate dinner at the restaurant (great views of the gorge!). Service was excellent, especially Emily at dinner. Food was not remarkable overall but my kids found the fries the best of our recent trip!

Beautiful! Facility was clean, beds very comfortable and all the staff were extremely friendly. The restaurant happily worked up a custom dish of Stir Fry veggies on rice when I asked if they had anything Vegan. Cori was amazing taking care of me at the restaurant for a late lunch. Hiked the grounds a little the night before, almost missed dinner time as I was distracted by the beauty, but they stayed open late as folks kept streaming in well after closing time. The staff accommodated all customers and never rushed anyone. All and all a very relaxing and scenic place to stay & eat.Walkability: Many hiking trails to walk but some are not graded smooth nor should, all the trails I saw are very well marked. Building itself has elevators and very accessible.Noteworthy details: Birds love to catch the wind just outside the lodge/ restaurant windows.

This place is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the rooms were super comfortable. We had a great view from our room and the balcony was a big plus! I would definitely stay here again as the employees are super nice, too! We were there for only a weekend and the breakfast lady, Crystal, was so nice. By the last day, she knew exactly what I wanted (salsa and sour cream for my eggs 😁) Definitely recommend this place for anyone that wants a nice getaway with great views and lots of nature to explore!

My wife and I recently visited the New River Gorge National Park and stayed at the Hawks Nest State Park Lodge. We found the staff there to be very professional and courteous. The lodge and grounds were immaculate, a very well kept facility. The room was updated, nicely appointed and very clean. We stayed during the week and I have to say, it was the quietest hotel we have ever stayed at. The view of the New River/Gorge from our room, the lodge and the restaurant were nothing short of spectacular. The lodge restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food was great at a very reasonable price. We even hiked some trails right off the lodge grounds. The national park and visitors center is only a short drive away. If you are visiting the area or the national park we highly recommend.

Hawks nest Lodge in West Virginia is an absolutely beautiful lodge to stay at.The price point is on par with many other hotels in the area, but the canyon view rooms are the absolute best. The lodge and rooms are a little dated. No refrigerators in the rooms, but not a deal breaker. The restaurant at the lodge overlooks the canyon, so every breakfast ,lunch, and dinner the view is breath taking. We have been here twice, and will continue to come back here. It's quiet, out of the main stream of campers, kayakers, rafters etc. A gorgeous quiet place to stay and relax while visiting the New River/Gauley areas. If your looking for a calming, quiet, place this is it !

What a find! Extremely well maintained, well updated with mid century modern nostalgia galore, amazing staff, clean rooms, the pool is nice and has a splash pad, the restaurant is solid, the trails are so accessible, and the views all over are impressive to say the least. We’ll definitely be back with our two little ones.

Let me start off by staying that the lodge is beautiful. The views are incredible and the hotel looks stunning on both the inside and outside. But there are some major issues. It's almost impossible to get through to the front desk. When I checked in, the heat wasn't working right in our room. One of the vents constantly blew cold air and the blankets were so thin, we were freezing at night. The rooms are small unless you get a suite and there is very little closet space. It is a beautiful hotel and a beautiful park, but, unfortunately, not worth the cost.

I stayed on the 13th of June. The room was so clean and the view outside was beautiful. But I found something terrifying in the scenery outside. If the hotel sees the video picture,Please remove the bird house.

We stayed at Hawksnest lodge in early April 2023 right when the wind storm went through and knocked down a bunch of trees in the area. There was no power. Check in was an experience and I think many people decided to cancel their reservations. Luckily we were prepared to camp anyways. We had a ton of flash lights and even our Jetboil and ramen noodles for back up dinner. We were sad we couldn't try the Lodge's restaurant for dinner. We thought about leaving to find another hotel but were so tired from driving all day and visiting New River Gorge NP. There were no lights or air conditioning or heat. There was running water but limited hot water. It was luke warm and ran out after awhile.Staff at the front desk was doing their best to be accommodating. Power did eventually come on at 2AM. We got a discount on our room in the morning. We were able to take nice hot showers before check out. Also with no elevator we had to lug all our stuff up the stair wells in the dark with headlamps on. Our room wasn't close to any set of stairs either. At least the room view was amazing the even before it got dark. The room itself was nice. There was a plug in portable heater which was interesting. The screen door to the balcony was on the inside of the room instead of the outside which I've never seen before. It also did not slide very well. There were 2 nice chairs and a table on the balcony. The beds were nice and the bathroom was probably the nicest we had on the whole trip. It was sad that we had to rush to use the shower in the morning before we left. It was all glass door on like barn door sliders. Everything in the bathroom looked complete modern and new. It was a oddly warm night as the storm came through and we slept with the sliding glass door slightly cracked just to get some air movement in the room. It got really cold in the morning when the power kicked on and the AC started running. We did get complimentary breakfast in the morning which was great and tasted amazing. We weren't sure if it was going to happen because of the power issues. The staff working the breakfast were also super nice and the service was great. There was a waffle maker. They had sausage, egg, biscuits and gravy. Also had muffins and cereals and fruits and yogurt and juices. It was great ending to such a crazy night. Another disappointment was we never got to visit the gift shop. They were closed without power the day before and then the next day we had to hit the road an hour before they were set to open. We'll have to come back one day to buy our souvenirs.Rooms: Room was nice and clean. Bathroom very updated and modern. Sliding glass door with screen was a little weird and kept getting stuck. Overall a great room. Never got to try the TV as we had no power for the majority of our stay.Nearby activities: Lots of hikes. We did Cliffside Hike and it was an adventure for sure. Make sure you have the right shoes and clothing. It was more intense than we were expecting. Amazing hike though and would definitely do it again.Safety: We had no power and the scariest part was probably walking the stair wells in the dark with minimal lighting and our headlamps. When there is power I'm sure everything is fine and dandy.Walkability: There is an elevator and many ramps all over the place.Food & drinks: Breakfast at the restaurant was great. I think it's complimentary for first 2 guest in a room and there is a small charge for anyone extra. I think because we had no power the majority of our stay they were nice and didn't charge us for extra guests.Noteworthy details: Be aware of the store hours if you want to buy something. We checked-in late and wanted to get a hike in before it got dark. That along with the no power issues meant we couldn't purchase anything from the store. They also don't open super early so the next morning isn't much better.

I left this place extremely let down. We were super excited to stay here at hawks nest. We drove about 400 miles off course of our trip just to stay here because of the views offered. We got placed in one of the two rooms that face the parking lot “Forrest view” and was told that’s just how it is sorry. We got to sit at breakfast and listen to the others surrounding us talking about how beautiful the Forrest was from their rooms and how they want to stay again. I wish we could have had such an experience there. The rooms were very nice and homey and the night staff was very nice. But their page is very misleading. I paid almost $200 to look at a parking lot and have headlights keep us up at night while other paid the exact same to have a view of a life time. Our stay was no different than a stay at a holiday inn. Sadly we won’t be returning here after this experience

Stopped in on my way back to my campsite. Nice little walk down to the lovers leap overlook. You have to be careful on the steps as they are steep and are not in the greatest of shape. They are in the process of remodeling this area of the park so the trams were not running. I really wanted to experience riding it down to the bottom. They also have the option of a jet boat tour but I was there too late in the day.The lodge has a restaurant and other things that I didn’t have time to see. The gift shop was nice and I picked up some local made candy and added some postcards depicting the park for my collection. The bathrooms were really nice and they were air conditioned which was a bonus as the humidity was terrible.

To sum up Hawks Nest Lodge in a short sentence, I would use - "This place is awesome!" If you are interested in the New River Gorge area, this lodge/hotel is in the perfect location to provide a good base for exploring the entire area. The room was clean, comfortable, and had an excellent view of the river. Additionally, all of the staff members we interacted with were excellent and professional. Finally, the restaurant in the lodge is fantastic and provides excellent food for a great price and with a great view. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend you book a room here!

This is a beautiful recently updated but nostalgic type Lodge situated in the mountains above the river. The hallways are a little confusing to navigate at first, but easily learned. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are a good size and the view out our gorge view room is lovely. I would definitely come back. And it is located in a great spot if you are exploring the Gorge or rafting.

Awesome place to visit if you are planning to see West Virginia. Go for the boat ride. I told my wife I was not going to drive for 8 hours to go on a boat ride. I am glad I did. Currently the high point for me on this trip.Walkability: There are alot of steps. They are however broken up with large landings. There is an elevator once you get up to the lobby that can take you down to some walking paths.

VERY pleasantly surprised by this stay. The soaps and toiletries were local, everything was updated, beds were cozy, views were impeccable and the included breakfast was a nice surprise. Highly recommend staying here and can’t wait to come back!

This is an amazing place to say if you want to spend some time near the New River Gorge area. It is 15-20 mins away from all the major activities. The view from the room was great. The staff was really helpful and accomodating. Complementart breakfast was good. The gift shop has better quality products and reasonable,as compared to the other gift shops in the area. We also saw a family of deers on the property. Overall an amazing place to stay :)

Hawks Nest Lodge has been the relaxing stay we had been looking for. After a poor experience at a previous cabin, we stumbled on hawks nest lodge on our way home. Rather than cut the trip short we called and they just so happened to have a beautiful king room available for the last few days of our trip. This room is on the first floor with a private patio and charming courtyard. Since our room was on an end corner, we had a full wall of windows next to the bed with a forest view. This room is fully updated with new furniture, Wi-Fi, cable, a mini fridge and microwave. The staff here is genuinely the nicest people you will ever meet. There is free breakfast, an attached restaurant with the best cheese curds you’ll ever eat and the best little gift shop with everything you may need. Housekeeping comes by in the morning and gives you fresh towels and my favorite part is the gorgeous canyon views of the new river gorge. You’ll see deer, birds, hawks and beautiful scenery. Don’t overlook this exclusive lodge. We have already secured our reservation for October and we are sad to leave. All pictures taken were from our room except the last one which is from the restaurant in the lodge.

Update: still a great place to stay, and the recent remodel looks good. This is a nice little lodge that I enjoyed, but this maybe not be for everyone. Its in a scenic setting and the views from the rooms of the gorge are beautiful, providing you get a room with that view. The food from the restaurant was good, breakfast being free. My only complaint is the wi-fi, the signal wouldn't reach my room, but the dining area and lobby area had good signal. And cell service is spotty at best. But let's face it, we need to put down our devices and enjoy the beauty surrounding us anyways (lots and lots of waterfalls in this area).
