This place is by far our favorite bird store in the area! They take care of the birds well, their shop feels clean (especially compared to most bird shops). They have a great variety of birds, cages, and accessories to care for birds. The staff are knowledgeable, and helpful (although a bit gruff at times). Don’t let them put you off, though, as they truly understand their niche 😁 Great place for any and all things bird!

The new owner turned this place to hell. I would never buy a bird or even feed. It’s all over priced since the last owner past away. If you want to support an honest business, I won’t bring your business here

I was hoping the new owner would turn this store around for the better but I’m not sure they have what it takes to run this store at all. It’s really disappointing so far. Several times I have come to get food for my birds but there’s a sign on the door that says they’ll be back in an hour. But how do I know how long it’s been since you left. So I wait and wait and it’s hot out and I’ve got things I need to do but I need bird food so I wait a little longer but no one shows up for an hour. So I come back the next day and they’re closed. My bad I didn’t realize they weren’t open every day like most places. So I had to drive out to Portland for bird food. The next time I went there it was like ghost town. No one in sight. I walked around the store for awhile hoping someone would show up to the register so I could make a purchase but no luck. Anybody could have robbed the place. My next visit was fine but they didn’t have the food I needed. I asked the woman at the register if they planned to order the food I normally get and she just hollered out to the lady in the room behind her and that lady said “We’ll be sure to order more!” I have been trying to give them the benefit of a doubt. I really want to support them and keep this store going. So I have gone back to the store several times and they still don’t have the food I need and I end up having to travel further to get what I need. I don’t know what the problem is but I bummed out, disappointed and irritated.

Wide selection of toys and diy parts at a good price. Very clean store amd well kept happy feathered birds. I got both my parrots trimmed today and will definitely make this my regular go to. Loved the staff here.

checked the hours on the door at arrival they were closed during posted buisness hours. It was a 250 mile round trip for them to be closed during posted hours. Its very disappointing.

The ladies at the front on 8/10/23 at 2pm didn’t have good customer service, they seem annoyed and bothered with us. They answered with smart remarks ex: Do they bite? Answer: well, they are babies. Do they talk? Answer: well you have to teach them. Duh? They had attitude and spoke to us and if we were dumb when answering our questions. Which made us all very uncomfortable. We wanted to purchase a black cap bird and the price was non negotiable and they didn’t want to extend the payment plan to 2 months instead of 1. Which is sad because the bird my family wanted was playing with us the whole time so it seemed like a good match. Maybe another place will be more willing to accept payment and provide us with better service.

I was really surprised at the changes. The new owner is incredible !!! She's done amazing things with this place. I'm excited to bring them my African Grey for grooming. No more driving her to Portland.7/19/23. They did great with trimming my parrot's nails!

I purchased a blue quaker parrot, 3 months old and just weaned, as an addition to our flock of conures and parakeets just last week. We named him Kona. In just a week, Kona has learned to step up, do kisses and sing with the other birds when we have our daily "bird party." I loved the store and seeing all the birds there. The staff was helpful and let me take my time finding the "right" bird for our home. Kona is happy and adjusting well and loves to take naps snuggled on "dad's" chest under the covers. I highly recommend this store if you are a serious bird lover and can commit to owning a pet that is more like a kid for 30 year or more!Neal, Vancouver, Washington

We have consistently had a fantastic experience with Parrot Perch. They have helped look after our little bird when boarded - sometimes scheduled and sometimes during an emergency - and he always comes back to us well treated, healthy, and happy. We're lucky to have this store and its people in the area. The bird toys are also priced so much more reasonably than any chain or online store. We don't go anywhere else for anything our parrot needs.

Tried to go during listed business hours. Waited almost half an hour and nothing. Called, and no one answered. Tried again later in the day, but still nothing. Very disappointing.

Let me start off with saying, this place has so many supplies! If you own birds or are looking into owning them, you can get many high quality supplies at reasonable prices at Parrot Perch. They take in surrendered birds, as well as raising and hand feeding their own birds, which I think is great as it gives you options with species/age and they are helping by taking in the surrendered birds that were likely neglected or no longer had an available home. I got a Green Cheek Conure here and he is of excellent health, which I verified by taking him to the vet, so I can assure you you won’t have to worry about sick birds when you adopt/purchase from this store. The store is large, and lit nicely and they get shipments of supplies in quite often. I love how they have play areas out of the cages for their birds. I also love the bulk section of beads/wood blocks/bells etc. for making your own toys. The employees show appreciation and love toward all of the birds, and I really like how they let the birds out and give them attention throughout the day. In my experience the ladies here were very nice and helpful, however they did not greet me right away which I don’t mind but I know many people would. What matters most is that they seem to cherish the parrots. As for taking away one star on this review, my only criticism is that many of the cages were not clean. I do realize that there are few employees and many birds though, and birds are messy creatures. But I still wish their cages were cleaned more often, perhaps this store just needs more employees so they have more time to clean throughout the day. Also, I noticed the birds were on a seed diet. Many people don’t realize this isn’t healthy whatsoever and they can’t get all of the necessary nutrients through a seed diet as well as enough exercise to burn off the high calories and fat content of seeds/nuts. It’s possible they also give them vegetables and fruits to supplement, I just did not witness this. I’m at least glad they have high quality pellets in the store for customers to buy. Overall, this store is great and I’m very happy with my experience. I believe that the pros of this store outweigh the cons, and maybe eventually there will be no cons at all. I will be coming here often for supplies and to look at other birds. Thank you for reading! I hope this review helped

This store has a wide variety of toys and food/ treats. The staff have been nice and not at all like the bad reviews are saying about them. They were friendly and conversational and were knowledgeable about birds. I haven’t bought a bird from them but I’ve boarded my cockatiel her a couple times and have purchased toys and food.As for cleanliness, it is a bit messy around the bird cages but birds are always messy so this is expected at a store full of birds.Don’t listen to the bad reviews cause the people that wrote them are over dramatic and probably were there while the staff weren’t having good day.

They are great for boarding your birds while you are out of town but their cages are not cleaned and it’s lucky if the birds have any water. Paper in the bottom of the cage is changed when you walk in the door to pick up your pet.

Great selections of food, toys, and treats! Their wall of loose wood and wicker pieces are great - I love to piece some together on those metal, cap ended treat skewers, make your own toys or choose from a wide array in many sizes at great prices. Lovely birds on display, great staff. I haven't bought birds from them but they seem very friendly and well taken care of. I've pretty much thrown in the towel on other local pet stores for toys because they're overpriced and not well made. Meanwhile, Parrot Perch regularly exceeds expectations. Been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience.

My husband brought me here looking for a bird. I wish he didn’t as you could tell some of the birds had stories and it broke my heart to see them. They were well cared for in the store. What annoyed me was that they clearly have had a bad experience with ppl thinking it is a petting zoo and I feel it has jaded them. They made themselves very unavailable though when there was one particular bird I got a wee bond with. I couldn’t get any assistance. This made me sad as there were two birds I really liked. We have such a beautiful, large home where they would have been spoiled.

I love this store. They always have a good selection of toys and food. My severe stayed with them for a week while I was on vacation, and I expected him to hate it but he had a wonderful time. I love how much he bonded with them. And it makes me so happy whenever I stop by to be greeted by their birds. Highly recommend

Updated Review: What a difference an additional staff person can make! Because of my previous bad experiences with the staff at Parrot Perch, I haven't darkened their door since my initial review. But, I thought I'd give them another try, and stopped by today looking for appropriately sized toys for my Senegal. The new person was incredible friendly, respectful, and helpful. The old staff is still there, but now I can choose to not interact with them!

Best parrot store I've ever been to.We bought our Umbrella Cockatoo Bubbles here as well as multiple stands, toys, and food. This place is incredibly well managed and sells birds of all sorts giving birds who had a rough start in life a second chance. Prices are absolutely wonderful here bought our cockatoo with her large cage for $1600. Such a low price for an amazing well mannered and loved bird!I do suggest you visit and buy something for your parrot here to at the very least help with a business that helps these amazing animals live happy and healthy lives. Also if you are interested in buying a parrot please do talk with the employees and do your reasearch as parrots can live up to 80 years and are very messy and loud animals, and on average a parrot can be bought and surrendered up to every 2 years of their life. They are lifelong pets and I highly suggest if you want to buy a bird adopt one here as there are plenty parrots who need a lifelong home.Buying a parrot here will secure a relationship with the owners in which you can spend up to hours speaking about parrots in ways you can only truly do with parrot lovers. If you share a love of birds like these people do take some time out of your day to help a business and have some fun with the parrots there in the meantime.[Also I highly suggest taking your parrot here for nail trimmings rather than the bird hut in downtown Oregon though it is a great store I feel these employees do a better job for little to even occasionally no cost]

While the store is great and an amazing experience to see large birds of all sorts, the customer service was appalling. When my wife and I walked in, no one greeted us or said hello. It would be nice to feel welcome in such a colorful and fun place but the staff brought down the mood and we will definitely be going to the Bird Hut from now on until Parrot Perch teaches customer service etiquette to its staff.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: 2/10 We visited the store a total of 3 times. Nobody bothered to greet us. The signs around the store are rude under the guise of being informative, & the only person who treated us with respect while we were there was the young red-headed girl. She’s the reason there are points in this section at all. The first time we were there, when we informed the ill-kempt older man that we intended to adopt both of the white bellied caiques, he insisted that we probably couldn’t afford one of them, let alone both! Honestly, where did he find the nerve to make that assumption? The employees (aside from the red-headed girl who should go work at Bird Hut) had massive attitudes, and they get a kick out of being rude to potential customers. It makes them look like they’re power tripping about who is allowed to be in their super-exclusive bird-ownership club. These practices (combined with the way they respond to people online who have concerns, rather than taking advice and changing the way they interact with the birds or the public) are going to put them out of business.CLEANLINESS AND COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS: 2/10 The store looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a month. There was merchandise (including packages of food) that were dusty, some had fingerprints on them. It seems that they’re over-run with parrots, like they have too many to take proper care of them. They did their best to appear that they care about the deadly global pandemic by spraying down the countertop and having hand sanitizer available, but putting up signs that say “DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING YOU’RE NOT GOING TO BUY” is illogical to expect of potential customers, & irresponsible.CAGE AND CARE: 3/10 The cage that our birds were in was about ⅓ the size it should have been, suitable for parakeets and finches. The cages look like they’re cleaned 1x/week tops. After we paid for the birds, we came back a few days later to pick everything up, I noticed that the same toy debris was in the bottom of the cage as when we first purchased them days beforehand. We noticed a significant lack of fresh fruit/veggies, which is essential to a caique’s diet. The only fruit they had was dried. Dr. Lintner of the Avian Medical Center in Lake Oswego informed me that artificially dyed papaya (like what they had in their cage) is becoming increasingly unhealthy due to changing requirements on imported goods.HANDLING: 3/10 Our caiques are a year old, but it is obvious that they have not been handled/given any time outside of the cage. It doesn’t matter how “small” a parrot is, they need to stretch their wings! Especially when, as I mentioned before, the cage was much too small for them. It’s obvious that only the same large birds are out of the cage at any given time. When we returned to pick up our birds, the rude middle-aged woman attempting to catch them chased them around the cage for several minutes and terrorized them, rather than simply toweling them. They bit her several times, yet, they have never bitten me without being provoked (such as the removal of a blood feather). They clearly hated her.GROOMING: -10/10 The same woman took them into a back room and clipped their wings without our consent. We would have preferred them fully flighted, and now have to wait up to a year for their botched wing trim to grow back, because their feathers keep breaking due to being unprotected thanks to being clipped too short. We have taken them to two vets, Dr. Lintner for their primary exam, and later, an emergency visit at the St. Francis Animal Hospital, when we were unable to remove a broken blood feather ourselves. Both of these vets have admonished the butchered clip job, and Dr. Lintner also noted that their beaks were over-grown, and their toenails trimmed unevenly. She fixed those issues same-day, and recommended that we visit her for those procedures in the future. I am so tired of watching my birds’ wings bleed intermittently for months, just because some idiots with superiority complexes can’t take advice about proper bird ownership.Total: 0/50, DO NOT GO!

Great selection of parrot toys, cages, perches (of course), food and treats! Also a great place to board. I've brought my blue and gold here a couple times, on the recommendation of friends with a cockatoo, and she likes it. I imagine it's like going to camp. She doesn't get parrot exposure at home but she gets to hang out with other birds and really friendly bird people while we are gone.

Horrific and nasty place. Shame on them for having it so dirty and contaminated. It’s prone to bringing diseases with bugs flying around everywhere. A moderate amount of mess is expected from birds but this was a whole different level. Could barley see inside of the nursery how filthy it was. In addition, the birds seemed disturbed and a lot were shaking. It seemed like they wanted to be social but were fearful. The elder owners were not friendly and did not greet, only the young girl did. They were judgmental, cruel, and gossiping to themselves. Go to Bird Hut, the owner and employees care about their birds and clean often. Plus they are friendly and not judgmental.

Great selection of toys and accessories, great food option as well. Last few times I was there, their wasn't a great selection of birds. Cages kinda dirty. Could have just came in before they were cleaned and the season where babies are not being born yet. Overall it's a great shop tho

I really love Parrot Perch. I visited several times before I bought my bird. The employees were willing to tell me little things about the various birds but expected me to know some semblance of what breed I wanted. Now three years later I am still going back. I board my bird here when I go out of town and they all know my name and the name of my bird. They give me advice on toys and games to play with my bird and want to know that things are going well with us. I always walk around and talk to the other birds, some of which are priced high so may never leave. The workers love all of the birds in their care and are picky about who they are sold to. These birds get regular attention with kisses and spray showers and treats and hugs and appropriate food and are all willing to cuddle up with the workers.I don't use their traveling vet any more, as I had a health issue in the summer and the vet comes in November. I checked out a couple of other places and Parrot Perch is for me and my Quaker.

Mike the owner is wonderful. Terry who he has running the store, not so much. We will NEVER step foot in this store again. We had $150 worth of items to buy along with a parrot harness to exchange. The owner told us to come up and exchange the harness anytime (even without a receipt) which we did (with Terry about 4 months ago) because we buy a lot of stuff from them and we drive 90 mins from Salem. Terry got angry immediately and told us “there’s the door if you don’t like our exchange policy you can leave.” We tried talking to her but she escalated very quickly and told us “Mike doesn’t run the place.” She wouldn’t let us pay for getting our parrots’ nails clipped she was incessant on having us leave. We are quite saddened by Terry’s lack of customer service skills. She is obviously an angry lady with little ability to control her temper. We’ve been coming here for years and now we will only be frequenting The Bird Hut. If Terry is working; beware. She is great birds but not people.
