Today was my first visit to McLendon and I was so impressed with the service. I had a list that included things in 4 different departments and there was someone to walk me through each one to help me pick out the correct items. Plus I needed a 33" x 16" board that they found for me in the scrape pile. I'm a very happy customer and will never going wondering through those other stores again.

I arrived to return a Uhaul truck not really knowing where to go. The gals up front showed me the Uhaul desk but I went back outside real quick to get my rental paperwork. When I returned the same two nice ladies up front pointed me to a woman standing in front of the Uhaul desk which now had a "Closed" sign on it. But Uhaul wasn't closed on a Saturday and that sign wasn't there when I entered just a few moments earlier. When I approached the woman she made it clear I would not get any help from her or McLendon Hardware. I would need to go somewhere else. Instead of offering a solution, like "Come back when we open tomorrow and we'll fix it", she seemed intent on getting me to leave. I expressed that I was upset about both the pick-up and now the drop-off locations being changed at the last minute by Uhaul. She chose to focus on a colorful metaphor I used to describe Uhaul in my frustration. I may have been crude in the moment, but she decided that single offense was enough to ignore my feedback and get aggressive with me. I immediately turned away from the conversation to leave. She chose to follow me to the exit, antagonistically after the conversation had ended, so she could say "You need to leave" in front of some of the employees and customers. Her escalation was unnecessary and wildly inappropriate as I was clearly and calmly already departing the store at the time to get away from her. Her attempt to publicly shame me for dropping a single f-bomb was immature and made me feel unwelcome at McLendon Hardware. The immaturity proved infectious and I figured since I wasn't ever coming back I went ahead and dropped a second f-bomb to prove she couldn't control me. Not one to let others have the last word, she then goaded me even further. At that point I was already out the door and I refused to take her bait. At no point did she try to deescalate the situation, only antagonize it.Now we know we both could've behaved more appropriately. And now everyone reading this knows you have an aggressive employee who resorts to bullying and pursuing customers she doesn't want to help.

This store reminds me a mix of sears and Home Depot. It has some items you would need or find but also some few different things you wouldn’t find. Prices are a bit high. Plants are different and also high in price. The store was kind of dark. My daughter and I wereLooking for light bulbs and the garden center

I'm so thankful for them. They had the product I needed in store when no one else did, and when I called to check on whether it was indeed in stock before I headed over there, they offered to hold it for me for a couple of hours. Kind people.

I always try McLendons first before the bigger chains. McLendons is local and their stores are well stocked with a broad range of tools/garden center/paint/lumber/lighting/grilling/building/cleaning items. They have a house set up in the middle of the store to show off finishes and options and my 9 year old is always amazed by its existence. Their seasonal plant section has downsized with the colder temps, but they have some gems and more rare plants that show up at times.I considered marking them down a star as it seems like I hear, "we used to carry that" a lot when I go in (An AC to DC power adapter, molding hooks, light bulb) but I'm going to chalk it up to COVID related and other supply chain weirdness. Their employees are friendly and helpful.There is a bunny that lives in the garden section outdoors!If anyone from McLendon's in Tacoma reads this - please rescue your Fiddle Leaf Fig. It hurts me to see it struggling with 4 or five leaves. 😪

Carry items you won't find at big box stores such as larger bolts. Also carry tools made by companies they don't such as Stihl chainsaws. O ly negative I can think of is they are priced a bit higher!

Parking is usually available, but sometimes awkward to get in and out due to the stores location in relation to the nearby light. The store is always clean, has a wonderful selection and the staff is almost always friendly. The prices are reasonable depending on what you're shopping for.

Amazing size and great selection! People to help you everywhere and great displays all over the place. The only complaint I have is the bathroom stall has a huge gap between wall pieces and it doesn't lend much privacy. :)

Always stop at McLendon's when we're passing through Tacoma, especially in Spring! It gives me a chance to fill our greenhouse and snag a new pot or two. Visions of planting are dancing in my head. Can't wait! Thanks McLendon Hardware

They deserve zero stars, but not an option. Forced to give one star.Worst customer service of anywhere.I have been let down several times, and dread having to go here.This store used to be the best local hardware store, and then they were bought out by a company that doesn't care about the customer.I tried to purchase a gas weed whacker, and the 3 people helping me disappeared and never came back.The man in that department claims to be a pro in that stuff, but didn't want to answer my legitimate questions. He seemed bothered by my questions.I try to avoid this place at all cost, and dread when the 3 other choices of stores don't have what I need.Over priced, understaffed, and full of Chinese products.

I purposefully drove past both Lowe’s and Home Depot to come to McLendon’s because I knew I needed some customer service. I’m happy to say, I was not disappointed! A lovely gentlemen helped me right away, listened patiently as I explained my project, cut the boards I needed, and quickly helped me gather the other supplies! Great customer service!

Had the worst experience possible in the paint department today. No one, including the manager, had any idea what they were doing. Complete opposite at Puyallup location, which are always helpful and knowledgeable.

McClendon’s employees go above and beyond to provide solutions to any home project needs. Debbie and Michel took the time to understand my electrical problem, walk through potential issues, and test equipment to make sure I had the correct tools to address it. I truly have never had a better customer service experience and can’t recommend enough McClendon’s!

Very nice staff and their selection/variety of product is superior to Home Depot and lowes in my opinion. I had a very hard time finding torch head accessories for Coleman propane tanks anywhere (due to the increase in shoplifters) but Mclendons had them. I had a small issue with a pricing issue on one item that was improperly advertised, but they had no issue honoring the price that was advertised above the product. I will come here for any of my department store shopping going forward.

Sadly, despite they rather large selection of nursery items and plants, their staff will most likely not have any knowledge about them.I've been told twice by different garden staff that they "wouldn't dare carry milkweed because of it's invasiveness," when in world of reality milkweed is not only a NATIVE plant to this very same area (three different types actually), but that they are ENDANGERED and even LEGALLY ENCOURAGED TO PLANT AND THRIVE by Federal Statutes due to how crucial they are!!!!What was even more mind-blowing is how one of the staff members seemed alarmed that I would even suggest otherwise 🤦

Great place to shop. My kid's favorite because of the demo house. Their 3rd trip out in 3 months and they asked to go. A very good hardware store. Knowledgeable people. Prices a little high, but you got to pay a bit if you want good stores around.

When this McLendon's opened, all of the staff was fantastic. Now, after the last two visits to the store I have to say "friendliness" wasn't very apparent. The clerk behind the register was very nice both times, but trying to ask for help anywhere in the store made me feel as tho I was invading their private time to ask ridiculous questions. And several of their plants looked as tho they hadn't been watered for several days. And I don't mean plants on sale. Don't think I will be going there again unless they have a stupendous sale.

This store hired an autistic person and when the gentleman ate a chocolate bar he had yet to pay for, they fired him and refuse to allow him to pay for the chocolate bar or rectify the situation. He has apologized profusely and begged for his job back. The job gave him self confidence, independence and work experience to become a self sufficient adult while navigating his daily activities with disabilities. This store will never receive another penny of my hard earned money and I am ashamed that these managers live in our community they claim to "serve". What a disgrace of a company to treat someone like this.

I had a conundrum of a plumbing issue and have had several contractors tell me a variety of different things that required opening up the wall. I was positive that was not actually the case. the excellent staff at McLendon's was able to point me to exactly what I needed and just moments. Highly recommended. Beyond that the checkout lady was extremely helpful and assisting me with my guilty pleasures. Wonderful people!

I love walking around this store - the layout, the products, the cool house inside it... But finding anyone to assist me was difficult and the help I finally got didn't seem to be in the customer service mood. It wasn't busy. The cashier was nice though. Then, got home and realized one of my purchases was already open and missing some pieces.
