Edit: Now they're doing receipt checks. Glad they can hire more wannabe cops but not pay there actual workers a loving wage 🤮The new checkout procedure is horrible. They have gotten rid of associates bagging your groceries. Now the cashiers must scan all your items and then bag which slows down the process dramatically. You can choose between waiting and having to watch the cashier try to get out of their stand (having to squeeze between the stand and the customers in the neighboring line) or you can bag your own groceries. It's horrible for everyone. I should not be paying Kroger prices and having to bag my own groceries. If I wanted to bag my own groceries, I would go to WinCo. Whatever corporate consultant they hired to "streamline" and cut costs is ruining the shopping experience. Kroger has made shopping unbearable and horrible for employees.

As has become typical in 2024: overpriced and understaffed. One checkout station open with 6-7 people waiting in line. They don't have baggers anymore, so you have to bag your own groceries at checkout. No carts at the entrance, but tons in the parking lot. Police checking receipts at the door. Corporate profits breaking records. Used to be my favorite grocery store, but if I'm going to pay premium prices, I might as well go somewhere with premium service.

Decades long -- Fred's customer. Word to the wise -- if you're doing grocery pickup, do NOT order produce. Just got home, unpacked the car. Red onion -- the ONE thing I needed tonight -- was totally rotted through. No one who has ever purchased an onion could have looked at/chosen/touched it and not known it was bad. So, yeah. Back to Wally World. At least they don't sell you rotten produce..

This review is not so much about the grocery store itself - the store is fine. But their parking lot needs to be patrolled better. We haven't been in a while but have had some unpleasant encounters in the parking lot from people just acting a bit off to people aggressively panhandling and demanding we buy them gas.

Homeless camps are starting to fill up the corners of the parking lot and trash is everywhere. The cart area is always empty so you have to make sure to grab a cart from the parking lot before you come in. They don’t ever have more than 2-3 cashiers no matter how busy they are and the cashiers never have baggers so you have to bag your own groceries. The new addition of security guards checking receipts at the door just adds to how ghetto this store has become. Lastly I’ve never had a trip here where they had everything I needed in stock. This store is the new 11th st safeway, go literally anywhere else.

The Kroger Fred Meyer chain of grocery/department stores is similar to the growing national corporate footprint such as Target. However, the difference in quality of the items they sell can be seen in things like clothing, housewares, or produce. I'm not going to start a compare and contrast since this is individual preference. The one sticky point for me is the customer service.I'm not painting everyone with the same brush, but there are many employees that shouldn't be working in retail. As a regular customer, I'm often asking them to fix items that don't ring correctly, but many of the staff are just plain rude. As if I'm asking for something special. Someone needs to give them the word that they need to recognize that their "system" or the people that enter pricing need to take ownership, correct the error. Then on top of it, treat people like they are valued as a customer. After working in grocery and retail sales for 30-years I know how to keep customers happy and continuing to shop at a business. Today, I get the impression that the management does little training or just doesn't care how their employees treat the customer. This behavior is ridiculous and it's on top of increased cost of goods that we all pay especially at the grocery store. As of today, every time I leave Fred Meyer I think wow the management could care less that I'm spending money at their store.

Fred meyers is an amazing place to shop just do not buy gaming systems here. I bought the wrong version of the new series of Xbox as a gift and I cannot exchange it because all sales are final. I really wish that was explained before hand but I should have asked more questions. Never buying anything but groceries and gas here again.

As I was leaving with a full cart, the security guard singled me out and demanded a receipt. Nobody else. Just me. Big security guard with gun. I said “she put it in one of the bags” He tried to make me find it but I told him to go ahead. I told him hurry up, I have places to go (lunch break on a Tuesday). He was clearly enjoying holding me up so I stated, “I’m an attorney. Please articulate your reasonable suspicion that I have stolen. Tell me why you are detaining me.” He pointed to a sign saying he can check my receipt (which I already told him to do). I repeated, “why are you detaining me?” Even though I had already told him twice to find & check my receipt, he asked “do I have permission to check your receipt.” I said, “do whatever you want, just explain your reasonable suspicion that I’m a thief.” He gave a 1-second, obviously pretextual glance at my receipt and then handed to me. I was ‘free’ now. I snatched it and left. I hear him over my shoulder saying something like, “try snatching a receipt out of my hand again!” Like a grade school bully! I do have video but will not post it publicly unless it happens again.

I like the store for the most part. The aisles are a decent width. There are a few things that are nonsensical. One of them is when coming in the side of the store nearest the fuel island, the check out is right there and there's no designated place to get to the rest of the store so customers coming in usually walk the wrong way through the checkout and it's just a mess. Another thing is the paper bags. They have no handles. There's no reason for them to be paper. Use plastic like every other store and call them "reusable". Paper sucks in the rain and I've had employees bag up the groceries and the bags rip when they lift them up to put them in the cart. The employees are always nice. The men's restroom always smells like it's burning and the left faucet doesn't work. The rest of the store is good except the produce section which is WAY too small. There's always 15+ people in there smacking carts into each other. If that department is constantly full of people then expand the department. Having more room wouldn't be stressful or put anyone out of a job and I'd probably be in there longer to put more stuff in the cart. That leads to higher profit. Be like Safeway and have the produce be an open area where we customers don't feel like cattle. The greeting card section is large.

One grocery store greeter on December 15 2023 discriminated against me a long time nearly 50 year customer (I went there when that particular store was first opened) now disabled with mobility problems ,refusing me to bring my small step thru bike that I had shopped for years with in that store.Edit I contacted Kroger about this under ADA issues and on December 20,2023 happily I got a phone call from them from a representative ,this issue has been corrected and they will allow me to bring my ebike into the grocery department again as a long time customer. Now I am very pleased about them caring for disabled customers

They treat everybody who touches anything with any type of higher value as if they are potential thrives or something. I understa.f that there is a lot of retail theft going on but some customers actually have money to.pirchace things. They never let me use a fitting room.

Hold your grocery lists and brace yourselves, because the Fredmayer in Tacoma is a rollercoaster of shopping shenanigans! Now, imagine a day so packed, it felt like a canned soup convention gone wild. Shoppers jockeying for cereal like it was the last box on Earth, carts engaging in epic bumper car battles – a grocery store battleground that tested even the most patient souls.Yet, in a twist stranger than fiction, the very next day, the store resembled a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie. Shelves bereft of produce, echoing aisles, and lonely shopping carts – as if the grocery gods decided to hit pause on the supermarket saga. A retail riddle that left shoppers both perplexed and produce-less.Enter the Checkstand Champion – a cashier so swift, items seemed to teleport from cart to bag in record time. Shoppers marveled, yet secretly fumed, realizing their carefully planned smartphone distractions were obsolete in the face of such checkout velocity.Adding to the spectacle, the Free Sample Fanatic, a person with a knack for transforming the aisles into a culinary carnival, treating each sample station like a personal buffet. A shopping journey through Fredmayer, where crowds clash, the store transforms overnight, checkouts become racecourses, and free samples turn into a gourmet sideshow. Enter at your own risk, and remember – the grocery aisle isn't for the faint of heart!

We but l bought about 5 burger patties that looked all good. Watched the guy nicely put individual pieces of paper between each one. When I unwrapped then the guy rolled them up like a burrito. Wish they would teach him that a burger patty DOESN'T get rolled up

My neighborhood grocery store always have fresh produce and hi quality meat selections. Bakery isn't the best, but it's ok for a grocery store. Prices are fair

Store is rife with racism and discrimination. Came in with my kids and had every store employee and security follow my entire family through the store. Disgusting..racist store with nasty hateful staff members.

Fred Meyer? Fred Liar!I called ahead to ask if they sold X-acto knives. They said they did. I wasted a lot of time looking for it. Finally downloaded the app and looked up what I wanted in the store location and it said it wasn’t available for pickup.Do they not have computers they can look their stock up on before giving a fast yes?WinCo is further from my house but I think I will start shopping there for most of my groceries

Customer service is horrible, two people working at the counter I waited with my kids for 20 mins to be helped while one person behind the counter did nothing but be on his phone as soon as I'm helped he decides to put his phone down to help the person standing behind me. This is not the first time this has happened they are making me want to be a Safeway fan again.

This used to be such a nice store. Now there are crackheads and tweekers everywhere and the security is THE WORST SECURITY ON THE PLANET. Instead of doing something about the trash all over the store, they follow normal people around and act like they're sneaky. CANNOT BE SNEAKY WHEN YOU'RE FAT, LOUD AND STUPID.
